Guest Insanityman Report post Posted July 16, 2002 I'm assuming this would be fine to put here, but do you consider skating, rollerblading, scooting, and biking sports? I call all of them sports myself even though I only skateboard and that's the only sport I truly enjoy too. I brought this up since my friend's older jock brother is still debating (or yelling works) about how skateboarding isn't a sport and it's only a bunch of kids on a piece of wood doing tricks and getting in "shape." Sure, skateboarding isn't the total work-out but it helps me actually get outside. On a complete side note me and my friends built our own ramps (and we have some really nice stuff, about a 5'7"-ish foot high bank ramp, no joking, etc). Your opinions? Guest starvenger Report post Posted July 16, 2002 In terms of competition, I'd call it a sport in the vein of diving and figure skating (kinda), where you're ranked based on your performance. But for most of us, it's more of a recreational outlet than anything else.
Guest Sebastian_the_Bastard Report post Posted July 16, 2002 No... it's an activity. Love, Sebastian the Bastard
Guest Ripper Report post Posted July 16, 2002 Well not that this has anything to do with being a sport or not, that girl that has won like 6 X-game awards on the in-line skating thing was at the WNBA game last night and she is pretty hot. That is all.

Guest Nezbyte Report post Posted July 17, 2002 According to Dictionary.com: sport Pronunciation Key (spôrt, sprt) n. Physical activity that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often engaged in competitively. A particular form of this activity. An activity involving physical exertion and skill that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often undertaken competitively. An active pastime; recreation. So, yes. 90's sports are just as much a sport as Football which is just as much a sport as Pro Wrestling.

Guest Lord of The Curry Report post Posted July 20, 2002 I skateboard and I consider it an art form. It's technique, it's precison and its what looks good. Sports are designed with competition in mind, skatboarding was founded in search of fun and enjoyment.

Guest NoCalMike Report post Posted July 24, 2002 if Golf and Bowling can be considered SPORTS, then skateboarding and snowboarding can as well. I think Sports is just defined as Athletic competition. So therefore yes, they are sports.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted August 1, 2002 I agree that they're sports when played in a competition.
Guest Choken One Report post Posted August 2, 2002 If people can consider rolling on wood, SPORTS as opposed to 200 MPH on 31 degree banking, where you can't see a motherfucking thing...In 250 degree heat, trapped in 6 seat belts...surrounded by Metal...Yeahm flipping on a piece of wood is really a Sport. Guest Goodear Report post Posted August 4, 2002 I always thought the best definition of a sport was that it "was a activity with either a fight, a ball, or a race that has a definitive winner." So, Skateboarding by that definition isn't a sport unless its one of those down hill races I saw on TV one time. Basically anything is that has judges isn't really on good sports standing, since the judges are often influenced by outside influences that have little to nothing to do with the actuall performance. Guest Vyce Report post Posted August 5, 2002 X-games - not sports. NASCAR - REALLY not a sport. Golf - so NOT a sport I can't even begin to tell you why. I could publish a thesis on why it's not one, but I'm far too lazy.
