Guest TheDames7 Report post Posted July 13, 2002 Creating an entire thread just to bash a baseball team. How, childish. Yankees fans have no class. Hey! I have tons of class! Besides, I think this is just a topic to piss off Some Guy....which kind of constitutes flame-baiting. Shaved Bear....watch it! Dames

Guest treble charged Report post Posted July 13, 2002 The main reason I bought a Mets' hat was to break the mold. Everyone else you see wears Yankee hats (or those stupid ones with the Japanese writing), and I felt the need to throw my support behind the only NY area baseball team with intelligent, non-moronic fans. Guest MrRant Report post Posted July 13, 2002 Have you met any Yankee fans lately? Like Jerome from the Bronx that always calls like JT The Brick?
Guest TheDames7 Report post Posted July 13, 2002 I'm sorry, it must be my Yankee fan-intellect, what do you mean by that last part? Dames
Guest treble charged Report post Posted July 13, 2002 Ok, this is the story behind my hat: 'Tis the Summer of 2000, and all is well in the baseball world. The city of New York is all abuzz for the much anticipated doubleheader taking place in both Shea and Yankee Stadiums. I was able to pick up WFAN during the night hours, and would listen to caller after caller talk about how excited they were. Anyway, we all know what happens, as Roger Clemens throws at Mike Piazza's head, blah, blah, blah. That night, I listened to WFAN, and there were people who were actually CONDONING what Clemens did! I couldn't believe it! Now, Clemens wasn't exactly high on my list of favourite people in the world (after what he did to the Blue Jays), and this pushed me over the edge. For the rest of the baseball year, I was a Mets' mark, and was I sure pissed when they lost the Subway Series. And that, boys and girls, is why I have a Mets' hat. Guest treble charged Report post Posted July 13, 2002 I should point out, however, that not every Yankee fan is a moron. Dames, for example, seems to be quite intelligent, despite his choice of favourite baseball teams.
Guest MrRant Report post Posted July 13, 2002 This fucktard from the Bronx always calls radio shows and screams and hollers when the Yankees lose or make a trade. Just a irritating little fuck.
Guest treble charged Report post Posted July 13, 2002 Has anyone who listens to WFAN ever heard of Doris, The old lady that has spawned impostors?
Guest MrRant Report post Posted July 13, 2002 I've heard her once or twice.
Guest TheDames7 Report post Posted July 13, 2002 I used to listen to WFAN all the time, but I can't now that I don't get any radio reception here in the hole. I've been a Yankees fan for years, out of loyalty to my father who was a Yankees fan since the 70's. Seeing as how I grew up in the 80's when the Yankees sucked and only had Don Mattingly, I've gone through my fair share of SHITTY seasons while the Mets were World Series champs and perennial playoff contenders. Then 1994 came, we were doing SO well with Buck at the helm and the f'n Strike killed baseball and our World Series win which was ours for the taking. This was before all that wild card shit too *Playoff extension*, whatever. Then, in '95, my favorite baseball player of all time, Don Mattingly, had his last chance for The Ring and it was taken from us by Seattle.... I'll never forget Griffey rounding third....I was heartbroken. So, since '96 til now, I've been vindicated and I'm on top of the world....except its true what everyone says. Once you're on the top, everyone's trying to take you down. Dames

I can remember being at my Grandpa's house and everyone cheering. It was a great series. I can still see Edgar's hit to the left field. By the way... Edgar Martinez is one of the MOST underated guys in baseball.

Guest Some Guy Report post Posted July 13, 2002 Well I'm honored, I suppose. We are some what bitter, but wouldn't you be if your team had such bad luck and bad managment for decades? Right now I'm bitter that our 11 game win streak over TO is over. As for this year's team. They are light years better than last year. Speed, defense, good pitching beyond the #1? This is not your father's Red Sox team. Harry Hooper holds the team record for steals at 303, for a career. Rickey Henderson used to steal that many bases on a off week. Now we have Johnny Damon, Nomar, Manny, Shea, Pedro, Varitek, Sanchez, Lowe, Burkett, Urbina, and Alan Embry all heathy and producing. What we need to compete with NY in the playoffs is Jim Thome. Our 1B are not producing at all. He is the big deal we need to make. Chuck Finely (Yankee killer) would be a good pick up as well. BTW in 94 the Expos were the best in Baseball, not the Yanks. Pedro, Walker, Alou, Lancing, Rondell White, etc... out classed who the Yanks had.
Guest Shaved Bear Report post Posted July 13, 2002 you dont understand, every year in August the Red Sox are contenders, until they do something to mess it all up like last year they fired their coach...that could of waitied till the end of the year
Guest alkeiper Report post Posted July 13, 2002 I think last year's collapse had more to do with missing Jason Varitek, Nomar Garciaparra and Pedro Martinez all at the same time. As for the Red Sox choking..... 1967- won last two games of the season to win the pennant by a single game. Carl Yastrzemski ties second game with a key hit in the 8th. A loss in either game would've cost them the pennant. 1975- Came back from 3 runs down in 8th inning of game 6 to win. Took one of the best teams of all time the distance. 1986- Maybe they lost to the Mets, but the Sox were one strike away from elimination in the ALCS, then came back to take 3 straight to beat the Angels. Is that choking? 1999- Beat the Indians in 3 straight in convincing fashion after losing the first two games. Do they lose big games? Yeah, but they've won their share too.
