Was I the only one to think that the whole segment of Hogan/Rock was a wasted hour?  Let me review:

-Hogan comes out and gives Standard Heel Promo #4.

-Rocky comes out and it's Pause-time, baby!

-Somewhere along the line, a WM match is mentioned; 5 more minutes of pauses.

-Rocky hits the urinate^h^hge on Hogan for no good reason, but at least the segment is over, so I can go to the bathroom.

-Oh, wait, it's not, they want to do Standard Heel Beatdown #6.  Fine by me, just get it over with.

-Rocky leaves in an ambulence, only to have it stopped and rammed.  At no time did I ever feel that Rock was in any danger, not being in there to begin with.

-Vignettes throughout the rest of the show about a second ambulence, and fuel leaks and other crap.

-JR and the King act like another Owen Hart just happened.

And yet the Net is raving "Best Raw Ever!!!!"

What's going to come out of this?  All the NWOians are old, and even when they were young, they sucked.   At best, we'll see Rocky v Hogan in this year's equivalent to Vince v Shane from last year--overbooked spotfest.  They'll never put on a good match, they'll never do a well-crafted invasion angle (How can you hire guys to invade your own company?), and they won't do any of the rebellious things that made people buy T-shirts.  They're a waste of space everyone thinks is cool.  If Hogan wants to end in the WWF, let him turn face and slam Big Show in the Midcard of Wrestlemania.  Then leave.  Or get betrayed by another friend, and come back to beat him.  Then leave.  But the leaving is key.   Instead, he gets to head a heel stable in the main event angle.  And he won't leave.  Oh, yeah.  Great Fricking Raw.

I'll admit I was marking out a bit for the beatdown on Rock, but then it dragged on to the point where we didn't have a match for at least 40 minutes, and then when we did have a match, it involved Godfather *shudder*.  It wouldn't have been that bad if they just took him away in the ambulance in the 1st place and not done all the other stuff.

I've not seen it yet cos I'm in the UK but it sounds like a mojorly cool RAW

I find it hilarious that someone who ends their post with "Wake me up when Benoit returns" has the audacity to call anyone else sheep.

People "mark out" for different things. A lot of people happened to "mark out" for the nWo/Rock stuff. Sometimes one segment can make a whole show seem good.

To create a interesting angle time has to be used.  If that whole thing happened in 5 minutes, how important does this Whole NWO thing look?  It was good writing.  And while you didn't like it, I bet very few of you turned during the whole thing.  I know that not a single casual veiwer did.  That is the entire point.  It was a well written segment, and it doesn't make the NWO look like a non-threat the way the 30 Alliance guys did....you know, that angle that a few months ago you guys said was blown because they didn't build up the Alliance right and it never looked like they would get the upper hand.

wow, some of you guys are bitter...

I thought it was a good segment, if a bit long.  They played a bit more to the live audience instead of the tv audience, but it was still cool.  And the nWo finally did the beat down they should of done on Austin at the ppv.  I could of done without the whole ambulence thing, but oh well.

Overall, i liked it.

The only thing I didn't like about the show last night was that it seemed like I was watching an episode of Nitro, circa late 1996.

One thing I don't understand is this:  The nWo beats Rocky up to the point that he is carried off in an ambulance.  They then stop the ambulance, beat it up, then ram it with a truck.  After they ram the truck into the ambulance, they then look into the back and get all concerned then run off.

Why?

If they're these big bad ass guys, why do they care what happened? and why would they run off?  It was all captured on tape.

And what were they expecting to happen??

Maybe I'm asking a little much OR I'm reading too much into it.

As much as I think Hogan blows, I have to think of it this way: at least we get something different than the same stale main event scene we've seen recently.

Also, the booking team actually set this match up 4-5 weeks in advance, instead of throwing it together on smackdown the thursday before, so maybe, despite the horrid possibility this match presents, it shows that the bookers are getting their heads out of their asses.

All I can say is it was an over hyped situation so the Rock can spend the next 3 weeks in Hollywood working on Promotions for his movie which comes out in April. How many of you haven't seen this from Hogan himself several times. He needing to leave so Vinnie gives him time off and stages some major accident where the Rock will be shown layed out in a Hospital Bed. (Probally already taped) and then a week before WM-18 he comes back and Scares the Shit out of Hogan and the NWO.

Seen it before... Will See it again.

