Didn't the first Raw after Survivor Series '97 go off the air before the main event actually ended?

I'm not sure about this, but I don't think so. I remember Shamrock making HHH tap and getting jumped by DX. My tape from that Raw ran out after the DX promo, and the 2nd part is on another tape somewhere and I haven't seen it in a few years, so I'm not sure. I do remember Mr. Perfect wrestling someone (Skinner?) back in 93 and the show went off the air right at the top of the match. Perfect was my favorite wrestler at the time, and I was pissed.

That happened all the time on the CWA and USWA shows that were broadcasted out of the Channel 5 studio in Memphis. Lance Russel: "Fans, we're out of time, join us again next week!"

Actually, that may have been Undertaker and Skinner that went off the air right at the start of the match. If I remember right, they promised to show the entire match either the next week or on the weekend shows...but I don't actually remember them showing it (was it THAT bad?).

The Perfect match I'm thinking about was against Rick Martel. They went to commercial break and Perfect beat him with the Perfect Plex during the break, which I was kinda pissed about because it was an ok match. But Perfect won so...

On the February 4th, 1988 edition of WWF Main Event (the one where Andre beat Hogan for the title) they went off the air about 15 seconds into a Hart Foundation vs. Strike Force tag match. I wasn't too happy about that.

I remember the Raw...it was like 2 weeks after Survivor Series or something, and Shamrock was wrestling HHH, Shamrock was being pinned after something and the ref got to 2 and the show went off the air.

On Superstars, they showed the footage of it and Sgt. Slaughter stopped the ref cause I think HBK interfered or something, Shamrock then rolled up HBK (why?) and pinned him for the 3.

Don't ask me why I remember that...I just do.

The Sting/Hogan debacle the night after Starrcade 1997, although I think that was intentional, as was the Hogan/Giant (from the SuperDome) match to make room for Robin Hood. How many ppvs did he main event? He must of been bumped for Leno.

I don't get what you are trying to imply there.

It used to happen all the time in the old WCW/NWA/Jim Crockett Promotions/whatever the hell you want to call it. And they never would show you the end of the match.

Matches going off the air was something that was a common occurance back in the days of the territories as a way to keep people watching each week. It continued to happen all the way up until the Vince Russo "crash tv" era. Mostly you would find it on Nitro where the show would be over at a cliffhanger of a point, like Sting coming down from the rafters or something like that.

i haven't seen any matches that were cut off due to nitro or raw ending. i remember at halloween havoc 1998 I think the wcw cut off the PPV way too early, in the middle of ddp/goldberg i think and then they had to show it for free the next night on nitro.

the crash tv booking is all about action right up till the end of the show, but usually the matches are way over by then. it's usually a beatdown or a speech that will close out the shows.

It was my understanding that the PPV providers, not WCW, cut the Havoc feed right at the 3-hour mark, as I remember that some people were able to see the match on PPV when their cable providers kept airing the feed beyond 3 hours.

did that ppv actually go over three hours though? and usually live ppv's are booked for 3.5 to 5 hours each.

all pay per view have trouble breaking the 2.5 hours mark.

Bischoff didn't get the extra time cleared until the last minute. Most cable companies didn't know about it and cut the show off early. I believe Bischoff did this on purpose so he could show the DDP-Goldberg match on Nitro the next night for a desperation ratings win (and it was the last time Nitro beat Raw).

so how long did halloween havoc actually last then?

wrestlemania 4 and 16 were the only ones that I know that have ran over the three hour limit.

It went about 3hrs. and 20-25 minutes.

Those Wrestlemania's were supposed to be that long and the cable companies knew months before to set aside the time. I remember seeing it in my cable company's channel guide.

It was. I think that's the giveaway that Bischoff did it on purpose. There were a ton of interviews (when they hardly have any on ppv anymore), three of four matches involving guys that nobody cared about and who usually never wrestled on ppv (like Jerry Flynn and Van Hammer), and a couple of Nitro Girls dance numbers.

Actually, Halloween Havoc 1998 cut out during Hogan/Warrior II, and I guess that was it for most people. My cable company hooked it right back up after the Hogan/Warrior match was over, and I was able to watch the full DDP/Goldberg bout (Goldberg's best match to date).

I remember the triple-h-shamrock match where rude interfered and the show ended with triple h pedigreeing shamrock on rude's briefcase.

I think they were doing that for your own good. You might not be here today if you were forced to see the whole thing.

Goldust vs. Savio Vega on a 1996 RAW ended during the commercial break, and I was like"What happened". It was for the IC title too (after it was held up due to controversy)
