Guest MrRant Posted July 8, 2002 Report Posted July 8, 2002 Has anyone else seen this? I find that Pinky and the Brain, Angry Beavers, Rocko's Modern Life and a lot of other cartoons have hidden messages directed towards older viewers. I distinctly remember a episode of Pinky and the Brain in which Brain referred to "Going to a place where women where lots of make-up" or something to that effect and Pinky said "Where? Charile Sheen's house?". I also have noticed at the end of Tiny Toons if you watch the credits there is always a hidden message. What have you noticed?
Guest raptor Posted July 8, 2002 Report Posted July 8, 2002 Well, there is the entire sub-culture undercurrent in Scooby Doo. Homosexuality, Drug Use, and Casual Sex were supposedly covered. In my opinion, it's a case of people reading to much into a pop culture icon, but the theories have been around for a long time.
Guest MrRant Posted July 8, 2002 Report Posted July 8, 2002 I am talking more about things the characters say/do that are obvious to adults but not to children like the my above post. I do think that the creators had a certain "type" of person for each character.
Guest papacita Posted July 8, 2002 Report Posted July 8, 2002 Yeah, I noticed a lot of stuff in Looney Tunes and stuff like that that I didn't get when I was little, but now it's like "I can't believe they said on a kids show". I can't think of any off the top of my head, but I definitely know what u mean.
Guest Razor Roman Posted July 8, 2002 Report Posted July 8, 2002 Animators often put jokes in for Adults to get. Especially nowadays, when a lot of parents grew up on cartoons, they want to be entertained when they take their kids to see cartoons. So cartoons have gotten "Smarter", think of things like Shrek... lots of pop culture references and spoofs of things that most kids haven't seen or heard of. And let's not even get into the infamous nude frames placed in cartoons. Just think about drawing almost the same thing for 8 - 12 hours a day... you need to amuse yourself somehow! (I know about this stuff cause I used to know some animators when I worked in Disney)
Guest DrEvil Posted July 8, 2002 Report Posted July 8, 2002 I like the messages they put in The Simpsons whenever they have some information quickly scroll across the screen. It's all just a bunch of useless stuff, but it's funny. One I remember reading said "If you are reading this you have no life."
Guest dreamer420 Posted July 8, 2002 Report Posted July 8, 2002 i watch rugrats for that kind of humor. the rugrats movie was filled with it too.
Guest RetroRob215 Posted July 8, 2002 Report Posted July 8, 2002 Spongebob also has stuff that goes over most kid's heads.
Guest evenflowDDT Posted July 9, 2002 Report Posted July 9, 2002 Let's not forget "Animaniacs"... that was a lot of its appeal. I remember in one episode they had a visual of Queen Elizabeth hitting Prince Charles over the head with a mallet and Yakko turned the camera and said "Ask your parents!" Funny stuff. But yea, there has to be "inside stuff" so that adults have a reason to watch other than with their kids. I think it's pretty cool most of the time. Razor Roman, what did you do for Disney?>
Guest caboose Posted July 9, 2002 Report Posted July 9, 2002 Last night, an episode of Pokemon told me to kill all pets, because Pokemon were real.
Guest Razor Roman Posted July 9, 2002 Report Posted July 9, 2002 I was a college program intern at Disney World... a tour guide at the Animaiton Studio tour at Didney MGM Studios... it was a blast... and I got to meet and hang out with the artists sometimes... but here's a hint... the guy who draws for you when you take the tour isn't really an animator. Think of that position as being in OVW for animators. :-) But they were cool and the real animators are all awesome too.
Guest Ripper Posted July 9, 2002 Report Posted July 9, 2002 Animaniacs had the funniest one to me. Yakko, Wakko and Dot were trying to solve this mystery on a ship and Yakko told dot she needed to get "finger prints" Then the artist formally known as Prince pops down from the ceiling out of no where and starts smiling at Dot...she looks at the camera and says, "Not going there"...get it. FINGER PRINCE.
Guest dreamer420 Posted July 9, 2002 Report Posted July 9, 2002 i like most of todays animated cartoons for those reason too. the emperor's new groove and shrek were two of the best i have ever seen.
Guest Ravenbomb Posted July 10, 2002 Report Posted July 10, 2002 and don't forget the cover to The Little Mermaid.
Guest Doomsault Posted July 10, 2002 Report Posted July 10, 2002 Can someone please tell all of the hidden Disney messages? I've heard of the erection in the Little Mermaid, sex in the sky in the Lion King, and the dead swinging dwarf in the Wizard of Oz.(this one is real)
Guest Mattdotcom Posted July 10, 2002 Report Posted July 10, 2002 www.snopes.com It has all the answers to Dusney stuff and more.
Guest lomasmoney Posted July 11, 2002 Report Posted July 11, 2002 In an episode of the Powerpuff Girls, Princess makes crime legal after She bought townsville. In the next scene you can see a guard let out prisonsers. One of the prisoners were on all fours and the other two were straight up!
Guest Lord of The Curry Posted July 12, 2002 Report Posted July 12, 2002 Hidden racist messages in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Red Ranger- Native American Black Ranger- African American Yellow Ranger- Asian The Pink and Blue Rangers aren't really racially symbolic, just odd that the Pink one (Female) is a preppy, chirpy, valley girl type and the Blue one (Male) is the nerdy, quiet type.
Guest M Nyland Posted July 13, 2002 Report Posted July 13, 2002 In my Mass Comm Theory classes we spent a few weeks on stuff like this. I love this kind of stuff... I can have conversations about it and argue with it for hours
