Guest Ignatz Belzner Report post Posted July 7, 2002 I want to go on the record and say that Limp Bizkit's debut album, "Three Dollar Bill, Y'All" was one of the greatest albums I have ever personally had the joy of listening to. It had everything you could ask from a band with average talent (excepting the guitarist whose name slips my mind, who kiccked ass, mind you...and Fred, who rapidly became a whining bitchninny.) I mean, the intro was good. The friggin' Intro. Pollution, Counterfeit, STUCK~!...great songs. Hell, the second album was actually a halfway-decent...uh...thing. Until it got played to pieces on the radio, that is. But the third album...the third album, horror of horrors, what were they THINKING??!?! What a mockery of music...a waste of recording media. To paraphrase Dave Pinfield (what an ass...) from the Outro of "Significant Other:" I wouldn't piss on this CD to put out a fire. So, where did they go wrong? What happened? Why, God, why? Guest razazteca Report post Posted July 7, 2002 what went wrong is that the band became another TRL a fan favorite which made them change the style to be more mainstream, correct me if I'm wrong. Either that or Carson Daly is to blame. It tends to happen alot
Guest Mindless_Aggression Report post Posted July 7, 2002 Limp Bizkit, even from the Three Dollah...album just sounded like the fakest thing on the planet to me. First off, Faith was obviously there in case no one latched onto their own songs. It was a panic single. "Shit no one gave a damn about Sour, or Counterfit, release Faith" The band just came off as incredibly fake, processed and money grubbing to me anyways, from day 1. Durst also may be the worst lyricist ever. I will give Wes, the original guitarist credit though. He can play. He's not there anymore either, which is good. Okay i'm done rambling. Guest dreamer420 Report post Posted July 7, 2002 just like the offspring they started off wicked, and slowly got shitty
Guest Zero_Cool Report post Posted July 7, 2002 It's funny. MTV2 was playing Limp Bizkit's Ultrasound that came out right before they released Sig. Other. Durst himself looked a lot different, a lot more humble if you we-il. He even had a southern accent. I was thinking, "wow. what happened here?" Simply, they became pop stars. Guest Incandenza Report post Posted July 7, 2002 What are people talking about? Limp Bizkit ALWAYS sucked. Overexposure killed a band that wasn't good in the first place.
Guest Zero_Cool Report post Posted July 7, 2002 What are people talking about? Limp Bizkit ALWAYS sucked. Overexposure killed a band that wasn't good in the first place. In hindsight, yes, they did suck from the beginning. Also, I bet that the best band of all time could be spoiled by overexposure. Just a feeling, I have. Guest Incandenza Report post Posted July 7, 2002 Also, I bet that the best band of all time could be spoiled by overexposure. Just a feeling, I have Not if they were the "best band of all time." Constant publicity will expose any weaknesses a band may have, but if you were the greatest thing ever, you shouldn't have to worry about overexposure. Guest Zero_Cool Report post Posted July 7, 2002 Perhaps. But say you had a band and throughout a twenty year stretch, they had no problems at all. I'm talking no drug problems, no "creative differences," nothing. Plus, they are media darlings. But say all of a sudden, the drummer tries to kill his wife AND children, taking that extra step. With the almost certain media backlash towards the band, could even the most talented group of all time right the ship and keep going, even with the constant media attention over the matter? Guest Incandenza Report post Posted July 7, 2002 Well, yeah, if the drummer went batshit and started killing people, you'd have a point.
Guest Zero_Cool Report post Posted July 7, 2002 Yeah, yeah, the whole entire thought reeks of a USA original movie. But meh, it makes an interesting topic.
Guest redbaron51 Report post Posted July 7, 2002 Three Dollar Bill wasn't exactly great...decent, but with the help of MTV, Carson Daly and Jonathon Davis from Korn (brought Limp to almost every fricken concert they went too), it made them what they are today. Boring.
Guest caboose Report post Posted July 7, 2002 I used to love them. But now they just piss me off. Re-Arranged however is one of favourite tracks of all time.
Guest evenflowDDT Report post Posted July 8, 2002 Three Dollar Bill Y'all was decent. Not something I'd listen to willingly, but it wasn't all too bad. The demos for Significant Other even had my two favorite songs from the band (which I still like, an untitled instrumental and a still-unreleased track called "Don't Remember"). But somehow when Significant Other was finally released, Zero_Cool put it best, they became pop stars and it all fell apart. Of course it also doesn't hurt that around that time I began to heavily dislike the "rap-rock" movement (which before I had thought was "all right").
