Guest MrRant Report post Posted July 17, 2002 My vote would go to the ungodly horrible rendition of GNR's "Sweet Child Of Mine" by Sheryl Crow. Everytime I heard it I experienced physical pain. I used to be okay with her until that song... now I fucking hate her guts.

Guest Kinetic Report post Posted July 17, 2002 There are a group of emo people who work at my local CD Warehouse. By virtue of their poor listening habits, I've had the opportunity to listen to most of the Weezer tribute CD, which seemed to be less a tribute and more their entire first album covered by punk bands in order. Either way, it sucked. The cover of "My Name Is Jonas" made me never want to hear that song again even more than I already never wanted to hear that song again. Guest Incandenza Report post Posted July 17, 2002 Though I'm sure all those tribute albums that Kinetic refered to are truly awful, I'm going to go with Limp Bizkit's [sarcasm]ROCKIN'[/sarcasm] version of George Michael's "Faith." The original version was a harmless piece of pop fluff, but Durst and Co.'s attempt to make it cool for da kidz, yo. That so many people automatically equate loud guitars with "good" makes me weep for our youth.
Guest CoreyLazarus416 Report post Posted July 17, 2002 Britney Spears - "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction" (originally Rolling Stones) Britney Spears - "I Love Rock N' Roll" (originally Joan Jett, although Britney thinks it's by Pat Benatar) Dee Dee Ramone - "Jump In The Fire" (originally Metallica) Tori Amos - "Smells Like Teen Spirit" (originally Nirvana) Tori Amos - "Raining Blood" (originally Slayer; Not only did Tori forget that the reason the song is so appealing is because of the MUSIC ITSELF, but she misinterpreted the song, which is about mass murder, to be about feminism because she wants "a big vagina to open up all over Afghanistan and let the menstrual blood rain on the male pigs")

Guest The Man in Blak Report post Posted July 17, 2002 Our Lady Peace's cover of The Beatles' "Tomorrow Never Knows". Godhead's "cover" of The Beatles' "Eleanor Rigby". And I'll throw in another vote for Sheryl Crow's abysmal take on "Sweet Child O' Mine." Though no thread with "Worst Covers" in the title can be complete without Guns 'n Roses' "fat Elton" period, with "Live and Let Die" and "Knockin' On Heaven's Door" both coming in loud and clear as candidates for this thread. Guest Nezbyte Report post Posted July 17, 2002 Yep, Tori Amos' cover of "Raining Blood" is the worst ever. Hands down. It's the be all, end all of intent misjudged and not seen. Fucking stupid bitch, i hope God pimp smacks her straight to hell.
Guest spiny norman Report post Posted July 17, 2002 Noboy's mentioned Madonna's American Pie? I mean, seriously, the fact someone can do that song and it's not even bearable to listen to shows how bad her cover was. It's such a great song! How can you do it so badly? Guest The Man in Blak Report post Posted July 17, 2002 *shrugs* That's pretty much what I said in the other post I made in the GNR thread - I figured it fit in here. But, if it makes you feel any better... I AM THE ORIGINAL GNR HATER I hated GNR before hating GNR was COOL
Guest thefrenchargel Report post Posted July 17, 2002 Aerosmith's "Love me Two Times" blows. Whoever did Procreation of the Wicked on the In Memory of Celtic Frost CD can go to hell, it's tuned to E for god's sake. Staind's Sober can go to Space Flying Tiger Hell...there should be a law against covering Tool, considering it's impossible to do so properly. I don't like GNR's covers at all, but they are LIGHTYEARS better than the Metallica covers of Sabbath..I've never heard songs butchered so badly. I have never and will never understand the obsession people have with those suckasses.
Guest starvenger Report post Posted July 17, 2002 the single worst cover in the history of music is william shatner's cover of 'lucy in the sky with diamonds'. It's hard to argue with that. Others I dislike: - Marilyn Manson's "Tainted Love" sounds pretty much like his cover of "Sweet Dreams". - Britney Spears' "I Love Rock and Roll". But then, she did it because she "loves Pat Benatar". What a ditzy slut. - those covers (not together, thank God) by Eddie Murphy and Bruce Willis (Dancin' in the Street?). I'm sure some of you know the ones I'm talking about.

Guest saturnmark4life Report post Posted July 17, 2002 i believe (as i said in the hated songs thread) the cover of Britney Spears' 'Crazy' by a british chick metal band called sugarcoma is the worst song ever commerically released. Bar none. At least Shatner had comic value.
Guest Rock Candy Report post Posted July 17, 2002 although Ozzy's cover of "STAYING ALIVE" is one of the greatest covers ever! Amen! I nearly drove off the road when I first heard it. It was on a Dweezil Zappa record that's been out of print forever. Too bad, though. It'd probably be a huge hit if re-released today. -Ben
Guest evenflowDDT Report post Posted July 17, 2002 Any covers involving Britney Spears. Also, I agree that Madonna's dance-pop cover of "American Pie" ruined the original spirit of the song. Never heard Shatner, Willis, or Eddie Murphy, but how about Bowie and Jagger's "Dancing in the Street"? Pretty bad... why do so many people feel the need to cover that song?
