Guest NoCalMike Report post Posted July 9, 2002 Well it seems Bush has finally come out against all the crap that Big corporate greed has been doing. So I just hope he sticks to his notion that these CEOS need to be jailed, fined, etc........Sadly, I doubt this will happen because everyone knows he is probobaly collecting hush money as we speak behind closed doors. Not to say Gore and the Democrats wouldn't be doing the same exact thing, man this just sucks. Corporations run this country now and it is almost like, if we want to fix things, we are going to have to dismantly the whole government and start over. Guest LesnarLunatic Report post Posted July 9, 2002 let's see how this goes. I don't see it going too far in the first place. I figure it's more talk than action

Bush is a multi-millionaire, what does he need with more money? I'm not saying that I would be completely shocked if he were on teh take, but I doubt it. He did tell Enron to fuck off when they came begging, which is exactly what he should have done. That shows that he has at least some idea as to what is right and wrong for a President to do. Guest DrTom Report post Posted July 9, 2002 "Corporations run this country now and it is almost like, if we want to fix things, we are going to have to dismantly the whole government and start over." I'd say "corporations and their lobbyists run this country..." but other than that minor addition, you're spot-on. The big problem there is in Congress, I think, where someone can "serve" for thirty years, all the while lining his pockets more and more, going on trips all over the world, etc, all because of lobbyists. Bah. Corporations should have the same level of access to Congressmen that everyday people do. Get the goddamn lobbyists out of the Capitol, put term limits on Reps and Senators, and then let's see how much of a mess we have. Btw, I don't think Bush is on the take, I don't think Gore would be on the take in his place, and it's a bit of a cheap shot to imply otherwise.
Guest MrRant Report post Posted July 9, 2002 I need to find some articles that bash liberals just to even up the current threads in this folder. While I enjoy discussions and am not either (I follow what I believe and sometimes is liberalish or conservativish) it seems like some people are just out and out trying to bash conservatives. Guest NoCalMike Report post Posted July 10, 2002 I don't believe Bush told Enron to "fuck off" at all. What action has been taken? What penalties have come about besides the penalties to the working class that just had their life savings torn to shreds? Anyways, I just meant to imply that Bush/Gore are on the side of Corporations. Sure when a huge FUCK UP like Enron or Worldcom hits the mainstream media, the president(whoever he may be) has no choice but to say something, but where was the Dems/Repubs before this crap came about. Why weren't laws in place to prevent this type of thing from happening?
Guest Spicy McHaggis Report post Posted July 10, 2002 Why weren't laws in place to prevent this type of thing from happening? What additional laws could prevent a company from actively deceiving its investors, auditors, and government? The only thing that would work would be to enforce the current laws. This would mean threatening jail time to the CEO, Board, etc. This is just like gun-control. Everyone wants to make more and more laws to stop the use of guns. However, these people that illegally have guns or are using illegal business practices are breaking the law anyway... so what's to stop them from breaking other laws? Why the hell is the law not being enforced? If the administration knows laws have been broked, then why is nothing being done?

How coud any Presidetn know waht Enron was up to? If the share holders didn't how could the President? BTW Bush' mother in law lost a few thousand dollars in this thing. Guest 4Life Report post Posted July 13, 2002 Hhahaha. Wak up people. Bush and Cheney are hypocrates. They did the same things they're acusing other people of. http://salon.com/letters/editor/2002/07/10...mium/index.html
