Taking Back Sunday Jimmy Eat World (older stuff was more emo) Finch (hard rock or emocore? Who knows?) Get Up Kids Juliana Theory Saves the Day (emo or punk?) Cursive (emo or punk?) Apart from those bands mentioned - check out bands like Fugazi, Embrace, Dag Nasty, Rites of Spring, Rival Schools, Texas is the Reason, Sunny Day Real Estate, Jets to Brazil, BurningAirlines, Hot Water Music, etc- and basically anything on the Drive-Thru, Victory and Vagrant record labels. Cursive- i feel r emo, in an atdi style - more trad post-hardcore. Ataris - More pop-punk i feel, but on that borderline newly occupied by NFG, etc, Save's the Day probably fall into this category, but are more emo-ey then the rest. Finch - Are probably 'emocore' (sounds like a type of paint stripper) - a poppier deftines/glassjaw fusion. And Thursda and TBS, quite frankly ROCK, no matter what genre you call them. I personally think TBS is one of the best bands... ever. Very, very strong debut album. I can't wait for another one... same goes for Thursday. Anyway Emo strated off as nickname for D.C. hardcore punk bands like Rites of Spring and Dag Nasty, that went against the straight edge, angry/depressed, or political norm of the genre at the time. Mostly hardcore punk bands that wrote songs about relationships, love, and all that. Than in the early 90s for some reason, Emo started being used to label postpunk bands like Fugazi, Avail, Hot Water Music, and even noise bands like Unsane(WTF?). Than in the mid 90s Emo finally became identified with a recognizable sound with slow post popunk like Sunny Day Real Estate, Mineral, (early) Jimmy Eat World, and Jets to Brazil. But this wouldn't last as the media got hold of the term. Suddenly poppunk and straight up poprock bands were being labeled emo left and right. Completely killing the subgenre's credability and confusing casual fans. So I say kill the term, which was pointless to begin with, and end the confusion.
