Does Lucha have a big following?

Does Lucha Libre have as large a cult following in the US as puro does? I know the DVDVR guys are huge lucha fans and rate luchadors highly in their lists, but otherwise I don't really see any indication that lucha appeals to many US wrestling fans.

The reason I'm asking this is that a big crowing point of the small indy I work for is that it imports luchadors (not well-knowns one, pretty much lucha curtain jerkers and jobbers) and gives them North American exposure. When we eventually sell tapes of the episodes, we're hoping the presence of lucha will attract the "smarter" customers.

did any of the Luchadores you work with come from AAA or CMLL or Tijuana? Can you give names?

I think the fans of Lucha Libre are people who live near it or get it on cable. I live very close to Mexico and it seems that I am the only Lucha Libre mark among my friends, and I only lived in Texas for 10 years while they been here forever. But when AAA held a show over here a couple of years ago, people from college towns as far as 150 miles away came to see it.

I think lucha has a pretty good following just significantly less than puro does. I watched puro for a year before I got my first lucha tape.

Personally, I think Lucha would appeal to more people than Puro does, simply based on the fact that Lucha is more spotty than most Puro, and I know highspots get over more than psychology in the US.

I watched Lucha libre way before I started watching Puro. I got into Puro around 1998 and got into Lucha Libre in 1996.

I live in Austin, Texas and several of my friends are familiar with Lucha. I'm still getting into it, but I do like La Parka and the comedy matches in Lucha. Plus they use midgets. How can you say no to midgets?

I'm a big fan of lucha libre, particularly Juvi and La Parka, but face it, they can't compare to TEST~!

The names of the Lucha workers we brought up are Cyrus, Alma India, and two women name Silent Angel and Medusa (I think.) They work out of Tijuana. Out of all of them, Cyrus is the only one who is any good.

I've seen quite a bit of lucha, and I've never heard of any of them, so I doubt you will either.

I think the location really affects the fanbase for lucha. I know the borderlands have pretty strong lucha followings. living in san antonio, several of my friends actually grew up watching lucha prior to the wwf or wcw.

as for puro being more popular than lucha, as far as the net goes, puro just seems more accessible. There are literally hundreds of puro shows available on a multitude of sites. For lucha, I have only been able to pick up AAA When Worlds Collide and a few of the CMLL ppvs from 2000-2001 with ease. Everything else I have obtained was filmed on a shitty handheld or has questionable quality.

as for access to Lucha, a few years ago Wal Mart was selling tapes called Lucha Espectacular at $9.95 a piece, I have vol 2 which features a tour to Japan......Mike Awesome, Konnan, Rey Misterio Sr is on it with masks!!! :)

As for the guys working in Shooter Jay's company, I have never heard of them but I know little about Lucha, so they could be somebody.
