Frog Splashes, Tombstones and Haircuts, oh my!

Whooo... let me start with the backstory for this. Last night, I found out about some servers of matches on Hotline. So, after some browsing, I came back there today to the Tiger Driver's server. After some more browsing, I decided on my pick for download. A match I had heard alot about before..

El Hijo Del Santo and Octagon v. Art Barr and Eddie Guerrero, When Worlds Collide.

Let me just say that the wait was worth it.

Much like the millions who I have seen this, I say it was a damn good match. Let me go over some points.

Art Barr's heat drawing tactics were a highlight. It was even more of a benefit to have the announcers (Tenay and some other guy, Chris Cruise, somebody) explain some of the heat involved. From "The Swim" to (Proposition) "187" to saying "Made in America". Just unrefutable proof that Art Barr was the man, and the idiots who tried to market him in WCW with the Juicer gimmick were missing out big time. He had a gift for pissing off Mexican fans and that's an understatement.

Art Barr's Frog Splash proves to live up to the hype. It jumps out (no pun intended) in front of the others and then taunts them to come and catch up. It's just that damn good. Everything else is just pale in comparison. Another note, the Superplex into a Frog Splash was one of the best combo finishers I've seen.

Let me also say that in Mexico, they know how to do the Tombstone right. You take the Tombstone, and you stay still for a good 20 minutes until they put you on the stretcher and send you to the Hospital. None of this American bullshit where Hogan hulks out of the damn Tombstone. You take it and you stay down amigo.

Then, a bit later, Love Machine, your hero and mine, takes a piledriver, and is left to wonder where he is. When I read "Santo rolls up Eddy as Barr says "where am I?"", I thought the Barr part was some exaggeration or something that they were guessing what he was saying, oh heck no, he said it into the mic. In Mexico, selling matters when it comes to being dropped on your head.

Speaking of being dropped on your head, lovely to see some Dragon Suplexes from Eddy on Hijo del Santo. It makes me wonder when Eddie decided to stop using that. Although, I wonder if he could do that to, say, Jeff Hardy or Spike Dudley (both of whom seem to have no objections to being dropped right on their heads), and not screw them up real good.

Superb finish as well. Good counter. Then, the drama begins, as Art and Eddy give haircuts to each other. In a way, it's a manly show of brotherhood, as Eddy tells Art to cut his hair, and Art obliges. Then, Art gets a hair cut from Eddy. No electric razors for this, just clippers. Sure, both of them could have done some more work on cutting. But, at least some kid in the front row still has a jar with Eddy and Art's hair in it. As he grows up and ponders the day when his own children will get the hair of the man with the best damn frog splash in the world, the man who was one half of the greatest heel team that could have done much more, the child will treasure that gift. Or, if he is stupid, he'll toss it or sell it. Oh well, it'd be his loss.

As Eddy and Art departed, in shame, with less hair. We saw one of the last glimpses of Art Barr. Honestly, he went out with a great match. I'd suspect he would have went on to ECW. He would have probably ended up back in WCW with Eddy. Who knows where he'd go from there. Knowing WCW, they'd get the ball in their hands, and they'd fumble it. Which is the sad reality of things.

I could see if I can get another match downloaded off the server. Just so I can waste more of your time with another spiel about how good it was. Hehe..

To chime in: Awesome match.

However, my intentions are somewhat off-topic here...any chance I can get the server IP's off of you? I can't track any down myself...

Heh...I made a reference to Art Barr and the Frog Splash and Tombstone i my article "Shooting From The Hip" at SmarkTown...

Sounds like a good match. I might have to scrap up some cash and get a tape.

That match is so awesome. It made me a huge fan of Eddy. Does anyone have any suggestions as to some good Art Barr matches?
