Guest M Nyland Posted July 15, 2002 Report Posted July 15, 2002 I was thinking that...since I don't believe this has ever been done....I want someone to name a cartoon and why they like/liked it... it can be new or old but you can not repeat one...though you may add to a previous post only AFTER you post your own new one. I will not post mine yet because I would like to see if anyone old there is a such a mark for 80s/90s cartoons like me. Get to Replying!
Guest chirs3 Posted July 15, 2002 Report Posted July 15, 2002 Invader Zim - I like it because: 1) It doesn't attempt to teach morals. 2) It's incredibly funny because, more often than not, they take something that makes absolutely NO sense and they play it straight. Example: Mrs. Bitters: (teacher) Alright, class. Despite my moral outrage, the school board is ALLOWING you to celebrate Valentine's day. Everybody pass out your Valentine's meat slabs. *the classroom is filled with meat being thrown between all the students* Dib: (student) Mrs. Bitters? I heard that once people gave each other cards and candy for Valentine's day. How did the whole meat thing get started? Mrs. Bitters: You don't wanna know... Or when Zim sent his class into a wormhole to destroy them... Zim: At the end lies something far worse, Dib... at the end of this wormhole lies... ... A ROOOOOOM... WITH A MOOOOOOSE! *shocked gasps all around* Dib: NOOOOOOO! Awesome show.
Guest Mattdotcom Posted July 15, 2002 Report Posted July 15, 2002 Batman: The Animated Series...I'll talk about it later, though. Busy.
Guest CoreyLazarus416 Posted July 15, 2002 Report Posted July 15, 2002 Extreme Ghostbusters I liked it because it showed a newer, more diverse crew, used an animation style that was much like Disney's style (basing how they drew the characters to how the voice actors looked, not the overall fluidness), the theme song was METAL (\m/), and the equipment looked a hell of a lot cooler. Plus, the episodes seemed to be more well thought-out than The Real Ghostbusters, and each episode added some depth to the character. In essence, Extreme Ghostbusters seemed like a b-horror movie for kids, right down to the basis of some of the plots for the episodes. Too bad the younger audiences didn't get it... But I can proudly say I have all but maybe 1 or 2 episodes on tape...4 tapes, 6 hours each, and 1 6-hour tape that has 4 hours left on it. 52 episodes...not bad for a lesser-known cartoon, eh?
Guest bob_barron Posted July 15, 2002 Report Posted July 15, 2002 Yogi Bear, Daffy Duck and Quick Draw McGraw are my three favourite of all time. They just made me laugh the most
Guest razazteca Posted July 15, 2002 Report Posted July 15, 2002 The Ripping Friends was a weird cartoon that had a sarcastic mood to it. Just imagine a show that feature a super hero group of 5 Powder Toast Men thinking that they are saving the world but are just causing more trouble than good. In their fan mail segment one of the Ripping Friends suggested little girls to not to shave their legs so strangers would not hurt them!!! Then they shown Little Red Riding Hood walking around with hairy legs.
Guest Still Fly Posted July 15, 2002 Report Posted July 15, 2002 We can't forget about The Powerpuff Girls. Where would we be without them? ...... Thats right, nowhere.
Guest MrRant Posted July 15, 2002 Report Posted July 15, 2002 Duckman - I loved this show. Full of adult humor and I loved watching him destroy the stuffed bears. The Critic - I thought this show was underrated and I wish it was still on Comedy Central.
Guest chirs3 Posted July 15, 2002 Report Posted July 15, 2002 Duckman was good until they gave it a plot (Bernice's twin sister). And the Critic was hilarious. Margot: I'll never get a boyfriend. I go to an all girls school, and the only guy available around here is Ed Koch. Ed (outside the door): How'm I doin'? How'm I doin'? Margot: Go away! Ed: I'm not doin' so good.
Guest Kingpk Posted July 15, 2002 Report Posted July 15, 2002 Just give me an hour of Elmer blowing Daffy's beak off, I'll be all set.
