Guest Cerebus The Aardvark Report post Posted August 7, 2002 Fooz, please, read this. Main Entry: rev·o·lu·tion·ize Pronunciation: -sh&-"nIz Function: verb Inflected Form(s): -ized; -iz·ing Date: 1797 transitive senses 1 : to overthrow the established government of 2 : to imbue with revolutionary doctrines 3 : to change fundamentally or completely intransitive senses : to engage in revolution - rev·o·lu·tion·iz·er noun Read that third definition again. Green Day did nothing to revolutionize punk music. They did not fundamentally change (or completely change) anything about punk music. The end.
Guest mister foozel Report post Posted August 7, 2002 The Rancid and Offspring comment came from the fact that their success impacted punk rock in a tangible if unmeaningful way. Green Day's success didn't really. Green Day became big, but it didn't change what punk bands did. The punk scene pretty much stayed the same, with Green Day being among a few bands temporarily outcast. The same bands continued to play the same sound. You're right that Green Day doesn't really play punk any more. They went in a more straight forward direction. I don't want to argue about the import of that because I'm tired of messing up this thread with you, and you probably are as well. Nevertheless my point about Blink is: you said Green Day became the biggest punk band in the world and really got punk noticed. Now, Blink is doing that. Would you call Blink revolutionary. I wouldn't. What it boils down to is this, Green Day was in the right place at the right time, and became a mainstream fad. Doesn't make them revolutionary, bud. You can make your lecture about opinions (And you certainly took the high road with your comments about "Ace of Spades"), but some opinions are deserving of ridicule. Yours is one of them. Talk to any punk or read any music review that wasn't written to sell albums. Your opinion is a joke to a lot of people. I'm not going to pretend otherwise. But don't take it personally there pal. You seem like an alright guy. And unlike a lot of other people, I actually admire your stubborn persistence. If you care to respond, you can have the last word. But I'm going to try and let this thread get back to its original post-whoring purpose. Just one last question, though. don't give me any more bullshit, i've had just about as much as i can take with you bud What the hell was that? A threat or a poem? fine, they didn't revolutionize punk rock, but i forget now what i really meant at the time i first said that this is getting way too technical and all i wanna do is listen to my favorite fucking music and thats the end of it as for taking the high road with ace of spades, that never happened, i STILL think its the biggest bunch of crap i think I HAVE EVER HEARD i never said im denouncing what i think about ace of spades HAIL NO but i AM denouncing green day revolutionizing punk rock, because this is just getting stupid now as of the end of the sentence i will no longer reply to this thread off-topic unless i feel compelled enough to do so http://www.newgrounds.com oh and to edit this and reply to your question: i dunno what it was, if someone said that to me on the internet i think i'd be scared.... no not really. Guest What? Report post Posted August 10, 2002 Ok, you don't like Ace of Spades Do you have to say "OH MY GOD!! THAT IS THE GAYEST SONG I HAVE EVER HEARD!!! LOL!!!" to get your point across? No Could you have just said "Ace of Spades isn't a good song to me" and then left it at that? Sure, why not? Ah well, it's over with now, and I apologize for being a jackass. and we all know Green Day can't hold a torch to Gray Matter or "Do or Die" Dropkick Murphy's. (Just got that CD, and after listening to it and then "Sing Loud, Sing Proud," I realized the error of my ways), but Green Day is still a good band. "Dookie" is still the only album I own that I can stand listening to all the way through.

Guest Kotzenjunge Report post Posted August 14, 2002 Right now, and these are constantly subject to change because my favorites in regards to music are constantly changing. So, instead of my five favorite tracks, I present the five that I enjoy most at this very moment in time, as well as the moments that encompass the time it will take to post this message. In other words, stuff I'm listening to will dominate. Favorite Five Tracks at and up to the time that this is submitted: The Avalanches - "Since I Left You" No Doubt - "Hella Good" Daft Punk - "Superheroes" Sophie Ellis Bextor - "Move this Mountain" Scarface - "My Block" Danke schon fur deiner Zeit. (Thank you very much for your time.) As for my favorite tracks(read: songs) *~EVER~*, here they are: The Beatles - "Hey Jude" Radiohead - "Exit Music(for a film)" Um... (staring at CDs piled up atop his speakers)... Hmm, lemee see here... Ooh! Here's one that's way up there! John Williams and the London Symphony Orchestra - "Imperial March" Okay, that was good, now I have to think of two more. Crap, this is hard. Ergh. Would I really put two Beatles songs in my top five? Sure, why not? Who could it harm? Not me, that's for bloody well sure. Aha! Almost forgot! Beastie Boys - "Sabotage" Damn, that is a kickass song. Makes me want to hurt people. Fun for all. Now, a fifth. Ah! I never get tired of this! Darude - "Sandstorm" I don't go for artistic merit, just what I like, ladies and germs. In the end, isn't that what we all base "art" on, after all? Let's see how many people notice my saying "In the end" and "after all" in the same sentence, two phrases that mean essentially the same thing in one sentence. Music critics like good music, right? Ever hear a critic say, "Well, I hated this album/song/movie/show/porno a lot, but damn, what brilliance!" Hells no! Maybe I should make this an extended post, perhaps one to start a thread. Good idea, me. I'll do that. When I wake up. This has been another stream-of-consciousness post. Fo Sheez, Kotzenjunge

Guest evenflowDDT Report post Posted August 30, 2002 First off, ummm... I HATE lists like this because I forget what my favorite songs are unless I hear them again. Yes, I'm serious when I say that... Second off, even though I don't like 'em as much as I used to, Green Day is my favorite band, so I'll catch up on the Green Day argument and comment on them later, but I will say first that they didn't revolutionize anything. They just made a lot of really enjoyable songs. Thirdly, I really don't like to cuss, but fuck anyone for dissing anyone else's tastes. As someone who enjoys both "art" and "shit" (more of the latter), I'm sick of people hating on other people for what they listen to. Hate the band, not the fan (I know someone will use this against me next time I try and get in an argument in this folder, but being the passive type when has THAT ever happened?) Now then, onto my five favorite tracks of all time (ummm... I don't think this is in any particular order): 1) Duran Duran - Rio 2) Green Day - When I Come Around 3) Smashing Pumpkins - Tonight, Tonight 4) Nirvana - Pennyroyal Tea 5) Elvis Costello - Alison Fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck! It's not fair! I have so many other favorite songs... "Police and Thieves", "Something", "Nowhere Man", "Creep", "Take On Me", "Dancing with Myself", "Karma Chameleon", "Put Your Lights On", "Freebird", "Every Monday", "Where is my Mind", "King of Rock", "Shooting Star" (from DDR), "Neverending Story Dance Mix" (from DDR)... and those are just the ones I can remember right now! ONLY 5! No fair!

That's good because I actually forgot one of my ALL TIME favs because I hadn't heard it again until this morning... hahaha. Now then... Top 5 Favorite Tracks of... uhhh... Right Now? (when in doubt, copy godthedog ): 1) Foo Fighters - Everlong 2) Elvis Costello - Satellite 3) Blackalicious - Sky is Falling 4) New Edition - Candy Girl 5) Broken Bones - Wealth Rules I've really been digging and listening to these songs a LOT as of late. Well, not "Everlong", but I left it off the other list and remembered how much I love it (especially the acoustic version) when I heard it again this morning.
