Guest phoenixrising Report post Posted July 21, 2002 Actually the answer I was angling for was Rogers Hornsby, who holds the single seasons batting marks for St. Louis (.424 in 1924), the Boston/Milwaukee/Atlanta Braves (.387 in 1928), and the Cubs (.380 in 1929). Hornsby does hold the record for all 3 teams, provided you discount the stats of the 1800s. Gary Sheffield is correct. His .330 average in 1992 ranks 10th in Padre history, behind 9 different seasons of Tony Gwynn. Ok, lets try a few more trivia questions....... 1. Who held the single season home run title before Babe Ruth? 2. Who broke Walter Johnson's strikeout record in 1983? 3. Who held the all time hit record before Ty Cobb and Pete Rose? 4. Who was the last non-reliever to win a Cy Young award with less than 15 wins? 5. Most know that Wally Pipp was the Yankee 1st baseman before Lou Gehrig. But who replaced Gehrig? Thanks for the info on Olerud and Hornsby. I remembered Sheffield, cause in 1992 he was on a Triple Crown pace, which was pretty rare at the time. As for your questions... 1.
