Top 3 songs for Memories

Recommended Posts

Guest MrRant

What are your top 3 songs that bring back memories? They don't have to be attached to a specific event but just seem to fit. If you don't have 3 then list what you have... but if you have like 32... keep it short ok?

My 3 in no particular order:

1. Tuesday's Gone - Lynryrd Skynryd. I think the BEST song to fit any memories you may have. From playing catch in the yard with dad to remembering a camping trip with friends when you were a kid.

2. November Rain - Guns 'N Roses. I love this song. Makes me think of past g/f's and the woman I am with now.

3. Patience - Guns 'N Roses. Yeah so I'm a GNR mark. I wish this song got more popular because its great IMHO. Great song that I remember just listening to while kicking back and of breakups.

1. Forever Loving You - Julian Austin. The first song that I danced to with my finacee. It's gonna be our first dance song at our wedding, nuff said.

2. One - U2. My best friend was a huge U2 fan and she died right around when this song was released. I heard it probably 100 times during that mourning period and I always think of her when I hear the song now.

3. Grace, Too - The Tragically Hip. I didn't like this song when it first came out because it was an entirely new direction for my favorite band. Then I heard them play it in concert and it was just awesome. The crowd was totally into it and it was a great experience, I've loved the song ever since.

Green Day - "Good Riddance"

It was played in the gym at the end of 8th grade, because we were all leaving middle school. While many people were crying because they were leaving friends that weren't going to the school they were going to, or just because they were leaving PERIOD, me and my buddies Seanzy and Twiggz and Pinx all smiled, laughed, and celebrated leaving that piece of shit school.

"Amazing Grace"

My great-grandmother Una's favorite song. I was really close to her until she died in 1996, so it's personal. Whenever I hear ANY version of it, especially if played on the bagpipes, I remember her.

Lynyrd Skynyrd - "Tuesday's Gone"

Can be put to ANY memory, as MrRant said.

'Underground' - Ben Folds Five

Reminds me of the 'alternative' club which changed my life for the better, and that I've been going to for years. Has great lyrics and a great tune - "officer friendly's little boy has a mohawk and knows just where we're coming from"

'Why Bother' - Weezer

Reminds me of the whole period after my first two disasterous relationships and the latest successful one. A very strange period of my life, but one that i need reminding of often.

'Wouldn't it be Nice' - Beach Boys

reminds me of my current girlfriend more than any other song, I can always listen to this when im down and be happy again just like that. Not that im down much that is :)

WEEZER - Don't Let Go

Reminds me of my relationship with my ex, Angie. We fought too much and after I broke up with her, she wrote shit on my locker and on desks. Can we say unstable? Anyway, this was our song.

*N SYNC - God Must Have Spent A Little More Time on You

Shitty song, I know. But it was an ex girlfriend (Autumn) and mine's song. This was our first ever slow dance... it was at our 8th grade farewell. We ended up going out for nearly two years.

JIMMY EAT WORLD - Sweetness

Ahh, this song messed with my head for far too long. This song reminds me of my current girlfriend Nicole... here's the short version. We went to the movies... didn't go so great... played this song on the ride home... she later told me we should just be friends... (sorry really fits for that part of the story!!!)... then she told me she wanted another chance, I gave it to her... started going out... never been happier with another girl.

Those are the main three... here are more:

DEADSY - Key To Gramercy Park

This song reminds me of the late-night trips a friend and I take to the local elementary school to play basketball.

GOOD CHARLOTTE - Waldorfworldwide ... DYNAMITE HACK - Wussypuff

Two more of Autumn and mine's songs.

Props to MrRant... pimp idea for a topic.

Love,

Sebastian the Bastard

I've only got two. Sorry.

1) 'Iris' by the Goo Goo Dolls. When I was in my girlfriend's car, and I asked her to come to Canada with me and she said yes, this was playing on the radio. Quite a good track at the time to be playing as well.

