Will Vince re-sign Jericho?

Recommended Posts

Guest HartFan86

It's getting awfully close til Jericho's contract in August (I think, correct me I'm wrong) and I haven't heard any news in the Ross Report, Wrestling Observer, or anything else about the WWE re-signing Jericho. If Jericho doesn't re-sign, could it be possible he goes to NWA: TNA?

The only thing I see Jericho has that is going for him is money. Though his contract will probably stay the same (to balance the WWE budget), he's still getting a nice fat pay check. Other than that, he's been misused in the bookings during his reign as WWF Champion, gets jobbed out to the newcomers, and he's still HHH's personal bitch (my own personal opinion).

I would think if Jericho doesn't re-sign, he'll just quit wrestling and go to Hollywood. I see him acting in movies and on TV shows instead of going to NWA: TNA. I see him going to Japan, but there's not a lot of money there either.

Then again, Jericho may get re-signed tommorow and that ends this topic.

So what do you think will happen?

In my opinion, there is a 0% chance of him NOT re-signing Chris Jericho.

Yeh I think Jericho will definitely re-sign since Vince knows that he has cross-promotional appeal. And That's pretty imortant to WWE. Jericho has got the look.

Jericho isn't a fool, he knows where the money, fame, promotion, and his future is at, and that is WWE. As for what Vince will do, he is no fool either. He knows that Jericho is a shining star, and it's just a matter of time that they truly allow Y2J to "break down the walls".

Jericho is re-signing. I don't know that for sure, but the economics point to him staying. Even though he is being misused in the company, it is still the best company to make a payday and if your job is to take risks with your body, you take the paycheck. You don't want a Hayabusa situation on your hands and not be financially secure. Plus NWA-TNA is not a very secure situation. I've seen the first and third episodes and those guys will be lucky to be still running by the end of August.

It's actually quite funny how the big difference the hyphen makes (-) in this conversations.

What if Vince feels he has enough stars and he doesn't need Jericho and doesn't want to re-sign him? I know it sounds like a weird possiblity...but it's a possiblity.

Jericho will resign.

BUT they'll job him out to everyone (including Anglesault's boy toy Edge and ProtoSting) until he does, just in case.

Ya see?

Makes no sense without the forgotten hyphen!

It would be extremely foolish for Vince to NOT re-sign Jericho.

He'll probably low-ball him, knowing that even a slap in the face offer is still more then what anyone else can offer Jericho.

In his website sell for next week's Observer, Meltzer seems to imply that Jericho (without saying his name) will re-sign with the WWE and some details will be in the next Observer.

No matter how poorly he's been booked, he's still one of the WWE's biggest stars, one of their most durable stars and young enough to be a big star for at least the next 5 years. Regardless of how crazy things have gotten, I can't see Vince being stupid enough to hand Jericho over to the NWA.

That's the thing that's got me fooled. Jericho will probably be making the same amount, if not less money than what he was making when he first signed because Vince has no competition to keep away from (NWA: TNA...eh, Vince won't go out of his way to keep Jericho like he used to with WCW talent) and the fact Jericho's value is he even higher than it once was.

"He'll probably low-ball him, knowing that even a slap in the face offer is still more then what anyone else can offer Jericho."

That's the problem with the business when there is no competition. Vince can and will low ball everyone who's contract will come up cause in the end, where are you gonna go? Since he is the only show in town and nothing new on the horizon (sorry guys, NWA-TNA is doomed to fail) the wrestlers have no bargaining power. Only way they are going to be able to negotiate fairly with Vince is to get a union going and that is not going to happen anytime soon. So sad.

The sad part is a lot of people on the inside of the business have said if there was one person to have a head of the union, most people said the one person would be Kevin Nash.

Even though hated on this board, Nash sure knows how to work people to see things his way. But since he's good at that, maybe he is the right person for the job of leading a pro wrestling union.

Problem is, any wrestler who is a union member would be blacklisted by the E.

Not if many joined, in that case they would have no choice but to work with them.

Make no mistake about it: Jericho, despite his poor booking, is still a big name and a prime-time talent. The WWE doesn't want to lose him, and they won't. This is the lamest Internet rumor going.

No, that is when they start offering contracts and pushes to those who break the union and sign with them. There will always be a couple who will bite.

Jericho will re-sign, it's inevitable.

But i'll bet that Jarrett has still made a few phonecalls to the Irvine household in the last few weeks.

Vince didn't give him the first undisputed world title for nothing. He'll resign him

Yeah, notice how much they've been throwing around the "First Ever Undisputed Champion" line lately. They don't want him to go.

Yeah, the wrestling business DEFINATELY needs a union real fast.

You would think with the Bret screwjob, the Foley resigning, and the Austin departure that wrestlers might try and make a "Wrestler's Union" for the business. Perhaps the only reason there isn't a union is because Vince is an independent contractor and WWE isn't owned by any larger corporation (Titan Sports?).....

The problem with a lot of the big names organizing is that Vince may just hire a bunch of scrubs and promise a few big pushes to his remaining guys.

The NWA would get a lot more buys if they had Jericho on board, that's for sure. They would just have to buy some major advertising time.

If the NWA got Jericho and promoted the hell out of it I think it would buy them at least an extra 6 months before they would fold if they fold.

yes he will resign. this isnt even a question. jericho gets paid great money to work with the wwe, and all the hhh stuff is merely conjecture on our behalf. also, jericho is pretty much anti everything the nwa is right now, since he isnt a real southern boy, and i cannot see them being able to afford him.

also, if you were in jerichos position, what would you do? would it be:

a) take the secure, high profile, high paying job

B) leave said job in a) for an upstart promotion with a lower pay rate, and infinitely lower job security.

it doesnt take a genius to realise that 99.9% of the earth's population are gonna pick a). why should jericho be any different than the rest of us?

If Jericho resigns the first thing they need to do with him is give him a couple months off. A lot of damage has been done to his character and some time off would really help him and make him fresh again at the same time.

He's the 2nd best heel in the company right now, It would be foolish for them not to sign him, but if he's not resigned, competition with the NWA-TNA might actually be a possiblity.

But all signs point towards him being resigned, so i have no worries of the WWE monopoly coming to an end.