Guest M Nyland Posted July 15, 2002 Report Posted July 15, 2002 I'm going to put my opinions in for two great 80s cartoons The Transfomers and M.A.S.K. The Transformers will always have a place in history for me because I watched it religiously and have downloaded a bunch of episodes. I even have the movie poster on my wall. They had great voice actors and good plots with only minor loopholes that did not come into play until after the movie (when things started going downhill anyways) M.A.S.K. - just plain cool. I still pull out tapes and watch it...if nothing for the catchy theme song and that motorcycle that could fly.......and the Stillettos... "Stilletto ON!" they will always be favorites to me
Guest AlwaysPissedOff Posted July 15, 2002 Report Posted July 15, 2002 Transformers - Simply on of the best cartoons ever. It had two GREAT villians in Megatron and Starscream and the supporting cast liek Soundwave were very well written. It DID go downhill after the movie, though. Rodimus is no Optimus Prime and Galvatron is no Megatron, sadly. Robotech - The show that got me hooked onto anime for good, also the first show I ever saw that had main characters actually die and show the darker nature of human beings towards things they don't understand, like the Lisa's dad authorizing the firing of that gigantic cannon even though the Robotech forces had been hard at work finding a better solution. Batman: The Animated Series/Batman Beyond - I put them as one entry because the quiet simply, they are the best cartoons that Time Warner/FOX could have ever put out. Even when they screwed up everything else, they made both of these series into classics and I have to give them props for that. Digimon- Yeah, yeah, I know... It's a Pokemon rip-off, yada yada yada... But, you know what? Fuck that, Digimon makes Pokemon(and many other cartoons made since it's initial airing) look like complete chumps because of the depths they go to with the characters, especially in the recent Tamers season(which is probably the best one).
Guest C.H.U.D. Posted July 15, 2002 Report Posted July 15, 2002 M.A.S.K. was very cool. I also loved Transformers, G.I. Joe and Masters of the Universe.
Guest J*ingus Posted July 15, 2002 Report Posted July 15, 2002 Yogi Bear, Daffy Duck and Quick Draw McGraw are my three favourite of all time. They just made me laugh the most ::Jingus slowly backs away from Bob.:: Sorry, but the entire Hanna-Barbera output for the decade of the 70's is probably my least favorie cartoon era of all time. As for me, I'd say we have it better now than possibly ever before with the godliness that is Cartoon Network. Courage the Cowardly Dog, Powerpuff Girls, Samurai Jack, Justice League, Sheep in the Big City, Batman Beyond, Space Ghost, the entire Adult Swim lineup... the list goes on and on. Also, I was a fan of a lot of the zanier mid-late 90's syndicated stuff: Eek the Cat & The Terrible Thunderlizards, The Tick, Tiny Toons, Pinky & the Brain, and so forth. Some good work showed up in a few other random places: The Critic, Dr. Katz: Professional Therapist, Aeon Flux, Daria, The Maxx, and of course The Ambiguously Gay Duo. Also, I'd feel ashamed if I didn't mention The Simpsons and Wile. E. Coyote.
Guest M Nyland Posted July 15, 2002 Report Posted July 15, 2002 see...there are so many we can mention... like WACKY RACES!
Guest MarvinisaLunatic Posted July 15, 2002 Report Posted July 15, 2002 I love Looney Tunes. We also used to get Boomerang from Cartoon Network which showed a lot of the old cartoons that you don't see much (Josie and the Pussycats for instance..) Lets keep on going: Animaniacs. Tiny Toon adventures. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Garfield. GI Joe. Transformers. Cadilacs and Dinosaurs. He-Man. Ren and Stimpy. Blah. The list goes on...and on.. I would also like to blast Dumb and Dumber and the Mask for being the two cartoons that I was looking forward to that sucked so hard I wanted to puke (I am/was a big Jim Carrey fan) I'd also like to say, that for some wierd reason, I like to watch Pepper Ann. God knows why, but somehow I find it funny.
Guest saturnmark4life Posted July 15, 2002 Report Posted July 15, 2002 transformers was truly the best of all the 80's cartoons. I ask myself on a daily basis WHAT THE FUCK HAPPENED TO THE TICK? it was awesome.
Guest Karnage Posted July 15, 2002 Report Posted July 15, 2002 Beavis & Butthead. A hilarious cartoon, way better than what Mike Judge is doing now(King of the Hill).
Guest pochorenella Posted July 15, 2002 Report Posted July 15, 2002 For old-time cartoons, nothing, ABSOLUTELY NOTHING, can compare to Tom & Jerry. They're the best. For more recent ones, Animaniacs and Pinky and the Brain. Definitely not just for kids. Beavis and Butthead rule, of course. And The Simpsons are possibly the finest cartoon shown of all-time. I consider Anime in a whole other category, so I won't name any here. BTW, Wizard Magazine had a feature about this a couple of issues back, it's really worth reading. Check it out if you can.
