The European Title...

Recommended Posts

Guest Downhome

Ok, I'll make this short and simple so we can get to the discussion. Should WWE keep the European Title as it is, should it be renamed, or should it be done away with totally? Personally, I feel that it should be deleted totally, and replaced with the WWE World Television Title, and would then be defended on every TV show, regardless of the brand. If not that, then change the name to the Canadian Championship, as that would work nicely in WWE as they always seem to bring up that Canadian gimmick every so offten. In closing...

...my vote is the replacing it with the WWE World Television Championship, what about you all?

Sincerely,

...Downhome...

yea that sounds good, and you can give the belt to someone the fans want to see on both shows, like RVD, or someone who can wrestle alot like Angle Benoit or whoever

that being said it would wind up going to Albert, where Hossamania would run wild

WHY MUST YOU FUCK EVERYTHING UP VINCE!!!! This belt had so much credibility with the super hot X-Pac - D'Lo Brown exchanges in 98, as well as the HBK - Bulldog match...now its NOTHING, just like all the freakin' titles...ahh fuck it, ill just post something funny now...

I don't really think a name change would make a difference, it just needs to be defended and won through meaningful feuds. I say move either the Euro or Intercontinental to SmackDown!.

In my opinion, the best match that was ever over the Euro strap was the very FIRST one to determine the first ever holder, Owen Hart Vs. The British Bulldog. I loved that match, and not one has came close to that bout in my eyes.

I still say delete it now, and replace it with the WWE World Television Championship. That could be something that has the potential to be over as hell!

a TV title would be cool...but Vince can't have anything that WCW got over...nosiree....

I'd say make it Canadian since the WWE has more Canadian wrestlers and goes to Canada more than Europe every year....

But a t.v. title in the traditional sense doesn't make sense in the current wrestling climate. The t.v. title was relavent in a wrestling world where the world and intercontinental titles were very rarely (almost never) defended on television and hence the t.v. title allowed a title to be defended more regularly on the shows. In the current wrestling world where the world title can be defended twice in one week on television, it doesn't make much sense to have a title be the exclusive domain of television.

If the goal would be merely to have another singles title floating between the shows, it would probably make more sense to have the IC title do that.

I think the European title has outlived its usefulness. In the present incarnation, it's not entirely unlike the Million Dollar Belt. Just for show.

Are you guys actually thinking about bringing in the tv title? That would be the stupidest thing ever. Wanna know why, because the tv title never meant shit(except for 1987 when Rick Steiner won it. Although it still ment shit then too. Why was Kevin Sullivan in a birdcage anyway?), and the Euro belt means even less. I say unless they want to 'try" to give credibility to the division they should drop the belt.

I say get rid of it, because there is only one European in the roster(Regal), and number 2 I thought the belt would only be defended in Europe. Either get rid of ii and replace it for a new belt, the WWE television title, only to be defended on Smackdown.

Move it to Smackdown so there is a secondary singles title (besides Cruiser Title) to fight over. I'd say rename it, then build up it's credibility so that it's Smackdown's version of the IC Title.

I disagree with the "Canadian Championship" thing.. it's kind of along the same vein as the Euro championship and would soon become pointless. It's like having the US Title in this day-and-age, just doesn't make sense.

I totally support the TV Title idea, though. Hell, even a TV Title for EACH show would be cool. A RAW Title and a Smackdown Title. Each one is ONLY defended on that show (No PPV's or house shows) every week. Plus it would give SD one more title to work with that isn't a tag team or CW belt..

Obviously you missed the Booker T/Chris Benoit series.. circa 1998

That would be a massive step down for every one involved.

the European title is as useful as the Western Heritage was in WCW, either phase it out or merge it with the other belts making a Undistputed National Champion = Euro + Texas + IC.

or a simple name change will work

Rename the belt, and give it to Smackdown to become that brand's Intercontinental championship. No cool new diea, none of that crap. Smackdown needs a title, European belt makes no sense and needs credibility, simple as that.
