DVD Website Controversy

Recommended Posts

Guest Crazedog55

I'm going to give you guys a link and also show the two reviews.  Now you tell me that DVD Verdict doesn't blantantly steal others reviews.

From the DVD Verdict review of House Party 3 (http://www.dvdverdict.com/reviews/houseparty3.shtml):

"Opening Statement

House Party 3, the last in the House Party trilogy, has made a smoldering wreck of the original movie's premise and promise. Thoroughly idiotic, offensive to all higher aspects of human brain functions, and never funny, House Party 3 brings rappers Kid 'n Play back to the screen as buddies who want to party, but who can't seem to keep out of trouble with various hustlers, insane relatives, sexy ladies and authority figures. The pretext for this piece of utter tripe is a bachelor party for Kid (Christopher Reid), who's about to get married so we have an excuse for another big party. New Line does their usual fine job on a standard disc that this time is thankfully nearly free of extras."

From January 12, 1994 Washington Post review from David Mills (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/style/longterm/movies/videos/houseparty3rmills_a09e28.htm)

"House Party," Reginald Hudlin's 1990 original, was an unusual kind of movie -- an African American youth comedy with a down-home funky sensibility and yet an overarching humanity and intelligence. It was one of a handful of features since the emergence of Spike Lee to generate big hopes about a black commercial film movement in this decade. "House Party 3," the second sequel done without Hudlin's input, has made a smoldering wreck of the man's premise -- and the original movie's promise.

Thoroughly idiotic, offensive to all higher aspects of human consciousness, and rarely funny, "House Party 3" brings rappers Kid 'N Play back to the screen as buddies who just loooove to party, but who can't seem to keep out of trouble with various hustlers, nutty relatives, sexy ladies and authority figures. The pretext for "3" is a bachelor party for Kid (Christopher Reid), who's about to get married so as to provide a pretext for the pretext."

Looks like the DVD Judge is guilty.

What controversy?  "Controversy" implies that people are arguing over it, and that there are enough supporters of both sides that it's an ongoing issue.  Since this is the first time I've even heard of this site, and it appears to be cut-&-dried plagarism, that doesn't quite seem to be the case.

Oh, and a website STOLE some of it's material?  I'm shocked, SHOCKED I tell ya.  (Although in this case it does seem more blatant than usual.)  Just put it on the Idiots List, #398345783.
