I don't know if anyone here frequents IGN, but I don't anymore. I used to go there and check out their video game reviews and their wrestling show recaps (seems like so long ago), but IGN Wrestling was scrapped in late 2000. I stayed onboard for the guilty pleasure that is Hardcore TV, but they moved that to a forum and the videos just don't seem to have the bang that they once had. I stayed on board for IGN Sci Fi, but that apparently went extinct at the end of 2001. I liked going there and peeping what was going on in the world of comics. Film Force was the main attraction for me since all the video game features were put into IGN Insider (the site's subscription area that appeared out of nowhere and started making the site suck even more), but I was somewhat pissed at the fact that they never reviewed ALI, even though they had a minisite for it. I don't check Film Force anymore either. Now when I go the site at all, I get to have advertisements shoved down my throat that are annoying as all hell. It seems like a perfectly good thing has gone down the crapper.

Well, it was one of those sites that was just too good to be true.  Financial reality hit them in a big way.  The 'old' IGN was great but also a huge money loser.  It sucks but.. that's the way things are now

I'm with you. I used to think it was great. Even after Wrestling and Sci Fi closed shop, I could always depend on the good old DVD and video game reviews. Now that the video game reviews are locked for like 4 days for the 'Insiders', as well as some news or previews, I find myself only frequenting the DVD site (which doesn't charge for reviews...yet) and filmforce.

Their Wrestling site was the shit.  Their reviews weren't biased (!), they interviewed wrestlers that I wanted to read about, and their columns were actually about wrestling.  It was a sad day when they closed the doors on ignwrestling

IGN Wrestling was great.  I remember when Blake Norton ripped apart Uncensored 2000.  It was so funny..

But then he and Miss Galatea were fired in Feb. 2001.  Actually, I think they were let go one year ago yesterday.  That was the beginning of the end.  Anyway, IGN is a complete shell of it's former glory.

Yeah, I can't say I'm so fond of the boards over at IGN anymore. Granted, being a mod I'm not affected directly by the whole deal that they pulled, but it still sucks a whole lot, and they might as well have shut them down completely.

I'm like Myriad. I'm also a mod, and strongly disagree with it, but I'm not affected.

The boards will stay though, Merc. Most of them are doing pretty well, and all the IGN haters are signing up for insider anyway.

I guess their plan worked.

But bring back IGN Wrestling. That rocked.

I used to go to IGN Wrestling and the boards all the time, but i guess those days are over now.

It's a shame, it was one of my most frequented and favourite sites.

I am in agreement with the views on the old IGN site. When I first discovered the site, I could not believe the free guides, the movies etc. OK, so now you have to suscribe to get the guides and EVERY F*****n' review! Hell, I can go to Gamespot, get the same review and a ton of extras (video clips, video reviews, faqs, etc.) for free. I don't even bother logging into IGN anymore. It sucks because it was one of my favorite sites. IGN Wrestling was hit or miss for me. Some of the reviews were a little novice but generally the articles were interesting.

NOw you have to subscribe to Insider for the message boards, which means Hardcore TV is dead now too. It's only a matter of time before Film Force ends up in Insider. IGN used to be my favorite site.

Wow.. a lot of IGN forum users just got abruptly thrown out on their ass

who will be the lucky (ha) site to pick up all those people?  Probably Gamespot.  Too bad their message boards are pretty crappy

I was one of those people that was thrown out. I got Insider, but I don't go there nearly as much. A lot of things got screwed up by their decision. I can't say I'm upset at the decision, but rather the way they did it without any warning whatsoever. One day of warning would have been nice...

I'm very very disapointed in IGN. I stumbled onto the IGN Boards one day and found the IGNWF Board. I joined up and became one of the orginal members of the IGNJL. I got promoted and went into the IGNWF. I started becoming a reg at the WCB and also a big fan of IGN Wrestlign with Norton and Galatea. Then bam IGN Wrestlign gets shut down and from there everythign just went down hill. Sure FilForce was still cool and I still had game reveiws and what not but it just wan't as good. I got Insider a while back so I could mess around with IGN Arena and just to have basiclly but now I really see no reason I should go back to the IGN Boards. Most of the people I liked to talk to are here in the IGNWF now the SWF. A bunch of the on the WCB had been leaving anyway and many more them will now that they have to pay twenty bucks to post. You know IGN bitchs that they did it to save bandwidth and what not. Well instead of kicking off thousands of people maybe they should have stopped wasting money on all there fancy little graphics and so many other things. They could have avoided this easily instead of constatly "improving" the boards by adding fetures that took up banwidth they could have just made a few boards liek maybe the TV Baords and such Insider only. And by not telling anybody what was going on is just wrong. I understand their reasoning spamming hacking and what not but still a little warning would have kind of nice. IGN also doesn't realize that post quality is about to go way down. Any idoit can be an Insider (I'm proof) but that doesn't make you a good poster.

Well the wrestling site stayed active for quite a while after Norton and Galatea left but the quality dropped big time..

Anyone remember Blake's "Saving WCW" editorial? Damn, that was an excellent piece of work. I loved their interviews too, they were so long and detailed. Especially the ones with DDP and Mick.

As for the boards, it's better that they made it 100% insiders only than shutting them down completely.

Planetgamecube is getting a lot of the IGN runoff from IGN's Nintendo sector.

They run an EZ Board and have 3000+ members, but they also have a hardass Board Moderator by the name of Rick Powers who uses a freaky picture of HHH for his Avatar.

Thats the kind of guy the Smarks forum needs as a moderator.

Best site for gamecube news.

The videogame reviews are OK.  I still frequent the DVD site for the reviews, previews and easter eggs, which hasn't been updated since January.  I CAN'T stand that "insider" crap, but until they charge for entrance to the site, I will continue to frequent in for DVD stuff.
