Guest El Hijo Del Lunatic Posted July 16, 2002 Report Posted July 16, 2002 So I was playing Major League Baseball for my NES (yes, the LJN 1988 version), and as I was putting my customary NL All-Star team together, I lined up Eric Davis third, Dale Murphy fourth, and Howard Johnson fifth. Which was odd, because I never play HoJo ... oh, wait, that's not why it was odd. I noticed that I had three 30-30 guys hitting back-to-back-to-back. Dale Murphy had his 30-30 season in 1983, when he hit 36 homers and stole 30 bases. Eric Davis stole FIFTY bases and hit 37 homers in 1987, and Howard Johnson pulled a thirty-thirty THREE times in five years (1987, 1989, and 1991). Obviously I didn't know dates and stuff off the top of my head - I did some checking. You know, you never hear about a guy pulling a 30-30 anymore. I don't know why that is; it's just as rare now as it was in the late 80's an early 90's. I don't think there've ever been more than 5 people to join the 30-30 club in the same year, though I really didn't go back ridiculously far ... but I dgireess. My point is this: does anybody know who made the 30-30 club lately? So here's the big trivia question: who are the last ten men to hit 30 home runs and steal 30 bases in the same season? I was thinking it might be a cool way to get some baseball talk going if people started taking guesses at this. Just whoever comes to mind off the top of your head. I'll give you two hints: The ten men all did it in the last five years, and two men did it twice in that span. Oh, I think I'll know if you cheat, because I was SHOCKED at a few of these names, especially the two guys who did it twice. So take a shot. Ten guys. I figure I could keep it going by telling you how many out of ten you got right, but not WHICH guys you got right. And at the very least, maybe we get some good general baseball talk going. Mostly cause power hitters are really, really BIG nowdays and don't have the speed a guy like Eric Davis used to have.

A couple of guys that are on these lists DID join the 30-30 club, but they weren't one of the last ten men to do so. If he did, I think its him. 2. Pedro of course. I would think maybe Jim Bunning. Nolan Ryan? 3. Willie McGee. 1990, he played for the Cardinals, hit about .335, and was traded mid-year for Felix Jose. I'm a Cards fan, so I remember stuff like that. 4. Wow. Tough one. I'll take a stab and say the Dodgers infield of Garvey, Lopes, Wills and Cey. 5. Isn't it one of the late 90s Oriole teams?
