Who would be YOUR choice for writing team?

Yeah, the WWE writing team sure as hell seems to not be looked at all that great by just about anyone, from all of the smarks on the net, to even the casual fans. So in your view, who would be the perfect choice for a writing team? I really don't know who would be great specific choices, but here are some basic thoughts of me...

 

1) First off, NO ACTIVE ON SCREEN CHARACTERS should be on the writing team. This includes wrestlers, owners, family, or whoever the hell else. The only exception to this that I can think of is Paul Heyman, because well, I just like the guy. :D

 

2) Secondly, whoever is on the staff MUST have a knowledge of Pro. Wrestling, the history, past angles/gimmicks/happenings/etc... If you look at the way WWE lists their job openings, they say NO WHERE IN IT that you should have any type of knowledge what so ever when it comes to Pro. Wrestling. They have TV writing, soap opra writing, etc... but nothing about the actual sport. If you ask me, knowledge of both the history AND current day going ons are VERY vital to be a good writer in wrestling.

 

3) I feel there should be two "head writers", and under them a team of about five individuals who throw out ideas, come up with new happenings, etc... The two "head writers" would then report to Vince McMahon himself, and go over everything between the three of them.

 

4) All wrestlers should be listened to when it comes to ideas. They should bring them up in a professional manner, and just leave it at that. There should be NO putting up with crybabies and the such. Allow them to speak their minds, but any whining would be dealt with swiftly and sternly.

 

...those are just some things I feel should go down. I'm not sure about certain people however, as I just put the people in my topic because I know at one time or another they all were bookers/writers and the such. So come on guys...

 

 

...once and for all, who would make the PERFECT writing/booking team in your opinion? Also, what rules, and regulations do you feel should be present concerning who is allowed on it, and how it should go down?

I agree with everything you said, here is MY list of writers(which would deffinatly ever happen in real life mind you):

 

Vince Mcmahon- everything must pass through him, and he has to be present at the meetings.

 

Paul Heyman- He can head up the "Entertainment" part of the shows, he truly knows what most fans like.

 

Bret Hart- Leaving the fucking smut out of the show, he has good ideas and a level head.

 

Dynamite Kid- Heading up the "Wrestling" part of the shows, pushes the talented workers and give proper credit to actual matches.

 

Shane Mcmahon- He can add new elements to the shows, has a keen eye for it.

 

Carl Demarco- Head of WWE Canada, knows how to market and will know what can work in a public situation.

Very good points, and I would LOVE to see good ol' Dynamite back in the business in some for or fassion, as he is truly one of my top five favorite "wrestlers" of all time. However, from what I understand, there is basicly little, if any, chance of this ever happening. Vince, you could at least try just for me couldn't ya? :)

I think the wrestlers (in the feud being written) should be sat down with the creative team. Let the creative team dish out a rough sketch of what they have planned for them, let the wrestler's have their input on it or any additions and stuff, then come up with a final draft outline of how the feud will go. Once most of the feuds are put together, start writing up the shows for the next 2 - 6 months in advance, add or delete as necessary as time goes by. It gives BOTH wrestlers a chance to give input on storylines and see how it goes. I don't know about who should be the bookers or writers, but the above type of system has been on my mind for a while.

Me I Should be on there.. No Past experience no TV degree, No Past wrestling history. Just a fan since 86 and with familiarity of other feds Wrestling both US and Japan.

Just a quick creative team:

Head Writer: Shane MacMahon

Head Writer: Dean Malenko

Lesser Writers: Vince Russo

Paul Heyman

Jim Cornette

Jim Ross

Arn Anderson

Ric Flair

 

I think this would be a very good combinations. Shane has good buisness sense, and so does Dean. Shane could provide the more entertaining "sports entertainment" half while Dean could concentrate more on the wrestling. Heyman's strength (getting guys over) could be put to good use. Russo could be heavily filtered and produce some good ideas. Flair would be able to of course contribute his knowledge. Arn would, too. Cornette's writing experiance wouldn't hurt. J.R. could be the connection between the wrestlers, bookers and then translate both of those groups desires into the broadcast booth and hence get wrestlers over more efficiantly.

I'd be fine with Russo and Heyman as head writers with Vince overseeing everything. They wouldn't even have to hire anyone new(unless Russo has left).

Well, I figure that as advisors, Cornette, Foley, and Shane could all contribute their strengths (old-school feud building, comedy/promo, fan impulse) in with the guy that's head a promotion that's had a little bit of everything (Heyman).

 

Russo means nothing to me, however - what he's got in erratic genius is quickly made up for in lack of respect for the business (Vince Russo: World Champion) and sheer insanity (Tank Abbott: World Champion).

I would get alot of new people, and get rid of the current writers, cause they arn't working. Yes, including heyman. Can we say commentator/ manager? I don't want all the old ECWers getting the pushes, as that is what Heyman would do(which is why he is on SD and not Raw)

 

I would basically have Mick Foley and Shane be consulers, as such, and then go out and scope the indys/ what have you for new writers. And I would goto hollywood and hire someone good, so there can be angles aside from the lowest denominator.

Basically, Vince should stay a figure head. Unbiased Vince seems to work really well.

 

I like Russo as creative advisor. I think that fits him well if he's allowed to contribute, and argue.

 

I think Heyman deserves head. He has the most experience in that position and is probably the most radical in his ideas.

 

I like Cornette. I like Shane but supposedly he doesn't have that business sense. Foley has some pretty good ideas. I'd liked to see Austin as a consultant or something if he ever irons out his differences and is not wrestling. I think it that sense he'll be better relegated.

The writers should have a show planned in 4 weeks advance. Quick changes due to anything can be made and altered as such.

 

The WWE would take a break for a month or two. The product seems to have gotten overexposed and a break could lead everyone to wonder when and where it is. It could renew some interest to the fall startup.

 

Head/Detail Writer(s): Vince McMahon/Dean Malenko

Main Writers (for large scale storylines): Paul Heyman/Bret Hart/Shane McMahon/Mick Foley

Subwriters (for smaller, midcard storylines): Arn Anderson/Al Snow (assuming he has retired to training)

Female Advisor (for the women's division and women-related storylines): Stephanie McMahon (no longer involved in division, hopefully.)

Subcreative advisor: Vince Russo

Wrestler Representative: The Undertaker (locker room leader, and probably soon to retire. No bullshit, either. He'd be the one to go to with ideas and commentary.)
