Great match on paper

Recommended Posts

Guest Trivia247

From WWF's Grudges Gripes & Grunts

The Main event

Macho Man & Bret Hart vs Ric Flair & Shawn Michaels

sounds good don't it?

Pick other matches outside of Wrestlemania or Major PPV events that also were great matches......on Paper.

Edit: Didn't realize the original meaning of the post.

I thought that tag match was good, though.

I would probably say Muta vs. Steve Austin @ Spring Stampede 1994. What a boring match.l

Does the match have to sound great and then suck or can it just sound great and be if great if so....

Ted DiBiase Vs Shawn Michaels(Sounded good on paper and the actual result was even better)

Ric Flair Vs Shawn Michaels(Sounded like a classic on paper but was a slight disapointment to me sure it was a great match but it was only 7 or 8 minutes)

The object is to find GOOD sounding matches that ended up POOR.

Benoit v. Angle, Ultimate Submission wasnt up to par.

the meaning of the Topic is....

What sounds good in Theory just when it happen just doesn't seem to be all that good that time it happen.

Imagine being warped back to 2000 and hearing that the main event for Wrestlemania 18 would be HHH vs. Jericho. Sounds like ***** to me...................... ha.

trips v. angle, unforgiven 2000

trips v. angle, no way out 2002

trips v. angle, raw cage match

austin v. benoit v. jericho, king of the ring 2001

austin v. jericho, no way out 2002

bret v. shawn, survivor series 1997 (i'm not just talking about the ending, that was not a very good match at all)

flair v. guerrero, king of the ring 2002

bret v. anybody in wcw who used to be good (sting, savage, hennig, etc.)

shawn v. owen, IYH 1996 (overrated match, doesn't flow that well, and should've been a ***** classic)

I really agree with these two. Austin/Jericho was ok (*** being generous) but it had no flow, WAY too many chops, and this was when Austin became unmotivated. However...

austin v. benoit v. jericho, king of the ring 2001

I thought this match was good, besides the crappy ending of course. In my opinion, it was about ***3/4 to ****, maybe a little higher.

Jericho/Benoit/Austin was awesome. You have to realize that Benoit had a fucked up neck, and he still pulled off the match. The thing bad about that match is the ending just came out of nowhere (Steve was legitally hurt, so that could be the explanation) and Jericho was sloppy as hell. I think if they gave a go at it again today (If Austin was still around), Benoit/Jericho could pull off an easy ***** and Austin can just play along.

there was nothing actively bad about austin/benoit/jericho (except the awkward lionsault), but it wasn't close to a standout match either. all the spots in themselves were fine, it's just that they weren't done in any meaningful order. the match, as a whole, had no flow at all. i tried to get into it, popping for near-falls & such, but it just wouldn't let me.

Sting Vs Jeff Jarrett, Halloween Havoc 2000 Sting may have not been what he used to be in October of 2000 but he could still go, if these two just like Scott Keith said were told just to go out there for 15 minutes and put on a good match I bet they would have hit ***-****. But alas WCW's bookers at the time didn't think so <_<

Mr. Perfect vs. HBK is the perfect example. Most Saturn/Jericho matches suck ass too. Austin/Jericho from No Way Out 2k2 sucked a BUTT as well.

Flair vs. Austin

I KNOW I wasn't the only one who had waited a damn decade to see it.

So I end up with a broken down old man vs. a broken down unmtivated middle aged man.

And it still wasn't as good as it should have been on paper.
