Guest El Psycho Diablo Posted July 5, 2002 Report Posted July 5, 2002 Allright. I've only seen this guy work a few times (Super J-cup 94, 95..5-20-1997 match v Tajiri) and I have to say I'm impressed. Any 'essential' matches I just have to have? -Shiro
Guest wolverine Posted July 5, 2002 Report Posted July 5, 2002 My three favorite Ohtani matches: *Jushin Liger vs. Shinjiro Ohtani 3/17/96 *Ultimo Dragon vs. Shinjiro Ohtani 8/4/96 (J-Crown Semis) *Jushin Liger vs. Shinjiro Ohtani 2/9/97
Guest Black Tiger Posted July 5, 2002 Report Posted July 5, 2002 Ohtani vs Tajiri (1/4/97) Ohtani vs El Samauri (8/10/97) Ohtani vs Sakuraba (Sky Diving J)
Guest TheSoleSurvivor Posted July 5, 2002 Report Posted July 5, 2002 I'll throw in 3/20/96 Othani vs. Benoit for the WCW CW title, and the 1/21/96 Othani vs. Samurai (NOT your typical juniors match).
Guest TheDames7 Posted July 5, 2002 Report Posted July 5, 2002 I've only seen the guy work a few times but the first time I saw him was at Starrcade '95 with Eddy Guerrero and that match was pretty damn good, so try that one as well. Dames
Guest RickyChosyu Posted July 6, 2002 Report Posted July 6, 2002 Well, the Junior Tag Leag '94 has two Ohtani/Benoit Vs. Guererro/Sasuke matches on it that are a must for any Junior fan. Also, I have an Ohtani/Benoit match from what I believe is the Super Jr. '95 tourni finals on a comp and I have to say it is pretty choice. Pretty much everything else I've seen of him worth recomending has already been listed. Definately some awesome stuff from Shinjiro, that's for sure.
Guest wolverine Posted July 6, 2002 Report Posted July 6, 2002 I didn't think the '95 BOSJ finals were that good. Both men (Benoit & Ohtani) had worked earlier in the night, so they didn't reach what they could have.
Guest BigTim2002 Posted July 6, 2002 Report Posted July 6, 2002 I just watched him in the finals of some tournament from 2001 (It's not coming to me now for some reason), and he beat a guy with basically one arm...it was bueno. Still shows he can go. But in my book, the Ohtani/Benoit Super J Cup 95 final takes the cake.
Guest RickyChosyu Posted July 6, 2002 Report Posted July 6, 2002 I didn't think the '95 BOSJ finals were that good. Both men (Benoit & Ohtani) had worked earlier in the night, so they didn't reach what they could have. I'd say that's a proper evaluation of it. Too much mat-work that didn't build right, and the pacing urked me, too. It was nothing bad, but when it comes to those two, anything short of amazing is bound to come off as dissapointing.
Guest wolverine Posted July 6, 2002 Report Posted July 6, 2002 "But in my book, the Ohtani/Benoit Super J Cup 95 final takes the cake." BOSJ final. Super J Cup '95 final was Liger-Gedo.
Guest Trivia247 Posted July 7, 2002 Report Posted July 7, 2002 Fondest memory...and Im gonna put it up when I do your favorite Shinjiro moment... When Shinjiro at J Cup 94 took Super Delfin's leg from him and Abused it in every single leg Submission hold known to MAN for 10 minutes solid He isn't some colorful dressed wrestler or some monster movie Japanese remake wrestler.. Just one of the guys that could kick your ass using your own Leg
Guest Black Tiger Posted July 7, 2002 Report Posted July 7, 2002 The 1995 J-Cup match between Ohtani and Massaki Mochizuki, it was nothing flashy it was just them kicking the shit out of each other, it did a lot of Mochizuki's career. Ohtani is the Chris Benoit of Japan, he can drag a good match out of almost anybody and he works really stiff.
Guest wolverine Posted July 7, 2002 Report Posted July 7, 2002 Aside from Liger, Ohtani was the fucking man in NJ juniors as far as I'm concerned.
Guest Black Tiger Posted July 7, 2002 Report Posted July 7, 2002 Has anyone seen any of his recent work? It sucked that he left but he had to consider his career direction and in NJ in 2001 it was going nowhere.
