Guest Karnage Posted July 13, 2002 Report Posted July 13, 2002 Gotham is an imaginary city. I think Smallville is in Kansas, I'm not really sure. Where is Metropolis?
Guest KingOfOldSchool Posted July 13, 2002 Report Posted July 13, 2002 I always thought Gotham was in New York... It's never said? I've always been under the impression that Gotham refers to a section of NYC, or a nickname for NYC, in real life, that is. In the DC universe, it's probably Manhattan. I don't know if anyone knows, but a few years back in the comics, there was a storyline where Gotham was ravaged by an earthquake. Anyway, rather than the US government deal with the extent of the damage, they more or less declared it a "martial law" zone, and cut it off from the US. All the government did was blow up the sole access into the city, bridges and such. Which would lead one to the conclusion that Gotham, is in fact, an island. So, from there, one would think that Gotham is the DC equivalent to Manhattan. --- About the movie. I've always wanted to see something like this. But I believe that the producers, writers, directors and anyone else major involved, would screw it up beyond belief. Rather than see a major fuck-up ruin both franchises more, it ran through my mind that I would rather NOT see this come to life. But, just so it doesn't seem so unrealistic to anyone who doesn't know about comics, I'd avoid the gigantic fight scene between Batman/Superman. You know the casuals wouldn't buy Batman beating Superman, based on what the average person knows about them. Try and make it a thinking movie about how Batman's morals and approach come into play when compared to Superman's morals and approach.... even sometimes switching roles. Of course, you'd still have the comic elements with villains and everything. But have this edition centered around Batman/Superman trying to solve the crime, with a old noir feel, as opposed to busting shit up throughout the movie. By what I mean, is to have Batman as the "great detective", always picking his fights cautiously... Perhaps as Superman charges in and provides the pure muscle. But, I know this wouldn't work either, since the causal movie-goer would want to see a fight, and that they generally can't sit through a remotely-thoughtful movie with no big fight payoff. You can't please both sides, and plenty of people will come out disappointed, whichever way you go.
Guest KingOfOldSchool Posted July 13, 2002 Report Posted July 13, 2002 Gotham is an imaginary city. I think Smallville is in Kansas, I'm not really sure. Where is Metropolis? Smallville is in Kansas, true. Metropolis is referenced to being in Kansas, on Smallville (the tv show). I've always thought of Chicago to be the basis of Metropolis, with other influence from NYC. Though I don't know exactly where it's located in the DC world.
Guest GenerationNever Posted July 13, 2002 Report Posted July 13, 2002 Yes, but Gotham is amplied as being a city on the Atlantic coast. Also, New York has been mentioned in the DC comics by residents of Gotham.
Guest areacode212 Posted July 13, 2002 Report Posted July 13, 2002 In the DC universe, Gotham, Metropolis and New York all exist together. They've never said which states Gotham & Metropolis are in though. But in a sense, you're all right. A lot of comics writers & artists consider the two imaginary cities to each represent the different extremes of NYC; Gotham is the seedy, crime-infested half, and Metropolis is the happy, rich side with gleaming towers and nice neighborhoods.
Guest starvenger Posted July 13, 2002 Report Posted July 13, 2002 >Metropolis is referenced to being in Kansas, on Smallville (the tv show). I've always thought of Chicago to be the basis of Metropolis, with other influence from NYC. Though I don't know exactly where it's located in the DC world. Metropolis is based on Toronto, and Gotham is based on New York, so I'd guess that Metropolis is somewhere in upstate NY, while Gotham is adjacent to NYC...
Guest GenerationNever Posted July 13, 2002 Report Posted July 13, 2002 Let's see, Gotham is a city on the Atlantic, what States are on the Atlantic coast?
Guest EQ Posted July 14, 2002 Report Posted July 14, 2002 I was reading the NY Post the other day coming home from work... and they had a page about this movie... They had a fact sheet of sorts comparing Batman and Superman. Under weaknesses, they listed Superman: Kryptonite and Batman: Women. WOMEN?! Christ... what the fuck is wrong with these people?! How about guns? knives? hammers? clubs? a board with a nail in it? I mean... Batman can get a damn papercut for christ's sake! Ah... who cares... it's just the Post... ---- Anyway... I hate it how Batman always goes over Superman... Don't get me wrong... I like Batman (he's #3 on my fav's list), but without Kryptonite, Superman could just look at him funny and he'd die. I don't know why Superman has this reputation of being a dumb oaf, in everything I've seen, he's always been really intelligent. I'm not going to say more intelligent than Batman, but he's definately not stupid. He knows tons of shit. I hope this movie is taken seriously by the people making it... it will either be really awesome, or really bad.
