Guest Frank Zappa Mask Report post Posted July 16, 2002 http://www.citizencorps.gov/ Yep, noisy neighbors and paranoid mailman protecting us all from the terrorist menace.......God Bless America.
Guest Spicy McHaggis Report post Posted July 16, 2002 You have been inviting the "if you don't like it, get out" response for quite some time. Allow me: If all these things about America piss you off so much, then leave.
Guest Some Guy Report post Posted July 16, 2002 Frank, I don't see why you have a problem with it. It is a community effort to help prevent crime and terrorism. Community Policing has been effective where it's been used, I don't see why this won't be.
Guest bob_barron Report post Posted July 16, 2002 I think it sounds like a good idea- FZM- I'm moving to Canada, maybe you should join me.
Guest Cancer Marney Report post Posted July 16, 2002 Community policing works against pathetic middle-aged men who try to kidnap children, or bored teens breaking windows and stealing radios. Community policing won't do a damn thing to deter psychotic paramilitary terrorist cells. The idea is ridiculous. It makes people feel as if they're doing something when they're not, and that's not only silly, it's dangerous.
Guest Ripper Report post Posted July 16, 2002 Of course think of the fun when a Citizen Corps meeting group has a few too many beers while talking about how that Muhammed guy down the street is One of them Arabs and how they should protect thier community. Could get ugly.
Guest LesnarLunatic Report post Posted July 16, 2002 Yep... vigilantism can't fail. *rolls eyes* How much proof will be needed to arrest somebody with these Citizen mobs? Could somebody be thrown away for months at a time for a crime they didn't commit since some guy didn't like them or they felt suspicious. I'm sure some people here will dismiss it as a coincidence that repressive Fascist and Communist regimes had the same sort of citizen spy systems. Since Bush such a great guy *smirk* I don't like this idea. Just because others don't like the idea doesn't give you the authority to tell them to leave. I'm sure that if that "If you don't like it, leave" attitude was accepted in the past, the world would be alot different. Bleh.. Dubya über alles. I don't like this at all. I think this is a lousy idea, but I don't think a few old folks in a gated community somewhere are going to get people locked up for months on nothing charges. There's still due process to be considered. Besides, the types of folks nosy neighbors are likely to "identify" and turn in will probably have nothing to do with terrorism in the slightest. Guest J*ingus Report post Posted July 17, 2002 Just imagine the kind of crap that, say, a Hindu would have to put up with. ("He's one of those towel-heads, and he practices some foreign pagan religion! We've gotta take care of him!")
Guest EricMM Report post Posted July 17, 2002 http://www.smh.com.au/articles/2002/07/14/...6185141232.html This is pretty much how I feel, and it's wrong and it's scary. This may be intended to protect us, but it is also going against the original theories of the constitution. No leaders should be as strong as this!
Guest hardyz1 Report post Posted July 19, 2002 It's a shitty idea. And that's that.
Guest Invader3k Report post Posted July 24, 2002 I don't know that it's a horrible idea...in theory it sounds good, but so does communism. It just isn't going to work...people in this Citizen Corps are going to abuse their new found powers.
Guest DrTom Report post Posted July 24, 2002 "It just isn't going to work...people in this Citizen Corps are going to abuse their new found powers." I heard on the radio a few days ago that this aspect of the plan was being severely curtailed, apparently because a lot of people had huge problems with it. So fear not, your mailman will no longer implicate you as a terrorist for receiving three unmarked brown packages in the span of a week.
Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted July 25, 2002 Is it really necessary to have a law telling people to look out for suspicious activity. Like O'Reilly said the other day, just have Bush go on TV and ask people to be vigilant and report activity.
