Oh yeah... big surprise ! the same old thing, only with a new cool graphism. and what about the headlines not updated for more than 2 weeks ???

My only problem is there are no archives. Anything posted 7 days or older is no longer availble. That really sucks in the case of Scott and Justin's reviews and the columns. If they would add that, it would a pretty cool site.

Guest admin Posted February 19, 2002 Report Posted February 19, 2002 Ok, 1st the new system on the website is much cleaner and faster in the background. 2nd this IS NOT THE NEW BOARD!!! its on a temp server thats not made to handle this much trafic. Once we find a server to move it to, then complain!!! Anyone have one? my sources are dry right now. It needs to be a dedicated server w/ Terminal services to it. running Windows 2000 server or better.

I think the new smarks WILL be much better than the old, but only when some very necessary functions are brought in.

The new site is a joke, we all know that, but don't try telling that to the people who run it. They'll just get all pissy with their attitudes and be like, "Go somewhere else if you don't like it!" The funny thing is, we wouldn't be bitching about it so much if they hadn't hyped it up so much. When you've got people like Jeremy Botter bragging about how cool and super awesome and radical the new site is going to be and how new features are going to be coming out of the wazoo, and then the site debuts and it is actually WORSE than the old one what with there being no archives and the headlines don't get updated for weeks because the only guy who can do it is our touring with Matchbox 20, well gee, I think people are gonna bitch. Hope everybody liked that Meltzerish run-on sentence, BTW. The thing is, if you say the new site isn't gonna be all that great and then it debuts and it sucks, well, that's one thing. But if you tell us over and over how freaking great it's gonna be and then it sucks, then you're going to have problems. Can anybody say Emzee? This site is becoming the biggest clusterfuck since the dying days of WCW. I'm really embarrassed for the people involved. Botter and Keith have lways been first class jackasses, but Becker seems pretty smart and down to earth, but he looks bad being associated with this mess. Scotsman and Justin seem like cool cats, but they must be getting tired of sticking up for something that is starting to suck more and more by the week. (Of course they'll probably rip me a new asshole for saying that, but whatever.) I have no freaking idea who anybody else on the site is. Here's an idea. Let that fucking lunatic Judas run the site for a couple weeks. I bet it would go a lot smoother.

My only problem is that the main page is running so goddamn slow. I have a pretty new, fast computer and a cable modem and the site takes about 5 minutes to load. I don't have any problem loading the board though.

Why they were "hacked" they really had updates every day or so, but pre and post hackmaster they updates are F'ed. And about the sometime quick sometime slow, I think is because sometimes they use the mirror site (quick) and sometimes the return to his regular site. But still, is better than OnlineOnslaught.
Guest admin Posted February 21, 2002 Report Posted February 21, 2002 Our site stays on the same server. it doesn't move enless the ISP is having problems. 2nd the speed it related due to the number of people currently in the site searching and browesing. the new archeitecture of the site is supported by ASP n SQL which uses the CPU quite a bit.

I'am also looking at moving thesmarks.com server to a different T-1 @ our same ISp , b/c right now we are sharing one.