Guest cynicalprofit Report post Posted July 8, 2002 How can a band suck before they even have a record deal or you hear them? 3DB was cool, it was a new sound and a change in direction of music. Still one of the better albums made at the time. Then when they got famous, LB went to shit, it became about money, plain and simple. Wes was about the music, fred wanted pussy and cash, thats why wes left. He had talent, he had integrity. Only good thing Fred ever did was find staind. Sides, LB ripped off some other flordia band who never got famous, and for the life of me i cant rememebr the bands name, i want to say the word gorilla is involved but im not sure. When did the drummer flip out, never heard about that.
Guest Incandenza Report post Posted July 8, 2002 When did the drummer flip out, never heard about that. You misdunderstood. We were talking about a hypothetical drummer in a hypothetical "greatest band ever."
Guest Zero_Cool Report post Posted July 8, 2002 Yes. Yes we were...we were hypothetically conversing (a word?) on whether or not "the greatest band of all time" could keep going after something very bad happened while they were in the media spotlight. Guest La Parka Es Mi Papa Report post Posted July 9, 2002 I never liked Limp Bizkit, not even Three Dollar Billz. Fred Durst deserves to die.
Guest KANE Report post Posted July 9, 2002 I think the shame of that band is that instrumentally, they're very talented. It's just that Durst is so annoying as a frontman, he spoils the whole thing. With a different singer, I probably would have been a fan of theirs (Don't they just rip it up on the M:I 2 theme during the instrumental parts? Who would add lyrics to that and ruin it? Damn you, Durst). Any time that Durst keeps quiet, they rock. Unfortunately, he can't go more than 4 seconds without adding an "Ooh!," "Whaa!," or some dumb shout-out. Flame me if you will, but I maintain that their music was good, but Durst spoiled the broth.
Guest Big McLargeHuge Report post Posted July 9, 2002 Never liked them. They're a band for 15 year old sub-urban white kids who are angry about something that I don't quite understand. Not a knock on white people in general, I just don't understand where Limp is coming from, that's all. But I never liked the rap/rock genre as a whole anyway. Seems a tad fake. Guest godthedog Report post Posted July 9, 2002 Also, I bet that the best band of all time could be spoiled by overexposure. Just a feeling, I have. what about the beatles? they're generally considered the best band ever, & they get the FUCK overexposed out of them (the anthologies, that bullshit "1" album...hell, they made more money this past year than all but 2 music artists & they broke up 30 years ago), their credibility hasn't suffered at all because of it. Guest SuperTonyJaymz Report post Posted July 9, 2002 Actually they lost alot of credibility when Lennon(i think it was him)said they were"Higher than God" or something to that likeness. They got alot of flack for that. the Beattles rule though. Limp Bizkit could be so great if it wasn't for durst. If you take out the fred durst singing, and just listen to the guitars, the dj, etc. the band is pretty damn good. If they had a different frontman, they'd be so much better. Guest Kinetic Report post Posted July 11, 2002 Actually they lost alot of credibility when Lennon(i think it was him)said they were"Higher than God" or something to that likeness. They got alot of flack for that. the Beattles rule though. He said they were "bigger than Jesus." Taken out of context, it sounds pretty blasphemous and did cause them quite a bit of trouble with the book-burning crowd. It was really in reference to them being more influential in the lives of teenagers than Jesus, which they were at the time. Lennon wasn't saying that it was a good thing, he was just stating the fact. That's not the point of what was being discussed here, though. In my opinion, if you can survive having your face plastered on lunchboxes, mugs, stickers, t-shirts, backpacks, etc. without a major and potentially career-ending backlash, then nothing can stop you. In which case Limp Bizkit failed in some areas, but succeeded in others. They lost a lot of respect from a lot of Metal fans, but they earned the admiration of a lot of Pop fans. Guest undisputedjericho Report post Posted July 12, 2002 Lets not forget Fred's stellar directorial career, in which all his videos are exactly the same, are in total focus of the lead singer, and suck donkey balls.
Guest thefrenchargel Report post Posted July 13, 2002 for a long time, Limp Bizkit was the worst band I'd ever heard. Then I heard Drowning Pool. If I was in a room with the lead singer of drowning pool, adolph hitler, and a gun with two bullets, I'd shoot the dude from Drowning Pool twice to wound him, then pistolwhip him to death