AND

2) 'SpaceMan' by Babylon Zoo. It just reminds me of when I was about 10/11, probably the last time I didn't experience some sort of pressure, and I could just enjoy myself.

I forgot one:

Rocket Man - Elton John, something about it just makes me think of days gone by. I can listen to it over and over.

Tears In Heaven - Eric Clapton, one of the few songs that really touch me. If something sad happens and this song starts... its like automatic breakdown.

Love you to Death-Type O Negative. Was playing the first time I ever got laid. October Rust by Type O is the best sex CD in the universe.

Opiate-Tool. I saw tool live once, and people were burning shit. during this song, I decided to jump over a raging bonfire and lost much of the hair on my legs. (it has since grown back)

Man, I got WAY MORE than 3, but I'll try to condense.

1-Spiders, System of a Down. I met my ex-girlfriend (April) at a Halloween party, with this song playing. Not only is it good for that reason, but it's their best song IMO.

2-Right here in my Arms "H.I.M." Lyrics:

She is smiling like heaven is down on earth

The sun is shining so bright on her

All her wishes have finally come true

Her heart is weeping. Happiness is killing her.

She'll be right here in my arms

So in Love

She'll be right here in these arms

She can't let go

So hard she's trying

But her heart won't turn to stone...oh no

She keeps on crying

But I won't leave her alone

She'll never be alone

Not as well known, but still good. Short, and rather sad story. My girlfriend (at the time) was on her way back to her house from mine, went down some side streets, and she got hit head on by a FUCKING drunk driver. They got her to a hospital, and DOA. I have the song on a burned CD, and actually used a few of our videos that we made (not that kind, you freaks) to make a sort of video tribute to April. I can't bring myself to watch it, as just typing this makes me cry goddammit. She was my first girlfriend, and the girl I lost my virginity to. We dated for almost 2 years. Don't drink and drive. Also could be used for this one, "Down in a Hole" Alice in Chains. I listened to "Down in a Hole" for about 4 days after the accident, almost nonstop.

3-"Boys of Summer" Don Henley. The song playing on the radio the day I went to my only Red Sox game with my father.

"Mad props," bleedthesKY (my fellow Reveille fan, maybe?), for the "HIM" lyrics and their meaning. I was getting teary-eyed, as I always do, when "Amazing Grace" is played ANYWHERE.

I cannot possibly put into words just how much I hate that song. I don't think there's a word in the English language that can quite sum it up. Another song that brings back memories for me is Slit your Guts by Cryptopsy, I almost lost a finger while listening to that song and playing with fireworks. Burned the shit out of myself anyway.. I listened to "Sentenced to Burn" by Cannibal Corpse immediately afterwards in honor of my injury.

"By Your Side" by Sade- Just chills me out, plus they were playing it non-stop the day my cat died a couple of years ago and it had me crying (I'm not usually that sentimental about pets dying, but I had my cat for most of my life, and it messed me up when she died)

"Missing You" by Puff and Faith- Not because of Big, but it reminds me of this girl I had a thing for. I think of her everytime I hear it...

That's about it.

Man, the Puff Daddy version of that song makes me quiver with anger. The fact that he ruined a perfectly good song, by, IMO, a perfectly good band, makes me sick. Write your own fucking material!

Oh, and hell yeah I am a Reveille fan. I went to school with Drew (the lead singer) only for about 5 or 6 months (high school), before I moved. Very nice guys, I saw them in Miami, and talked to them a little after the show (I swear). Good times.

I listened to "bleedthesKY" last night, went I went to sleep. Go get the CD people!! Best track: "Farewell Fixx"

I actually heard an excellent version of "Missing You" with Puff Daddy and Sting. I can't remember exactly how it was but basically, Sting handled the chorus and stayed with the original "breath you take" lyrics, and Puffy did the rap parts as usual. It was a really awesome mix and was the first time that I actually liked the song. I just wish it was released, I think it was just a special live performance for the grammys or another award show.