Guest EQ Posted July 14, 2002 Report Posted July 14, 2002 Look... this proves the super-intellect... this is the first ever drawing of Superman by Joe Shuster (one of the 2 creators)
Guest franchise632 Posted July 14, 2002 Report Posted July 14, 2002 If its really gonna be Superman vs Batman my prediction would be: A DUSTY FINISH
Guest EQ Posted July 14, 2002 Report Posted July 14, 2002 It will probably be along the same lines as the Batman/Superman Movie (the really awesome cartoon from a few years ago)
Guest Renegade Posted July 14, 2002 Report Posted July 14, 2002 This just sounds like a bad bad idea. Any attempt of Batman beating Superman will just revolve around Kryptonite. Plus crossover films barely work anyway.
Guest El Satanico Posted July 17, 2002 Report Posted July 17, 2002 Well i hope it's more along the lines of the Superman/Batman combined cartoons then an actual Superman fighting Batman movie.
Guest EQ Posted July 17, 2002 Report Posted July 17, 2002 Well i hope it's more along the lines of the Superman/Batman combined cartoons then an actual Superman fighting Batman movie. Yeah... if you got a chance to see the Batman/Superman movie, they started out fighting in the beginning, but once they both realized that they needed each other's help to beat the combined team of Luthor and Joker, they reluctantly agreed to team up. Even then, they didn't like each other, but it made for great TV
Guest El Satanico Posted July 17, 2002 Report Posted July 17, 2002 Yeah, if it was like that it could actually be a good movie. A movie about them just flat out fighting each other unless written well with a great plot wouldn't be that great
Guest Prototype450 Posted July 17, 2002 Report Posted July 17, 2002 Batman will always beat Superman. If you look at the cartoon Batman had a stockpile of Kryptonite in case Supes went off the deep end
Guest Jerome Drake Posted July 17, 2002 Report Posted July 17, 2002 I heard that Christian Bale will play Batman.
Guest Prototype450 Posted July 18, 2002 Report Posted July 18, 2002 A british guy playing all american batman never
Guest evenflowDDT Posted July 18, 2002 Report Posted July 18, 2002 This to me seems about as likely as the endless "Freddy vs. Jason" rumors or "Aliens vs. Predator"... Well,Freddy.Vs.Jason-is-being-made-for-it-has-a-Director and-production-start-dates. The-last-I-knew-about-the-Alien.Vs.Predator-it-was-dead. Yea, but Freddy vs. Jason has had so many directors, scripts, and production start dates that I doubt it'll ever happen. I hope this Batman vs. Superman flick ends the same way. Can anyone name a "vs" flick that was any good? I hope the oft-delayed Puppetmaster vs. Demonic Toys will be watchable, but hell, if Godzilla vs. King Kong can suck, and those guys reputations are BUILT on "vs" flicks, I have no hope for anyone else. Also, I heard that in the Japanese version of Godzilla vs. King Kong the ending is slightly altered to make it clear the Godzilla is still alive. So, who's to say if the ending to Batman vs. Superman doesn't go "right" we won't hear of a little snipping by the DC bookers?
Guest 4Life Posted July 19, 2002 Report Posted July 19, 2002 How would that even make a decent movie? Batman is barely a "superhero", he is just a hero. Superman has super strength for crying out loud, and Batman is just a fit human. Superman can fly without special gadgets. Batman relies on technology to fight, Superman has every weapon he needs in his own body. Don't get me wrong, I hate both of them, but Superman would ownj Batman. How can you love Superman? He's just plain boring. Batman kicks ass and will rule Superman in the end. I wonder if Paul Heyman is going to be involved in this?
Guest El Satanico Posted July 19, 2002 Report Posted July 19, 2002 Can anyone name a "vs" flick that was any good? Godzilla Vs Mothra Godzilla Vs. Monster Zero Godzilla vs. Destoroyah
Guest Vern Gagne Posted July 19, 2002 Report Posted July 19, 2002 What about making Superman the heel in the movie.
Guest Down Below Posted July 20, 2002 Report Posted July 20, 2002 If its really gonna be Superman vs Batman my prediction would be: A DUSTY FINISH Don't forget the NWO run-in?
