The Next Roddy Piper...

Knew I'd get your attention with that one. UPN has/had a movie on tonight, Operation Sandman: Warriors in Hell that has everyone's favorite Alabaman in a heavily marketed, if not prominent role. The first I heard about this was last night during Smackdown! commercials, but I checked on IMDb and it's actually been out for 2 years, with Amazon selling it with a $49 price tag (!). Has anyone seen it, and is it any good?

I don't know anything about the movie, but I'd like to say that Holly has no chance of becoming the next Roddy Piper. Holly isn't even charismatic or popular in his chosen profession.

although holly has no chance of being an actor i would love to see it. i think it's cool that he actually got a role in a movie. not very many wrestlers can say that.

It's too bad Austin imploded, otherwise I've always thought he'd make a great B-movie actor, a la Roddy Piper. He could easily star in a zillion b-movies every year, and you & I both know that they'd probably be successful.

Austin ruled as Jake Cage on Nash Bridges.

Come on, he drove a motorcycle and whacked people with a briefcase, you can't get more badass than that.

Hmmm... I hope they air it again, because I missed it tonight and apparently, last time as well (which I guess would've been in 2000). Hopefully sooner than 2004, because if it was any good (or even better if it wasn't) I could write up a column about it... can't get a better wrestling reference than old Sparky Plugg!

By the way, I know Holly has no chance in hell of being the next Piper, but who knows... maybe this is his big break, his Frogtown ;)

Actually, speaking of old UPN specials... does anyone remember this one about an alien abduction or something? For some reason I was thinking about it the other day, I remember when it first came out I didn't know it was staged and it freaked me out 'cuz I thought it was real.

I REMEMBER that show.

In fact, I actually think I have it on tape somewhere in my video collection.

That was a GREAT one-hour special they did. Total Blair Witch concept, but very freaky. They had low budget special effects, but they worked hard to make it all seem real.

Spookiest scene for me is when the 3 (2?) young men are out in the woods, and they see the aliens mutilating cattle. Then they turn away for a second, and when they turn back, the aliens are looking RIGHT at them. That was a definite "Oh shit!" moment for me.

Yea, what really got me was the ending though... if Blair Witch had done that, I wouldn't have hated the movie as much. The ending is what really really scared me at the time.

Although now that I think about, I should've realized the convenience of the "camera static" every time there would've been a good view of the aliens, like when they were entering the house through the upstairs window.
