Guest TheDames7 Report post Posted July 10, 2002 I'll admit, I really don't follow the Diamondbacks much. To be honest, the only times that I've ever seen BK Kim was in last years World Series where he blew two games straight in the 9th with 2 outs. Then today, in the All Star game, there are 3 straight hits on him and he allows 3 runs scored. Why is this guy an All Star?? Is it just me or am I catching this guy on his worst days ever? Guest bob_barron Report post Posted July 10, 2002 BK Kim is an awesome pitcher Dames- one of the best in the game. He just choked in the WS and its the ASG so that doesn't really mean anything
Guest TheDames7 Report post Posted July 10, 2002 Do you know his stats offhand? Dames
Guest bob_barron Report post Posted July 10, 2002 In 2001 he was 5-6 with a 2.94 ERA. This yr he's 2-1 with 2.34 ERA. Not too shabby- I probably shouldn't have called him one of the best in the game
Guest The Man in Blak Report post Posted July 10, 2002 Didn't Kim also give up the golf-shot to Cal Ripken at last year's all-star game?
Guest Grenouille Report post Posted July 10, 2002 Didn't Kim also give up the golf-shot to Cal Ripken at last year's all-star game? I think that was Chan Ho Park, but I might be wrong.
Guest MarvinisaLunatic Report post Posted July 10, 2002 It was Park. And why is he BK Kim? His name is Byung-Hyun Kim...
Guest TheDames7 Report post Posted July 10, 2002 Thats what they call him on ESPN and I was too lazy to spell his name out. Dames
Guest The Man in Blak Report post Posted July 10, 2002 It was Park. And why is he BK Kim? His name is Byung-Hyun Kim... D'oh, my mistake. Though I didn't think Park was really All-Star material, was he?
Guest bob_barron Report post Posted July 10, 2002 This year he ain't. Texas sure knows how to spot them don't they
Guest Kahran Ramsus Report post Posted July 10, 2002 I have Kim on my fantasy team and he is a great pitcher, he just can't handle himself when the national spotlight is on him.
Guest Redhawk Report post Posted July 10, 2002 It was Chan Ho Park, because I remember the interview where he was denying that he pretty much served Cal a freebie. BK Kim can't speak English, so I know it wasn't him. Anyway, I'm not all into baseball either, but I guess Kim is one of the MLB leaders in saves.

BK Kim can't speak English, so I know it wasn't him. Usually, if you think of a ridiculous gopher ball, think of Chan Ho Park. He's given up a few dubious dingers. Didn't he give up two grand slams to Fernando Tatis in the same INNING a couple years ago? The Dames SEZ: I'll admit, I really don't follow the Diamondbacks much. You're catching him on the worst days ever. He's about 19-22 in save opportunities or something like that. Also,l don't base a pitcher on his All-Star performance. Kaz Sasaki got lit up a bit last night too, but as of three weeks (and a stop in Coors Field) ago, his era was 0.32. That's POINT-THREE-TWO. I've had my blood alcohol level higher than that. LUNATIC - Pimpin' ho's and clockin' a grip like my name was Dolemite.
Guest phoenixrising Report post Posted July 10, 2002 Chan Ho is a good #2 or #3 starter, but when you bump him into the ace position he feels the pressure and doesn't pitch like an ace. Last year with LA he was great as the #2 (good enough to make the All-Star game), but when Kevin Brown went down again, Park had to be the #1 guy and did not impress anyone. Speaking of guys who normally don't get lit up, Eric Gagne gave up a homer to Soriano and that guy has something like a 0.59 ERA. Sasaki had a couple of bad outings right before the break, before that he was untouchable - think he had blown only one save before blowing back to back chances. Kim just has a habit of blowing it when the cameras are on him (WS, All-Star game).
Guest alkeiper Report post Posted July 10, 2002 Kim is also just 23 years old. He's got a ways to go yet. He was overworked last year, which probably led to his poor postseason performance. He does boast exceptional strikeout rates.
Guest redbaron51 Report post Posted July 10, 2002 Kim is all-right...but as a D'Backs fan I get nervous when he is out there. Right now, this year I think Eric Gange of the Dodgers is one hell of a closer, though got knocked around at the ASG.
Guest TheDames7 Report post Posted July 10, 2002 Last year, after his performance in Game 4, I cheered when they put him in to close Game 5. I figured the Yanks would have a chance. I didn't know! Same thing with Armando Benitez in 2000, I loved it when he tried to close against us, cuz he just couldn't do it. Dames
Guest pinnacleofallthingsmanly Report post Posted July 10, 2002 There was a closer that the Mets had that I would cheer, but I can't remember his name. He played for them a couple of years ago and couldn't close against the Yankees or anyone else for that matter.
Guest TheDames7 Report post Posted July 10, 2002 The only Mets closers that have played ever since Interleague play started, I believe, are John Franco and the aforementioned Armando Benitez. You can definitely tell the difference. Benitez is a dark skinned guy. Dames
Guest Some Guy Report post Posted July 10, 2002 Kim is pretty damn good. he did an interview with ESPN Magazine saying that he hopes to start by mext year when they get teh old closer healthy. Kim has a "rubber arm," meaning he can pitch everyday and Brenely uses it maybe a little too much. The D'backs swept the Sox and Kim pitched in all 3 games even though teh last one was a save oppotunity, then they went to NYC and didn't have him for the first two games there. I think Kim woudl be better as a starter bacause he's not over powering, ask Derek Lowe how hard it is to close games when you don't strike many out. Chan Ho Park is a great pitcher in Dodger Stadium and and an avgerage pitcher everywhere else. His ERA was a full run or two higher on the road last year. Gagne, Sasaki, Halliday, and Lowe ahd strang outings last night. None of those guys give up homers of get hit really hard much but they did last night. In Derek Lowe's defense it was Bonds who hit the would be HR off him. halliday got rocked an so did Sasaki. I think gagne is going to get into trouble with his fastball if he just lays it out there right doen the middle like he did to Soriano, who is a dead fast ball hitter. Guest kkktookmybabyaway Report post Posted July 11, 2002 "BK Kim is an awesome pitcher Dames- one of the best in the game. With that being said, I felt bad for that guy last year in the World Series. Thankfully, he didn't cost his team the championship.
Guest pinnacleofallthingsmanly Report post Posted July 11, 2002 This is going to drive me crazy now because apparently all signs of that pitcher the aforementioned pitcher have ceased to exist. He's not showing up on any of the old rosters, but I know he exists. I remember all of the pissed off Mets fans calling WFAN because the guy would always blow a lead. I know it wasn't Benitez because I listened to alot of Mets games on WFAN and he would usually get the job done (except against the Yankees).

Guest Some Guy Report post Posted July 11, 2002 Benitez only blows saves in teh playoffs, I beleive that and he starts figths with the entire opposing bench on occasion. That's why the O's shipped him out, he started a fight with the Yanks a few years back. Rojas was in the Red Sox system last year or the year before but he never recovered from an arm injury. Even if he did if he came up here and blew a few saves against teh Yanks he be run out if town anyway. We don't care for that shit here. Ask Derek Lowe how he was treated for doing that last year. Guest bob_barron Report post Posted July 11, 2002 That Orioles-Yankees brawl was the shit. Darryl like ran into the O's dugout and whooped some ass. Derek Lowe- You guys treated him like he was a Yankee
