Guest Kinetic Report post Posted July 10, 2002 I picked this up today and it's fantastic. Aside from the movie, which is beyond great, the extras are abundant and pretty enlightening. Anyone else get it?
Guest C.H.U.D. Report post Posted July 10, 2002 I enjoyed the film, but not enough to buy the DVD. The Criterion disc looks nice though.
Guest Mik at Cornell Report post Posted July 10, 2002 Yeah I picked it up. Did you see the easter egg of Kumar spinning plates and everyone chanting his name? Kumar is Pagoda in this movie and if you never saw it he fucking OWNS in Bottle Rocket.
Guest Incandenza Report post Posted July 10, 2002 Where's that easter egg? I have the DVD, but I haven't done much exploring yet.
Guest Mik at Cornell Report post Posted July 10, 2002 It's in the part with all the still photos. There's a few easter eggs in there, just click on pretty much everything.
Guest Kinetic Report post Posted July 11, 2002 That interview show is hilarious. I'd always been curious about the people who keep showing up in Anderson's movies.
Guest Lord of The Curry Report post Posted July 11, 2002 Hands down one of the best movies I've seen in a while. I first thought I hated it, but I watched it again and now have such an amazing appreciation for Wes Anderson's style of directing and his and Owen Wilsons writing. I can now say w/out a doubt that those two got fucked over at the Oscars. Gosford Park can lick my ass! R.T shoulda taken the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay. I'm also a bit shocked that both Gene Hackman and Luke Wilson were neglected. The academy has something against Wes.
Guest evenflowDDT Report post Posted July 11, 2002 It's out now? Damn... I thought it wasn't coming out 'til next week! How much does the Criterion edition run... is it the average Criterion price of $30+? If it is I might have to wait on it because (surprise!) I'm broke again

I'm broke again The Criterion edition is the only one available on DVD (isn't that awesome?), and I got mine at Circuit City for $17.99.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Report post Posted July 12, 2002 16.99 at Best Buy
Guest evenflowDDT Report post Posted July 12, 2002 OMG, a decent-priced Criterion Disc (actually their Chasing Amy disc is that cheap too... how do they decide that?). I need to pick this one up NOW! Seriously, I'll definitely try and pick it up sooner.
Guest C.H.U.D. Report post Posted July 13, 2002 I saw it at Wal Mart for $20.98 Canadian, which is like $13 U.S. Amazing for a Criterion disc.
Guest Karnage Report post Posted July 13, 2002 Yup, this is the cheapest Criterion disc so far. I saw it for 19.99 CAD. Usually Criterion discs are 30 and up. The Rock was 60 when I saw it!
Guest The Man in Blak Report post Posted July 13, 2002 Meh. I thought The Royal Tenenbaums was dull. Artistic and definitely thoughtful at times...but, above all things, dull.
Guest chirs3 Report post Posted July 13, 2002 Definitely one of the best movies of the year so far. Unfortunately, the DVD I rented was messed up, so I just went with good ole' VHS.
Guest King_TIL Report post Posted July 15, 2002 I didn't like it much after I saw it, but it has definitely grown on me. Not enough to buy the DVD yet (there's other stuff I want to get first), though. When I kept thinking about why I didn't like it, I kept realizing how funny it was. Guest C.H.U.D. Report post Posted July 15, 2002 I thought it clever, but not funny. The humour was very dry and witty, which I liked, but it wasn't "laugh out loud" funny. I like subtle humour, which is why I enjoyed Ghost World so much, even more than Tenenbaums.
