Guest oldschoolwrestling Posted July 12, 2002 Report Posted July 12, 2002 From 411wrestling: On July 27th AJ Styles will defend the NWA TNA X title on the Ring Of Honor show in an elimination three-way dance vs. challengers David Young and "All That" Adam Jacobs. This will mark the first time the NWA TNA X championship is defended outside of NWA TNA's weekly Wednesday night PPVs. Of course, this will only be a X title match if AJ Styles is still champion on July 27th. The NWA TNA X division has earned rave reviews and become the talk of the internet. ROH is very proud to have the first ever defense of the belt outside of a NWA TNA PPV.
Guest RetroRob215 Posted July 12, 2002 Report Posted July 12, 2002 I think this a very good idea. Both the NWA and ROH could use as much cross-promotion publicity as possible. Plus the NWA could use as much exposure in the "Great White North" as they can get.
Guest oldschoolwrestling Posted July 12, 2002 Report Posted July 12, 2002 Hopefully that will lead some ROH people to start showing up on the TNA PPV's.
Guest The Son of Sting Posted July 12, 2002 Report Posted July 12, 2002 This is a good idea, makes the belt seem important having him defend it in a other company. Maybe get Styles to defend the belt overseas as well.
Guest Nezbyte Posted July 12, 2002 Report Posted July 12, 2002 Too bad this damn near garuntees a win for Styles. Not that im knocking him though, just saying.
Guest TheDames7 Posted July 12, 2002 Report Posted July 12, 2002 This might also give a bump to ROH tape sales...great. At 25 a tape, RF makes more money...bastard. Dames
Guest converge241 Posted July 12, 2002 Report Posted July 12, 2002 They could do a title change just for that reason (nobody expecting it) then do the rematch on the next weds. Im not saying it would definetley happen , just a chance
Guest RetroRob215 Posted July 12, 2002 Report Posted July 12, 2002 Wasn't AJ supposed to fight Low-Ki for the title next week? If so, I guess the result of that match is out of the bag.
Guest hardyz1 Posted July 12, 2002 Report Posted July 12, 2002 Wasn't AJ supposed to fight Low-Ki for the title next week? If so, I guess the result of that match is out of the bag. Well, they did say this in the press release: Of course, this will only be a X title match if AJ Styles is still champion on July 27th.
Guest TheDames7 Posted July 13, 2002 Report Posted July 13, 2002 Then again, fellas....Low-Ki wrestles for RoH as well, so does Chris Daniels so technically if any of them win it, it may be defended at RoH. Dames
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted July 13, 2002 Report Posted July 13, 2002 I think this is a good idea...when you look at the X division and the ROH...you see some striking roster and match similarities. Both promotions audiences could grow as a result. And like someone said...it only makes the title feel more important...like bringing in a guy from NOAH to compete for the world title.
Guest Dangerous A Posted July 13, 2002 Report Posted July 13, 2002 I'm in total agreement, bps. But for the X-division/ROH wrestlers to get over as money players they need a) a push like they are getting like being placed at the end of shows. B) re-educate the audience into accepting smaller wrestlers who can do more things in the ring as opposed to the land of the giants style(WWE)
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted July 13, 2002 Report Posted July 13, 2002 You are right there. I think Jerry knows it too. THe X-division is the one thing he can do...that the WWE can't. Then again...ECW made a living doing something that the WWE later turned into a billion dollar enterprise with "Attitude" I get the same feeling about this. If nothing else, when all is said and done...TNA may be remembered for spawning the acceptance of smaller, better wrestlers in the WWE...like ECW did for Attitude. It's something that Vince should consider...given his bad ratings and attendance. He still has the ace in the whole...he is the biggest "small man" star in the world, who is ready to be accepted as a top guy, sitting on his roster in RVD.
Guest Dangerous A Posted July 13, 2002 Report Posted July 13, 2002 Do you think that Vince is trying to counter the X-Division with a Rey Mysterio led cruiser division? Maybe that's why Rey is getting the star push with the "He's coming" clips and what not.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted July 13, 2002 Report Posted July 13, 2002 It's possible. Misterio brings more star power than the division ever has. But then what? Kidman and Tajiri are popular... Noble not so much...Hurricane doesn't really even look like a cruiser. And with the politics and such...cruisers will never get a fair shake on tv or ppv. They are like the womens division...1 match a show. 1 storyline.
Guest Dangerous A Posted July 13, 2002 Report Posted July 13, 2002 True, true. Plus Vince's track record has shown Zero success with cruisers. Is it just me, or is Vince the only person that runs a major wrestling organization that has not figured out how to get cruisers over?
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted July 13, 2002 Report Posted July 13, 2002 He doesn't think that their "different" styles will get over (which has been proven wrong by Tajiri and RVD) And he doesn't think they can draw anything. The last part is something that the NWA TNA is trying to prove wrong.
Guest Dangerous A Posted July 13, 2002 Report Posted July 13, 2002 "The last part is something that the NWA TNA is trying to prove wrong. " And hopefully the thing that lets them actually become viable competition. (crosses fingers)
Guest Jobber of the Week Posted July 13, 2002 Report Posted July 13, 2002 And with the politics and such...cruisers will never get a fair shake on tv or ppv. Hehehe. WCW was a far worse political minefield than WWE ever has been. Don't ever doubt that.
