Jason Kidd vs Gary Payton

Pretty self explanitory...Jason or Gary and why??

Gary Payton.

 

He carries Seattle every year.

 

While Kidd didnt really carry NJN, althought he did do a good job, and was the biggest asset to the team. But he had Kenyon Martin, Kerry Kittles, Keith Van Horn, and Todd MacCallough.

 

Who are all really good players

 

Payton just has Baker and Lewis who are above average players at best.

As a suns fan...a super suns fan...since I didn't even know what I was watching, I knew I liked to Sus. I know that Jason Kidd CARRIED them to the playoffs each year(notice the no playoff birth this year) and he CARRIED New Jersey this year(notice that Van Horn, Gill in the place of kittles put up the same numbers and Martin played over 50 games with each other last year and bearly won any of them.)

 

Payton, while he doesn't have much help now (Rashard Lewis is the man though, and Brent Barry gives them MAJOR minutes) even when he had a great team, he couldn't take them anywhere(1 finals apperance and 2 west finals apperance) Shawn Kemp, Detlef Shrchpf, Hersy Hawkins(or Kendall Gill depending on what year and Nate McMillian and he still couldn't go anywhere.

 

Jason is the better defender (yeah, I said it...he is better than the glove) a better rebounder, and he makes his teamates better.

 

I have to go with Jason on this one.

I say Payton. I still think he's a better defender than Kidd and he's a much better shooter.

Kidd was number 2 in the league in steals and All defesive first team I do believe. Payton is a great team defender but when the chips are down, you put kidd in frount of the best offensive player and let him go.

 

And with all of paytons shooting, Kidd is a better offensive producer in the 4th if you watch seattle play in the fourth you know what I mean.

Payton is a way better shooter, than Kidd. Everyone knows that, because Payton is averaging 20 points a game, while Kidd is just averaging 10.

Jason Kidd- At some points he was the whole Nets team. He changed their image as a franchise and was just god like all year.

 

Kidd was robbed of MVP

If you watch the Sonics at all.. Payton is at his best when he plays the 2. The reason why he shoots first is because:

 

1. He IS that damn good.

2. He doesn't have anyone around him ala Shawn Kemp when he was the Reign Man.

3. He can post up most PG in the league so he takes advantage of hit.

4. Can do it all, 3's, post up, fade, steal, assists, rebounds... the guy is TENACIOUS (sp) and fights all the way to the end.

The best PG is Andre Miller, he led the NBA in assists playing on the CAVS. THE FRICKING CAVS~! They have no scorers..he's the best.

Kid has been averageing 15-16 pts a game over the last few years...only 5-6 pts fewer than Garys. Jasons teams have been averaging 10-15 more wins than Garys. And when they match up..who disappears. GARY.

 

I love Payton and all, but the guy has never been the best PG in the League.

That's absolutely absurd. There's no possible way that the Nets could have done any better than the NBA Finals with or without Gary Payton. I have my doubts that a Payton-led Nets team could have beaten Boston.

 

Jason Kidd is probably the only player in the league (with the possible exception of Ben Wallace) who have the ability to take over a game without scoring.

Hell, defense is the ONLY way that Ben Wallace takes over the game. And I am fine with that. Watching him play is what basketball is all about.

 

And no, the Nets with Payton would be the Nets with Marbury...they wouldn't have made it that far. I wouldn't get them past the Pacers in round one.

What lifted the Nets was Kidd's leadership. He has faith in them, the same kind of faith Maybury didnt have.

 

Payton proved he can carry a team, to the playoffs.

 

Although I DOUBT, Payton can make them the #1 team in the East. But I can see them going 44-38.

 

I dont hate Kidd, infact I do think he is an excellent player.

 

I just think Payton is better.

See thats where I have to take Kidd of Payton too.

 

Payton has done ALOT ot alienate his teamates in the past(him freezing out Rashard Lewis one game comes to mind) and gets suspended for doing things detremental to the team. I think the Sonics could be better if they actually liked Gary. Kidd is well liked by all of his teamates.

Payton does have problems. But hes in no way near the way he was.

 

But I feel Payton, has more pure talent than Kidd.
