Sports Radio critique on PPV

The LAW sports show is RIPPING the show a new one right now in Toronto. Callers are RIPPING the show. Now I agree with some of the stuff they are talking about. I really want to see what you guys think about their critique. The insiders make a point about the opening segment with the NWO on the ppv might have killed the crowd. They hated the fact that they came in with that interview because they were joking around. My take is that the wwf was being cautious.

I mean seriously the wwf knew damn well the NWO might have got cheers. They played off that with Hall/Nash/Hogan saying they were the good guys. People thought they could have done better with the promo with some catchphrases and whatnot. They thought they were portrayed as wusses. Again, I think these guys are wrong. Doing that will make them tweeners. I just think the crowd sucked. Imagine if that was in MSG these guys would have got cheers(and actually they DID especially Hogan before he actually spoke). The promo in my opinion was meant to play on the ANTICIPATED face pop. Maybe I'm completely off, but this is how this looked to me.

However, I do got a problem because I bet they cut a much better one on RAW which is a problem because people paid for this. You have to look at it like this. If the NWO came out and only attacked Austin it might have got pops simply because it was the NWO. They think maybe this caused the entire roster to dumb down their performances. What do you guys think about their critique.

Well, the APA winning was a surprise to everyone. Personally, I don't want to see these guys in the tag title match at Mania. These guys can't have a solid 10 minute match much less having the main tag team division match at the biggest show. Obviously it might lead to Outsiders vs. APA down the line.

RVD/GoldDust got ripped as well. Mostly because they thought it was a style clash. Ditto for Regal/Edge. Actually, one insider made a good point that Edge going into Mania with the I-C title guaranteed heat for the championship match since he's from Toronto. Personally, I got no damn clue what the wwf is doing here. I like Edge, but I think he's missing something and don't think putting the I-C title on him just to pop the Toronto crowd is good.

RVD straight up should be walking out with the strap next month. Insiders feel it might have something to do with Vince not creating RVD and thus not willing to obviously push him when he's obviously favoured by the fans(and yeah he does actually do DIFFERENT moves from time to time maybe the other top stars can learn something).

Rock/Taker kind of sucked with all that overbooking. Oh, the insiders made a strong point. UT AGAIN blows off the invaders by stating that Flair shouldn't be worrying about the NWO, but should be worrying about him. Flashbacks to DDP in 2000?

What the hell were Vince and Flair doing in that match? Some callers felt maybe it was going to be Flair/Rock vs. Taker/Vince at Mania. PLEASE NO!!!!!!!

Triple H/Angle. I was surprised to see Triple H lose. The insiders say that Steph got the biggest pop all night when she got clotheslined and was probably the highlight of the night. Personally, I think Trips was rusty and I would be hesitant to put him in the last match at WrestleMania because if the NWO at least bring drama the crowd will be bored by the time Jericho/HHH main event. If the match comes in the middle of the show Trips winning the title would be anti-climatic.

The insiders didn't even consider Jericho/Angle as the main event for Mania. They blew it off that the wwf will milk this thing until Trips wins it back. Personally, I think the wwf might go with Jericho/Angle. You just made Trips out to be weak in that match. I think Trips losing his spot would actually give him more face heat and if they want to turn him heel(which I think IS OBVIOUSLY needed) it will have more impact.

Another thing that makes me think Jericho may defend against Angle was the way Jim Ross was talking about him in the main. He wasn't really downplaying how he won the belts and kept on saying Jericho was creating his legend in the wwf. Well, the insiders say that they were shocked at the pop that Austin DIDN'T get(more reason to believe the crowd just sucked although some matches DID suck).

I think for insiders they acted like spoiled smarks personally. As I always say you can't judge the STORYLINES on a ppv until after RAW and SmackDown of the week. Maybe after RAW, but you can judge the match quality. I will say the wwf did some bad ppv purchasing pr because they obviously built the show to head into RAW.

They commented on the NWO probably needed to attack in more matches especially since it was their initial appearance. Personally, I was shocked they only interferred in one match. I think people forget how freaking stale the NWO got interferring in every damn match. I think it actually makes sense for them to only attack the big stars because you got to remember how in the world are 3 older guys going to take down the damn wwf. They have to do it with some kind of help from Vince's power and slowly adding people.

One problem they saw and I agree with was where was Rock when Austin was getting beat up. Again, the wwf can't give everything one time. It brought up the logic gap that the NWO would attack people and the guys in the back never came out to help.

Anyways, the show got pretty much thumbs down from everyone who saw it. Personally, I think people would have been SHOCKED as hell if the wwf NEVER promoted the NWO coming in the wwf in the first place. If no one knew these guys were coming back and they showed up out of the blue tonight the show wouldn't have got ripped a new one. The expectations were too high. Fans didn't know what the NWO was when it formed at Bash at the Beach. You can't expect the same kind of response.

The McMahon didn't create RVD thing has always been my thory.

RVD is the one guy that got over without needing ANYTHING from the WWF.

Yeah, McMahon isn't big on wrestlers who weren't "home-grown talent". Which is the biggest pile of shit ever. If you're over, push them.

I think the NWO would have best been used by making a surprise appearance on Smackdown instead of hyping the hell out of them and charging people 30 bucks to see them debut. This way, the fans can create their own buzz instead of the WWF hyperbole machine making people feel like this was a must buy event (like that Vengeance PPV I will never forgive them for). It seemed like the WWF was better when there was a feeling that anything can happen on any given night, now they like to hype and promote everything. It's hard to do this and satsify people everytime.

If Hall, Nash and Hogan shows up out of the blue(like you said), I believe the response would've been awesome. Well, at least from a non-Milwaukee crowd.

If the WWF built-up this show without the nWo promos, Vince never mentioning the nWo, and the WWF dropping small hints on their arrival (the No Way Out promo sign lining up to spell NWO), this PPV would'v had some redeeming value.

Another option would've had Vince bringing the nWo back at the Rumble (straying from WM 18, and staying away from a small PPV in No Way Out) and focusing on keeping them a 3-man group until the April PPV.
