Yep. Take a look at our last presidential election. Anytime that happens in some other country, we bomb the shit out of them. It happens here, most people feel it's fixed, and yet we say "Well, that's how the system's designed." Nobody bothered to listen to my suggestion of settling it in a Texas Death Match...

I mean, really. After 9-11, I lost a friend....not someone who died on that day, she's just a Canadian citizen.

 

We ceased being being friends when she opened her dumb bitch mouth and promptly told me that she was sorry we got bombed, but that we had it coming.

 

She said this hours after the planes hit, while thousands lay dead or dying in the rubble. We "had it coming".

 

If not for people with the surname of Benoit, it was almost enough for me to hate Canadians.

I DOn't feel that America as a whole is ignorant and I don't think that America 'had it coming'. My comment was meant for ppl who think that everything revovles around America. Anybody who says that is just a blindly patriotic whore of the US government... and in terms of "we had it coming", we did because everyone hated us for our being on bad terms with them and they wanted to cause us horrible pain and suffering. We all know that very well.

 

BUT, nothing justifies the killing of innocent people who had nothing to do with the US's bad relations with countries, and anybody who thinks otherwise is just plain cold to others' suffering, sorry.

But basically, I don't think America's the only country that matters. Hell, Toronto's one of my favorite cities, and even I think we're one of the most hypocritical countries in the world. Some countries don't want us to interfere, even if they DO feel repressed by their governments. If The Soviet Union would have invaded us in the 50s trying to convince us that communism or socialism was the way to go, everybody would have bitched, and yet "spreading democracy" is used by almost every president to justify sending troops over to some country I can't pronounce.

 

OK, I'm getting off my political high horse for the next month or so.

Umm... we were at war with them. There is a difference. Going by your logic Pearl Harbor would have been an act of terrorism and they started first. Technically in war lots of civillians died as well when Britain bombed Berlin... are the Brits terrorists too?

Anyway, thanks for your thoughts on this topic. When I finally started getting the bad feelings we get from a neighboring country that I always thought we had decent relations with (Canada), guess it just freaked me out a bit. Here's my two cents on everything:

 

1. US is the most important country in the world? LOL!!! That cracks me up. Sure, we got "the ball" right now, but that's not to say that in 20 years some other country won't be the "most important". Actually, I'm kinda wishing that another country will step up to the "big kid in the schoolyard", let someone else deal with the hassle for a while.

 

2. Did we REALLY deserve it? Well, I don't think ALL of the people in the towers and the Pentagon deserved it, at least. I'm sure some did, but I don't think they all did.

 

3. Ok, I don't get this whole "the rest of the world needs to be like the US crap." Just look at us for fuck's sake, do we REALLY want every country in the world to be like us? Do we really? Just ONE country pulling off all this crap is enough, we don't need 50+ more doing it too!

 

4. And for the record, I don't hate all Muslims, Russians, or Canadians. Just the jerk-offs and the ones that want to kill me. Thank you.

Its ignorant of the rest of the World to hate America. I'm from UK and a lot of people over here don't like the USA. Its probably because most have never been to America, and assume that all American's are like the ones on Jerry Springer.

Canadians don't hate the USA. Our problem is that we feel the Americans don't respect us (again, usually due to the dumbfuck citizens already mentioned). We also have a rivalry in sports, but that is really only due to the fact that we are neighbours, and Canada doesn't have a border with any other nation besides the US.

Bombing Japan was the best way we had to end a wat that *JAPAN* started. We did not iniate violence with Japan, they did. We won won the war so now we're terrorists? I don't think so.

 

 

America is not the only country that matters, we simply matter mpre than any other country. That's the truth, I'm sorry if you guys don't like. But we're the most powerful and influential country in the world. I have no problem with Canada but they are somewhat insignificant when it comes to world politics. I remember hearing some guy at my school say this about the 9-11 event.

 

He figured that the hijackers were not from the taliban at all, but just people from Afghanistan, the americans just needed something to point the finger and blame it.

 

He went on and saying that the the WTC attack was more of an attention to get Americans and big world powers to come to go over to Afghanistan, seeing how pathetically bad it was, needed a lot of people to take care of the Al-Quida.

 

I mean yes 2800 people died, but it was probably the only option left, and before that guy showed up I was stoned...so i wasn't really paying attention, except for some red lights

The United States thinks they are the center of the world and everything must involve them. They try to control other countries and stick their noses in other buisness. Just take World War II, alot of Americans feel they won the war all by themselves and the world would be ran by the Germans if it wasn't for America. I was born here in America, but I'm first generation Greek American, meaning that my parents came from Greece to here. I don't hate American culture by a long shot, but to be totally honest, I'm not patriotic about America either. I guess it's because I'm proud of my Greek heritage. I do like this country for it's advances, but in the Global political scene, the USA gets away with a lot of stuff that a country like Senegal or Nepal might not be able to do. The thing is, between America and other cultures, there is a lack of communication, therefore neither culture truly understands each other. The USA doesn't help by sending troops everywhere there is a minor conflict. I just think that there is a definite lack of communication between American culture and European, Asian, and Middle Eastern cultures. If all cultures solved problems diplomatically instead of militarily, I'm sure there would be a better atmosphere in the world.......

In WWII it was America and Russia who won the war and neigther of us came in until we were attacked. BTW the Germans didn't attack us, Japan did, so we went to Europe out of the goodness of our hearts. Germany invaded the USSR and miscalcualted how they could handle the Soviet winter. The Russians lost 20 million people in that war but still beat the Germans back to Germany, we lost tons of men and still beat the Germans, the French only lasted about 2 weeks and the Britsh were hurting badly. As a result of America and Russia winning the war Germany was split in half. Remember that?
