Guest Army Eye Report post Posted February 19, 2002 One of the most memorable aspects of the original NWO angle was the fans filling the ring with garbage during the NWO beatdown at the end of shows. It just made for a really great visual. You'd have the bodies of some laid out wrestlers in the ring, trash flying everywhere and piling up in the ring, the NWO guys posing, sometimes the commentary table would be evacuated so you didn't even have commentary, etc. It just really helped to give the impression that the show was in total chaos and that WCW had completely lost control of the proceedings. In other words, putting over exactly what the NWO was setting out to do. I've wondered whether WCW 'encouraged' the trash throwing at the beginning of the angle. Now, I know that the trash throwing at Bash at the Beach '96 was spontaneous. But I wonder if WCW liked what they saw there, and tried to keep it going. Maybe in some of the following Nitros they planted a few people to throw some refuse during an NWO beatdown and hoped that the rest of the audience would follow suit (which they did, in spades). Probably not, but I've pondered it. They did a similar thing in '98 by piping in fake 'Goldberg' chants until the fans chanted it themselves. Whether WCW did this or not doesn't really matter though. What I'm thinking is: what if the WWF did this right now. You plant a few people with trash in hand and have them toss it into the ring when the time is right. See if the real fans join in the fun. Obviously you only do it at the end of a show so nobody has to wrestle in a messy, sticky ring. It's probably just wishful thinking. I have a feeling Vince McMahon doesn't want any kind of projectiles being thrown at his million-dollar investments. But oh well, I'd like to see the ol' trash again. It really made for some incredible, chaotic images at the end of so many Nitros.
Guest Cataclysm911 Report post Posted February 19, 2002 All I know is, the WWF said that they would never return to my city again because of fans throwing shit in the ring. That was 11 years ago, and they haven't been back since.
Guest Army Eye Report post Posted February 19, 2002 Oh yeah? Hmm. Was that a house show? And any particular reason for the trash throwing, or was it just a few people being dicks
Guest Cataclysm911 Report post Posted February 19, 2002 It was a house show, that meant something. It was weird. HBK won the IC title for the first time. Hogan, Warrior, The Undertaker were all there. It was just people being dicks, and the announcer said "Not to throw anything for safety sake" people did it again, so after the show, they said they wouldn't be back. I have to go to Chicago or Indy to see a show now
Guest joshicho Report post Posted February 19, 2002 Damn that sucks for your town. I don't think Vince will encorage it but wasn't there garbage thrown at WM2000?
Guest Tony149 Report post Posted February 19, 2002 I think Vince would want to see the fans throw garbage in the ring. So he would think the angle is working.
Guest Flair5000 Report post Posted February 19, 2002 There'll be enough garbage in the ring when the nWo wrestle.
Guest dreamer420 Report post Posted February 19, 2002 WWF Fans are smarter than that. They can get their message of how much they hate you across by just booing the shit out of them.
