Guest Trivia247 Report post Posted July 4, 2002 What am I the only one old enough to remember the Killer bees ???? Im 23 geez your making me feel old people
Guest TheScholarlyLion Report post Posted July 4, 2002 I remember when they'd trade off while doing full armdrags and twists and Gorilla would say "A little sting action by the Bees!" That was funny for some reason. I don't know why someone doesn't steal that nifty double sunset flip spot they used to do. One Bee would try to sunset flip a guy, but he'd grab the ropes, so the other Bee would sunset flip the heel and get the pin. They used the masks for this, natch, but who cares about the legal man these days? It was cool and I'd like to see it again. That spot reminds me of a non-title match from Challenge in 87 where they beat the Harts that way. Man, the Harts lost a lot of non-title matches. They were totally booked as pussies, revisionist history about them being dominant heels who got face pops be damned.
Guest MillenniumMan831 Report post Posted July 5, 2002 It was cool to see them and The Stallions win the 20-Man Match at Sur Series 1987. Man, Jesse was pissed at the bees for the mask bit. And it always seemed like it was Brunzell getting his ass kicked and B Brian Blair had to bail him out. 1986-87 Rougeuas were also notorious for winning matches via the illegal man as well. Guest TheHulkster Report post Posted July 5, 2002 The Bees and the Rougeaus were tied for being my least favorite team in the 80's. I enjoyed Brunzell's matches as a jobber, post-1988. He always tried to have a great match even though it was a given that he was going to job, and that I can respect. My favorite Team from that era were the Can Ams, then when Zenk left, Strike Force. I was always a big Chico mark.
Guest dreamer420 Report post Posted July 5, 2002 i really don't remember much about the bees except their big win at the 1987 surivior series. i loved the faces cheating to win back then because it was ahead of it time. sadly i have more memories of jim brunzell being a superstars jobber. Guest Slingshot Suplex Report post Posted July 5, 2002 I never really liked Brunzell..after the dropkick,I wrote him off as basically worthless.Brian Blair was a decent but unspectacular wrestler
Guest Goodear Report post Posted July 5, 2002 I hardly remember the Bees at all, which is odd cause I remember just about everything from that era. What I do remember is the mask switching. But I was curious if anyone remembers their finisher (other than the mask swap)?
Guest Trivia247 Report post Posted July 5, 2002 If you go by TNM7..... Brunzell's Dropkick was his personal finisher.. And Blair had a Scorpion Deathlock......IF you go by TNM7 their double team finisher I think is that by the ropes Double Sunset flip one does the flip the guy when he doesn't go down,. the other one, Usually in the Mask and Flips over and drops him with the second Sunset flip. Guest Daredevil21 Report post Posted July 6, 2002 As a kid, I enjoyed watching the Bees in action, but looking back at it, they weren't anything really special. They were one of the top teams in the mid-80's, but by the end of their WWF run, they had been reduced to a JTTS tag team, and were eventually split up, which resulted in Blair leaving the company. Despite how their WWF run ended, they had some great matches before that. That spot reminds me of a non-title match from Challenge in 87 where they beat the Harts that way. Man, the Harts lost a lot of non-title matches. They were totally booked as pussies, revisionist history about them being dominant heels who got face pops be damned. Ah, that was one of only 12,930 matches that the Harts and Bees had from 1985-1987, with most of them being really good. Before the Harts won the titles, they dropped dozens of matches to the Bees, as well as other teams. That's why it was such a shock when they won the titles, because up until that point, they had been seen as a joke. They would lose many non-title matches, but they still had a solid title run, and managed to give the rub to several young teams at the same time. It was cool to see them and The Stallions win the 20-Man Match at Sur Series 1987. Man, Jesse was pissed at the bees for the mask bit. And it always seemed like it was Brunzell getting his ass kicked and B Brian Blair had to bail him out. 1986-87 Rougeuas were also notorious for winning matches via the illegal man as well. Yeah it was pretty interesting to see those two teams win the match. The Stallions were a young pair, and many predicted big things for them following the match, while the Bees were on the slow fall from success that they had seen in 85/86, so all in all, it was a bit surprising to see those two particular teams win such a big match. That's still one of my favorite Survivor Series matches of all time. While the whole mask dealie was cool, I always thought it was wierd that the referee didn't just assume that the Bees were cheating when they had the masks on. At any rate, it was cool to see a face team win matches with heel tendancies. Well, of course the Rougeaus won several matches with the illegal man tactic, as did most of the heel teams of the day. Most of the regular teams of the day dressed a like, and for whatever reason, the announcers and referees would always have problems telling them apart, even when they didn't look a like. sadly i have more memories of jim brunzell being a superstars jobber. As do I. I got into wrestling in 1990, and by time I was watching WWF TV, Brunzell was all over the place as a glorified jobber. Kind of wierd how he stuck around so long after the Bees were split up, considering the fact that Blair left after the split. Can't say it was a wise move for Brunzell, but it was work, and he always did a good job, even though he knew he was jobbing, like someone said earlier in the thread. I hardly remember the Bees at all, which is odd cause I remember just about everything from that era. What I do remember is the mask switching. But I was curious if anyone remembers their finisher (other than the mask swap)? While they won most of their matches with the mask switch routine, they usually used pushover/schoolboy roll-up, where one of them would get behind an opponent, and the other one would knock them down with a dropkick, clothesline, or something else of that effect, which would lead to a roll-up pin. More times than not, they won with the mask switch, which IMO, didn't do much for them, since it made it seemed like they needed to cheat to win. Werent The Bees Heels At 1 Time You're probably referring to the Lumberjack match between Ted Dibiase and Hulk Hogan on the Hulkamania 4 tape, where two masked men assisted Dibiase mid-match. Although the announcers said it was the Bees, it didn't really look like them. They were wearing masks during the whole match, which was unlike them, and since they freaked out when Hogan tried to take the masks off of them, I somewhat doubt that it was them. Perhaps it was the Conquistadors. Who knows, and really, who cares? If it was the Bees, it happened near the end of their run as a team, where the fans didn't give a damn about them any longer, so a heel turn probably wouldn't have done much for them. Guest dreamer420 Report post Posted July 7, 2002 i've heard that before too. maybe from you daredevil. two masked wrestlers attacked hogan but it never really lead to anything so it was probably just masked jobbers that vince sent out.
