Guest Sandman9000 Report post Posted July 11, 2002 Well, half the time, Balls Mahoney failed to catch him, and RVD is still alive.
Guest Smeghead Report post Posted July 11, 2002 Bottom line, it's a scary, scary move. If he doesn't make it or his opponent fails to break his fall, he's basically dead. Once again, this is RVD we're talking about. The man is made of cartilage. If they failed to catch him, he'd definitely be hurting bad enough that he'd need medical care. But he'd probably get up, finish the match, and then get in his rental car and drive himself to the hospital.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Report post Posted July 11, 2002 The more I watch him...the less I can understand how he ever broke his leg in the first place. Serioulsy...this guy is indestructable. Maybe the broken leg was a work to get the tv title off of him without jobbing... maybe RVD is a political mastermind!!!!!!
Guest cabbageboy Report post Posted July 11, 2002 I think RVD never jobbing the TV title is what ultimately hurt ECW beyond repair. No one got the insane rub of beating him for the title. Also he never got the world title in ECW, which is something that probably shocks a lot of people who never saw ECW.
Guest Austin3164life Report post Posted July 11, 2002 I always think he isn't going to make it... whether it be a turning frog splash...a frog splash from far away or a Van terminator. But the son of a bitch always makes it. And that's why he will probably always remain mega-over with pro-wrestling fans......

I always said that TV title reign was the best thing that ever happened to the company...until he got hurt. Look at it: RVD became the star of the promotion as a secondary champion. Why did anyone give a shit about Jerry Lynn? Because he was RVD's toughest opponent. The man who would have beat him would have been a huge star in the company...and the RVD vs. that guy feud would have been huge for them.
Guest RobJohnstone Report post Posted July 11, 2002 I don't think heyman gave him the title for reasons listed here http://www.thesmartmarks.com/forums/index....57301ddc0840f30 HE has gotten better, but when he was in ECW he exposed the business and you cannot have your world champion expose the business, especially in the situation his company was in at the time. --Rob
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Report post Posted July 11, 2002 If I'm not mistaken...RVD passed on the opportunity to be world champion and obviously would have been had the company not gone out of business. Sabu was ECW champion...and no one exposed the business more than he did...not even RVD. IF it was the WWE I'd agree. But ECW played by their own rules as far as pushing. Guest RobJohnstone Report post Posted July 11, 2002 bps, I didn;t know he passed on the oppotunity to be world champion, I am wrong if that's true, I don;t see why though. The amin guy makes mroe money I always though in a promotion built like that. As for sabu, even though he was exposing the business, he helped build ECW, he made the table spot famous. He was the marqee guy, RVD was never the marqee guy, always most voer, never the big man, until maybe the end. --Rob

Everyone knew that RVD was the main man in the company even though he held the secondary title. I am sure RVD was taken care of monetarily compared to the other wrestlers (Well taken care of to the point of a high salary not necessarily actually getting the check). Guest RobJohnstone Report post Posted July 11, 2002 pinjockey, you are probably right about him getting as much money, but I still think heyman was hesitant to give him the belt. WE will never know until the heyman shoot comes out --Rob
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Report post Posted July 11, 2002 I think Heyman is a guy who builds towards the future. I would think he saw RVD winning as a huge payoff down the road. Heyman likes to drag things out (Dreamer beating Raven for example) so that they can get the maximum reaction. RVD was the top guy in the company from about halfway through his tv title reign until Heyman...well...ran out of money. And I can't confirm him turning down the title...its just something I've heard in a few places...no way to know if its true or not.
Guest cabbageboy Report post Posted July 11, 2002 I actually posted a letter I got from Heyman on the old smarks forum. It was a fascinating letter on many levels. I originally wrote it to Dave Scherer (who used to run ecwwrestling.com) and detailed all of ECW's problems that I could see and several ways to improve it. Scherer passed it along to Heyman for some reason, and Heyman wrote me back. It's really funny now since damn near everything I said ended up being true, especially the point I made about not giving RVD the title. From reading I got the idea that Heyman wanted to get the hell off TNN and get on USA or something like that, where he would then have given RVD the title push. The problem I had with this idea is that ECW needed RVD with the title in mid 2000, not at some undetermined point when they get a new TV deal. If anyone would like me to post this letter I will gladly do so...it's not exactly WWE so it wouldn't be in this folder. What folder should I post it in? Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Report post Posted July 11, 2002 you could either put it in this thread (where it fits) or General Wrestling folder.
Guest chirs3 Report post Posted July 11, 2002 I'd like to read it. Post in General Wrestling, I guess.
