HOLY CRAP !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I did not expect to hear a good Smashing Pumpkins song but oh my god this was not just good, IT WAS WONDERFUL and EASILY one of the best songs I have ever heard. One of those ones that give ya goosebumps ! It was just incredible. I plain do not like Billy's voice but the strings and the music went with it PERFECTLY ! What a song from the Pumpkins and I want to hear more of this from them !

Actually IMO, I found that song really weak though...even though it is a good song, it wasn't really a stand out song to me.

Glory fades. I can't think of too many musicians who have been consistently great for more than fifteen years. It's usually a lot less than that. Generally it's because they become either a.) old and unmotivated, or b.)rich and unmotivated. Or both.

 

I've always felt that the Pumpkins peaked with Siamese Dream, although Mellon Collie and Adore had their moments. I think the bad reviews for the latter and the rising tide of nu-metal ruined the band, though. Corgan tried to make them into a really arty Marilyn Manson and it just sucked ass.

The most tragic case of talent I can think of is Michael Jackson. I don't have any of his c-d's, but I was watching a show last night which showcased ALL his hits. And WOW. An amazing talent that somehow lost his mind...and godlike popularity he once had.

I remember when that double cd came out. I was ten, but damned if it didn't kick ass.

 

After that album, I thought the Pumpkins got very, very weird. Heh, maybe Corgan will make a comeback with his new band..which's name escapes me at the moment.

Pumpkins are one of my favorite bands....and I was quite upset to hear of their breakup.

 

Billys got himself a new band....Zwan....kicks seven different kinds of ass....bit softer than then the pumpkins. Check out the song 'Shining Path'

OK, "Tonight, Tonight" is one of my favorite songs and videos of all time, so I had to chime in with that. I have no idea why the song has enchanted me, and why it's so special that it can still enchant me, even after 6 years, but it's just perfect to me.

 

The video, which references/pays tribute to the great silent fantasy short "A Trip to the Moon", is fascinating in its now childish imagery, but, like the original film itself (made in something like 1902) is compelling for that reason. Sure, it's absurd, but it's fantastic and dreamy, a playful case of imagination gone wild. Whenever I watch the video I get a short sense of that... it makes me think I was a kid again, and had my imagination again.