Guest bob_barron Posted July 15, 2002 Report Posted July 15, 2002 Wacky Races is like the greatest!!! B-n-B and R-n-S are also classics. And Jingus- c'mon- Hanna Barbera rules all
Guest chirs3 Posted July 15, 2002 Report Posted July 15, 2002 What was Wacky Races? Is that the show that had teams of Hann Barbara characters racing around through space and other locales?
Guest bob_barron Posted July 15, 2002 Report Posted July 15, 2002 Yes- and Dick Dasterdly and Muttley always tried to CHEAT TO WIN!~
Guest Mattdotcom Posted July 15, 2002 Report Posted July 15, 2002 Dick Dastardly really got on my nerves after two shows. He would be miles ahead of the lame faces and stop to put up a rope, whilst Muttley did his DISTEMPER LAUGH OF DOOM~!! The Batman cartoons are on a whole nother level for me. I can still remember watching the premiere. The classic shows (Beware the Gray Ghost is my favorite thing to have ever been put on TV). The best job ever done in handling and updating villains (save the almost-as-good Superman). I've been a Batman fan my whole life, and this series is my favorite, next to the Simpsons. Worth Mentioning: Freakazoid! Tiny Toons! Ninja Turtles! Critic! Duckman! Anamaniacs! Whatever... I love animation.
Guest Flyboy Posted July 15, 2002 Report Posted July 15, 2002 Powerpuff Girls: A show aimed for little girls in general, but when watched is funny as hell. Adult humor... Mojo Jojo, Bubbles, Buttercup.. I'm all set. Plus, the "Beatles" episode was funny as hell. Dexter's Labotory: Don't know why I like the show.. it's just entertaining to me. Plus Dee-Dee is funny in it. X-Men (the Fox one, not any damn Evolution): One of THE best comic-to-cartoons in the 90's.
Guest razazteca Posted July 15, 2002 Report Posted July 15, 2002 some of the Adult Swim shows on Cartoon Network are good: Mission Hill - a lazy bum waisting his govt check on junk food, finds out his roommate has a sweet job at an advertisement company helping out technophobe execs, invents moon juice with space cookies. Hawkman Attorney at Law - Boo Boo Bear as a terrorist. Home Movies - basically squiggle vision cartoon about a kid with a hand held camera
Guest Razor Roman Posted July 15, 2002 Report Posted July 15, 2002 Duckman - I loved this show. Full of adult humor and I loved watching him destroy the stuffed bears. The Critic - I thought this show was underrated and I wish it was still on Comedy Central. I forget where it was, but they actually made new Critic episodes in Flash for a website.
Guest kkktookmybabyaway Posted July 15, 2002 Report Posted July 15, 2002 "Robotech - The show that got me hooked onto anime for good, also the first show I ever saw that had main characters actually die and show the darker nature of human beings towards things they don't understand, like the Lisa's dad authorizing the firing of that gigantic cannon even though the Robotech forces had been hard at work finding a better solution." I remember watching that show as a kid and got all freaked out one episode when they left their dying comrade during an escape. Didn't the earth blow up or somthing toward the end? It was a LONG time since I've seen the show... I gotta go with Dangermouse because it had a mouse with no tail and one eye and a funny hamster (or is it gerbil?)
Guest Razor Roman Posted July 15, 2002 Report Posted July 15, 2002 I'm a total mark for Roger Rabbit. He's single-pawedly responsible for the Animaiton revival of the '90s. And stupid Eisner and Speilberg killed him. They killed him damnit.
Guest Mattdotcom Posted July 16, 2002 Report Posted July 16, 2002 BIRDman, not Hawkman, is Cartoon Network's lawyer.
Guest AlwaysPissedOff Posted July 16, 2002 Report Posted July 16, 2002 I remember watching that show as a kid and got all freaked out one episode when they left their dying comrade during an escape. I can't really remember what episode you're speaking of, but no, the Earth didn't blow up in the end. I think you may be talking about when they blew up the Zentradi Masters' planet near the end before Khyron started his rebellion after the end of the first Robotech War.
