xpw has a good show + more

really. i know i am going to get bashed for this, but XPW had a good show, and its getting nothing except positive feedback from all the fans that were there.

first off, dont bash me by saying xpw sucks you are stupid, because first off, xpw doesnt suck, yes some shows that they put on do, but they arent as bad as you people say they are. the promoter does have his problems, but I'll get into that later. I LIKE XPW. SUE ME. I LIKE IT. I dont like black, but i like XPW. Secondly, dont bash me by saying that I am stupid because i am a local fan or something because in truth, I live in New York City, and I am not a mutant fan. I used to flame XPW on message boards saying things like "XPW sucks" because I was pissed about the whole HeatWave PPV thing, I also hadn't even seen the product yet, I was just basing my opinion on Scott Keith Rants, etc. Around that time XPW had its TV show on the web every week, so after I got road runner installed, one day I downloaded an episode, and it was, in truth, pretty decent. I bought some tapes, and while no tape is perfect, most of them were pretty good, although a couple of the early ones were pretty terrible, I do admit.

 

That was back in May of 2001, now its over a year later, and XPW has been in a down period. They are booked in the grand olympic auditorium, and they can only have shows 6-9 weeks apart because of how booked up the GOA is. Thats terrible. XPW was drawing okay numbers but not having shows for such a long time isnt good for your workers. The shows themselves were decent, but nothing special.

 

For all the haters, when XPW had the big show in the begining of the year and hyped the surprise and the wrestler, something fell through, and whoever it was, no-showed. sources have said that it was supossed to be the macho man or something. it wasnt XPW's fault, and they had to book at the last minute to cover up the mishap, which failed and pissed off their fans. it really was a shame, because the show was excellent except for that fact.

 

furthermore, whenever something is posted about the snake/puppy/etc, internet marks jump on it like rob black is the worst man alive, and the truth is, i dont think that rob believes anyone actually believes that stuff. if rob wanted to post things like that why would he post it on his porn website (www.extremeassociates.com), instead of xpw's site (www.xpwrestling.com?)

 

the xpw roster was ok, the only person who i dont like in it is juvi, because he doesnt try there.

 

so, anyways, im rambling now, but xpw did, in fact, have a good show, and the company is really changing for the better.

 

they are now wrestling in another arena that isnt booked as much, so they can now run shows more often (3 weeks apart as opposed to 9)

 

they got rid of crappy wrestlers like new jack, kronus, kraq

 

they now have so many more faces that are really good and they still have some established stars there that draw attention

 

they are adding a tag team title and are having the finals of the tourny at the next show, "night of champions"

 

here is the complete list of xpw's active roster with what i think about them:

 

webb: ok wrestler, but needs to wrestle in gimmick matches to get over

 

kaos: the best home grown xpw wrestler there. a really good wrestler. can wrestle any style

 

sandman: good brawler, established star.

 

supreme: good for deathmatches, thats it.

 

grimes: brawler, but can actually wrestle quite well.

 

crimson: not really a wrestler, all he does is brawl.

 

pogo the clown: get a new gimmick, sucks, xpw should fire him.

 

chirs hamrick: great wrestler, has put on nothing but spectacular matches since his debut.

 

vinnie massaro: good wrestler, was in apw.

 

steve rizzano: sucks, should be fired

 

gq money: a bit overrated, but still decent

 

angel: despite his gimmick, still a decent wrestler

 

preston ascott: sucks

 

juvi: needs to try harder, because he is good if he tries

 

psicosis: good lucha wrestler

 

the altar boys: new to xpw, but impressed everyone at the last show

 

mexicos most wanted: a pretty decent tag team

 

awc and shady: another new good tag team

 

the new black panthers: this team has k kwick and some other guys, decent

 

scott snot: a decent wrestler

 

D: a fantastic worker, always tries his hardest

 

i think thats it

 

now, at the last show there were only around 600 people there, but because of the feedback that the last show has gotten, a lot of fans are going to go to the next show

 

basically XPW had no competition for a while, which hurt them, and now because of EPIC, they are getting ther @#%$ together. xpw is realizing their mistakes and they are trying to correct things. this show was a turning point for them and if they continue to try hard they will get their fanbase back. xpw is starting to re build itself, it wont be easy, and it wont happen overnight, but eventually, if they keep trying hard they will do it. for example, at the last show terry funk said that he wants to buy xpw from rob black and make xpw like he made ecw, and it really got the fans pumped. this may just be a story line, who knows, but at least its a step in the right direction, and i also heard that shane douglas wants to help with booking too, the next show is the 20th, and a lot of people are hyped about it, it will probably be the biggest one of the year, combining the end of the tag title tourny with a deathmatch tourny

Also, even though I've heard all the stories about Rob Black, I was thinking of checking out (and probably reviewing for the site) an XPW DVD. The following shows are on DVD:

"Blown to Hell" actually isnt exploding cage its exploding ring, and its not that great. kaos vs new jack sucks, and webb vs mystery end up being a pretty good match between webb, vampiro, and the sandman. other than that on the card there are a couple of decent matches, and then there is some crappy crap.

 

Baptized in blood one is okay, it has some really great matches, and then some terrible ones, but XPW makes up for it by adding 2 bonus matches on the end of the tape. if you were going to review a tape for the site out of the 2, i think you should get this one, but the best wrestling tape (not dvd) is XPW: WE WRESTLE. its pretty good too.
