Guest Dmann2000 Posted July 10, 2002 Report Posted July 10, 2002 I haven't watched this tape in a while and I was wondering what anyone else who's seen this match thought. At this point (97) Funk wasn't up for much but Hart was gold, so I figure this match had to be decent, probably *** maybe more. Also, if anyone else can think of some sleeper matches (and I'm talking stuff that would've been on RAW, SNME, WCW Saturday Night, early ECW shows etc.) Feel free to post your thoughts.
Guest Sean Mooney Posted July 10, 2002 Report Posted July 10, 2002 I have that match on my Bret Hart Shoot Interview Part 2 from RF Video tape. To be honest, I was dissapointed with it. Even though its clipped, it still goes about 18 minutes and I found it boring. The only other match I can compare it to is the Dory Funk Jr. vs Nick Bockwinkle match from Slamboree 93' although ironically enough I enjoyed the Funk-Bockwinkle match more. If I had to rate it, I'd give it about ** or **1/2 at the most.
Guest Dmann2000 Posted July 10, 2002 Report Posted July 10, 2002 Totally off topic (which I started) but I just rented Supertape 4, it's got a match between Koko B Ware and Tito Santana, and it's weird cause Koko is totally playing the heel in the match. And he's good at playing a sneaky heel. Poor guy could've probably had a nice run as a heel, instead of hanging out with that damn bird.
Guest HartFan86 Posted July 10, 2002 Report Posted July 10, 2002 I have always wondered how Hart/Funk was. I was even going to get the damn tape at one point, but I didn't. How was Sabu/Mankind?
Guest dreamer420 Posted July 10, 2002 Report Posted July 10, 2002 i seen a little of the footage from hart vs. funk in betyond the mat so i have always been on the lookout for that tape. plus i really want to see mankind vs. sabu as well.
Guest Sean Mooney Posted July 12, 2002 Report Posted July 12, 2002 If you guys really wanna see the Funk/Bret Hart match, its Bret Hart's 2nd shoot interview with RF VIDEO. You're not missing much though.
Guest Andy Posted July 12, 2002 Report Posted July 12, 2002 It's not brilliant, but it's worth a look at. Thanks, Andy
Guest The Voices In Your Head Posted July 14, 2002 Report Posted July 14, 2002 This is a little off topic too, but I've always wondered what people thought of this Sabu/Cactus match that aired on ECW TV back in '94. It's the match Cactus described in his book where Sabu breaks a beer bottle over his head on the 5th or 6th try, and Sabu injures his ribs when he Asai Moonsaults right on to them. It's one of the most brutal matches I've seen just for those two moments. Anyone else seen this match?
Guest Your Olympic Hero Posted July 14, 2002 Report Posted July 14, 2002 That Tito vs. Koko comment is weird, because they rarely did face vs. face matches back then. It must've been on one of the C house shows, where they don't have much to work with. But still, why put it on video?
Guest J*ingus Posted July 14, 2002 Report Posted July 14, 2002 The Funk-Hart match: it's okay, if kinda slow, it's almost half an hour long. Nothing spectacular, but the work is solid enough, think of Bret's matches with 'Taker for a good comparison. I haven't seen the Mankind-Sabu match, but I have seen the Cactus-Sabu match that Voices mentioned, and it's pretty sick. The match also goes on for thirty minutes, despite the fact that Sabu's injury occured about two minutes in. He just lies there for about ten minutes, while 911 and some others run in and beat down Cactus until Sabu can finally continue.
