Guest Intimacy Goblin Posted July 15, 2002 Report Posted July 15, 2002 Allow me to explain the rules of the game: As I have been to many a restaurant and eaten many an item, I've settled into certain biases for getting food from one eatery when I could get the same food from another eatery much easier, but I go to the first one anyway because they make the food better. I realize that some of the responses may contain eateries others have never heard of (unless it is a chain), so please be so kind as to give a location so that others may enjoy the great food. This is simply an opinion thread, open to some light debate. So let's get started. Best steak: Olive Garden Best fries: Checkers Best doughnuts: Dunkin Donuts Best ice cream: Any Friendly's in the Northeast US
Guest areacode212 Posted July 15, 2002 Report Posted July 15, 2002 I've posted this URL before, but people interested in this kind of thing should check out http://www.chowhound.com
Guest jtronx Posted July 16, 2002 Report Posted July 16, 2002 Best steak: Olive Garden Doesn't all their food come pre-cooked in airsealed plastic bags, and the 'restaurant' in question just heats them up? Best fries: Checkers B-Frites in NYC or Rudy's in New Haven, CT Best doughnuts: Dunkin Donuts But what about Krispy Kreme~! Best ice cream: Any Friendly's in the Northeast US The best I ever had was in Madison, WI at the University of Wisconsin. Apparently they have the world's leading Dairy Science program.
Guest Mr. Slim Citrus Posted July 16, 2002 Report Posted July 16, 2002 Best Donuts: Krispy Kreme Best Chicken Sandwich: Chick-fil-A Best Fountain Beverage: Sonic's (Cherry Limeade)
Guest areacode212 Posted July 16, 2002 Report Posted July 16, 2002 Best fries: Checkers B-Frites in NYC or Rudy's in New Haven, CT I walk past B Frites every day, but I've never gone in! I'll have to rectify that some day. EDIT: Best gelato: Fortunatos in Brooklyn
Guest Intimacy Goblin Posted July 16, 2002 Report Posted July 16, 2002 Best doughnuts: Dunkin Donuts But what about Krispy Kreme~! Okay, I'll retract the Olive Garden statement. Best steak: T-Bonz And as for Krispy Kreme, I've had their donuts before, and I always get the sense that their donuts are just too... messy. Plus, when I walk into a Krispy Kreme and inhale, the smell of the place doesn't sit with me (I take scent of an eatery seriously). Now, when I walk into a Dunkin Donuts, I can't help the smile that breaks out on my face. Best fried shrimp: Mimi's Cafe in Charleston, SC.

Guest Intimacy Goblin Posted July 16, 2002 Report Posted July 16, 2002 Best Pizza: Palumbo's in Old Bridge, NJ There's a great place in Boston, MA, called Uno's, near the Prudential Center, and they make some damn good pizza. And there's a great buffet place in Disney World's Magic Kingdom park. It's at the end of main street and they have some damn good mashed potatoes, lamb, and chicken tenders. Best cheeseburger: International House of Pancakes' Monster Cheeseburger Best grilled cheese: Huddle House
Guest Razor Roman Posted July 16, 2002 Report Posted July 16, 2002 And there's a great buffet place in Disney World's Magic Kingdom park. It's at the end of main street and they have some damn good mashed potatoes, lamb, and chicken tenders. Would that be the Crystal Palace, where you can eat with Pooh and his friends? The best mashed potatoes in Disney are at Cindarella's Royal Table (in Cindarella Castle) they're made with the skins in there as well as mashed in french fried onions. So good! Plus they have excellent desserts!
Guest NoCalMike Posted July 17, 2002 Report Posted July 17, 2002 Only problem with this thread is that unless we only name chain-stores, I don't think any of us are going to know what the other people are talking about.....ALA, we all know Krispy Cream, but who the hell has heard of Ray's Donuts on Truxel Road? hehehe, I am just an ass, I guess.....anyways... Steak: Black Angus Margarita's: On The Border Pancakes/Breakfast: IHOP Burgers(non-fast food) Fudruckers...
Guest Razor Roman Posted July 17, 2002 Report Posted July 17, 2002 Steak: Black Angus Margarita's: On The Border Pancakes/Breakfast: IHOP Burgers(non-fast food) Fudruckers... I'd have to disagree with your Breakfast choice. I've said it before, and I 'll say it again. (and I believe Lance Storm has said it too...) Cracker Barrell RULES THE BREAKFAST UNIVERSE.

Guest areacode212 Posted July 29, 2002 Report Posted July 29, 2002 areacode212: it's all about the Samurai sauce if you get the frites. And thanks for the chowhound link, that place is pretty cool! Hey jtronx, I tried the B. Frites with the samurai sauce (along with aivioi (sp?) sauce) last Sunday. I liked it. The fries were good...the sauce was slightly overwhelming, and the regular size was a bit pricey, but a decent snack.
