Who's the best hitter in each spot in the lineup

Recommended Posts

Guest Vern Gagne

Baseball Tonight was talking about who the best hitters where at each spot in the batting order.

For example

Lead off-Ichiro

2nd-Derek Jeter

3rd-Barry Bonds

I still to need to look at who bats where to make my final choices.

Where does Todd Helton hit? He'd have to be considered right up there. I think Posada in the #9 spot would also be very likely.

1. Should be patient to take a walk, good singles hitter, and a base stealing threat

ICHIRO

2. Patient hitter to allow lead-off to steal, good bat control and unselfish to hit to left side allowing lead-off to advance to third from second, good base runner and good speed, most intelligent hitter on the team

DEREK JETER

3. Total package player, hitting, speed, rbi, power, patience

BARRY BONDS

4. Power hitting rbi machine, runner on second, two out, he gets that rbi

MANNY RAMIREZ

5. Good hitter who can be depended on to avoid double play ball, and scary enough to avoid pitching around #4

LARRY WALKER

6. Dependable hitter who can finish off the damage done by the top of the order, has some pop in his bat, but mostly a just a strong hitter

BERNIE WILLIAMS

7. - 9. If you get a hit from this section of the lineup, it's a bonus, this is where you put the players who are there for defence. No excellent 7-9 hitters come to mind.

1) Ichiro (He should walk more though)

2) Jeter, as much as I hate to say it. (great hitter with very good speed who doesn't K much)

3) Nomar or Bonds, to me Bonds ahould be batting fourth. (totally different aproaches and differnet styles but both are great hitters.

4) Manny or Giambi (both are patient and huge RBI guys)

5) Walker

6) Shea Hillenbrand (I can't think of any other #6 hitters)

7) dunno

8) dunno

9) Rey Sanchez was batting .318 when he got hurt.
