Guest Kinetic Report post Posted July 5, 2002 Just curious. 2002 has seemed like a fairly weak year thus far, but with a few excellent albums slipping through the cracks. Here's what I have: Wilco- Yankee Hotel Foxtrot ...Trail of Dead- Source Tags and Codes The Mountain Goats- All Hail West Texas And that's about it. I'll be getting the new Flaming Lips for sure, but nothing else has really struck me. Maybe the new Breeders, but I haven't heard anything good about that. I think Belle and Sebastian released a soundtrack album, as did Badly Drawn Boy but I haven't checked it out yet. Eh.
Guest Incandenza Report post Posted July 5, 2002 Okay. Here goes, in no particular order: N.E.R.D. - In Search Of... Wilco - Yankee Hotel Foxtrot Tom Waits - Alice Tom Waits - Blood Money Death Cab for Cutie - The Stability EP Elvis Costello - When I Was Cruel Meshell Ndegeocello - Cookie: The Anthropological Mixtape They Might Be Giants - No! Sonic Youth - Murray Street Weezer - Maladroit Eels - Souljacker Badly Drawn Boy - About a Boy Belle & Sebastian - Storytelling ...And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead - Source Tags & Codes Local H - Here Comes the Zoo Andrew W.K. - I Get Wet Uncle Tupelo - 89/93: An Anthology Super Furry Animals - Rings Around the World Guided By Voices - Universal Truths and Cycles [EDIT]With the exception of the Local H and Weezer discs--which, sadly, suck--and the B & S one--which, in spite of owning for almost two weeks, I have yet to remove from its shrink wrapping--all of the albums listed range from the merely okay to excellent.[/EDIT] A disappointing lack of hip-hop so far. However, I am dangerously close to buying that new Blackalicious disc. I have yet to pick up the latest Elf Power, also. Oh yeah, here are a couple of 2002 releases I bought, only to sell to a CD Warehouse 'cuz I didn't like them: Nappy Roots - Watermelon, Chicken & Gritz Phantom Planet - The Guest
Guest treble charged Report post Posted July 5, 2002 And You Will Know Us By The Trail of Dead - Source Tags and Codes Fubar - The Album Our Lady Peace - Gravity I think that's all of 'em.

Guest Kinetic Report post Posted July 5, 2002 I forgot about Clinic's Walking With Thee, which is just okay.
Guest Kinetic Report post Posted July 5, 2002 Oh, and Super Furry Animals. That one didn't stay in heavy rotation long, either. If I had to pick my album of the year right now, it'd go to Trail of Dead. Hands down.
Guest Incandenza Report post Posted July 5, 2002 Two things: 1) I forgot a disc, and I've modified my list to include it, and 2) Kinetic, where the hell is Elvis Costello on your list?
Guest Kinetic Report post Posted July 5, 2002 Feh. I'm in no hurry to get the new Costello. If it's there and I've got some cash to blow, fine. But I've got so much stuff that I really want to get that it'd just be wasteful to spend money on something just to be a completist. Same with anything new Dylan releases. Unless I'm assured it's a masterpiece, I'm not going to ignore his last twenty years of substandard output just because it's Bob f'n Dylan.
Guest CoreyLazarus416 Report post Posted July 5, 2002 Nothing this year in the world of metal interests me so far...I think Shadows Fall's next LP is released either in August or October, one of those 2, and you bet your fucking nads I'm getting it ASAP (since Somber Eyes To The Sky and Of One Blood are in the top 50 best metal albums ever, as far as my list goes). Guest LooseCannon Report post Posted July 5, 2002 A friend of mine somehow got a pre-release version of the new Flaming Lips, so I've heard it, though I'm sure they'll change the song order to make the Yoshimi vs Pink Robots story make more sense. It's pretty good. Not as good as Soft Bulletin, which I consider the best album of the 90's, but still very good. Though I'd say Source Tags and Codes is still this year's best album so far. I haven't had the chance to get a whole lot of new albums due to money problems, but I bought Source Tags, the new GBV, and the new clinic. I'll probably get the new Sonic Youth sometime soon. And I'll probably break down and get the latest Bad Religion too.

I'm willing to bet that Eminem blows everything else out of the water, overall. Trail of Dead is pulling a respectable number, though, and that is encouraging.