Man, some of you guys are a hard sell. I thought that segment was excellent. The only problem I had was they went overboard with the truck smashing the ambulance 3 times. Once was good enough to get the point across. I guess doing it 3 times was the "over the line" effect they wanted. I wonder how much people actually like wrestling. Hogan returned to RAW for the first time in about a decade with a great interview interrupted by Rock. The NWO do a beatdown that gives at least some reason for people to believe they are the cancer the wrestlers and announcers were talking about. Hey, that segment in my opinion sold WM 18 much better than anything they did with Rock/Austin last year with that dumb Debra storyline. Hell, I was complaining about Triple H, but I even ended up saying he should facing Jericho at WM. I see the heat the wwf can create with Trips vs. NWO. If the wwf puts Trips in the NWO the heels might be TOO strong if they continue to do stuff like last night.

I'll tell you what makes this seem like WCW.

Back in the day after the NWO got there...there was a "dream match" on every card.

Hogan vs. Flair, Hogan vs. Sting, Hogan vs. Luger...substitute Nash, Hall, Hart, Piper, Savage in for Hogan...lather rinse repeat.

The problem is the failure to deliver in the ring.

For an angle to deliver...it has to have a god blow off.

Will Rock vs. Hogan be a good match?

Most likely not.

And that is why WCW went out of business.  Failure to deliver.

But who knows.

I swear I just watched RVD and Goldust in a good match....so you never know.

I agree with all who wish Hogan would just fade away. Man is he ever boring. I used to be a devoted Hulkamaniac but damn even I am freaking 31 now so Hogan must be about 75 or so, LOL.

Didn't think much of the skit last night it reminded me of Nitro as well.

I did like the segment.

It had a certain markout value.

The ambulance stuff actually hurt the promo IMO.

I guess it's one of three things...

1. They left before the Cops got there.

2. They couldn't belive what the did.

3. All of the above.

This will probably turn up like what happened with Hall, Nash & Syxx (X-Pac) did in WCW to the Steiners (Remember running them off the road and taping it?), nothing will happen.

In the course of two hours I saw the NWO, Goldust and Mr. Perfect. Exactly what year are we in again?

rsk I hope that's what they do because it will look really fake if we see Rock on Smackdown talking smack. Oh yeah, who says the wwf doesn't book in advance. Does anyone remember the RAW mag that "predicted" Rock would be challenged by a former WWF Champion around WM and would be taken out of the wwf, but would make a great comeback and get his biggest win at WM ever???

Guest suckfreecomix

I don't see the Rock winning at Mania.

That wouldn't do much to keep the NWO mometum going...

But he is in a position to win.

Being reminded of Nitro is a bad thing?  Heh.  Oh well.  I guess I probably liked the old Nitros more than most

This board has gone to hell since all these marks started showing up over the weekend.

This is the first time in a while i've been interested purchasing a PPV this far in advance.

Usually it's a case of, "Oh, i forgot, there's a payperview tonight. Maybe I can con some of my friends into laying down some money. Nah, that's too much work, i'll just get drunk and watch the simpsons."

Now I think people will be planning ahead of time to check this one out. It seems like an important event.

That seems like good business to me, kids.

Pfft. I think it's nice to see some differing opinions other than you and three other people complaining about the Rock and talking about HHH conspiracies to hold RVD down. It gets old quick.

I loved that Rock/Hogan segment and I'll admit I did mark out for it. As much as some of you may hate it, this Raw was one of the most interesting ones ever because of the nWo. Sure, the nWo is old is old news, but when that stable crosses fed into the WWF, it is fresh again. Image if WCW was still alive and DX was given a rebirth there, it would be huge too. The nWo has finally made something interesting in the WWF storylines and its gotten me to "mark" out for it.

Why?  Hogan returning in a WWF ring should have almost any long time wrestling fan marking out.

I'm sure the "marks" will tone it down once Hogan has been in the WWF a little longer and then you can go back to bitching about pushes, RVD, etc, etc..

"JR and the King act like another Owen Hart just happened. "

LOL, yeah they did oversell it, didn't they?

The segment was entertaining, just too damn long and drawn out.

And someone mentioned that it looked like the WWF booking committee had planned this 4-5 weeks in advance.  Yes it does.  I just wished they had been doing just that for the past year.  and maybe pay attention to the undercard.

Well I think the segment was damn good, and pretty hilarious. I think what might taint it, is that, 20-45 minute promos/interviews/challenges are a weekly thing on RAW so maybe the Hogan/Rock promo didn't seem that much more different or any better to some.  I just enjoyed this one better because every other line out of their mouthes wasn't a catchphrase, it was a more unscripted style.  I am not saying it was 100% improvised, but it sounded a lot better than, "Hogan, you are going to the smackdown blvd. on candyass street, and for dinner you get monkey crap, If ya smeeeeelllayaya...etc..." and the reply wasn't somethine like, "if ya wanna see a sumbitch get his ass kicked gimme hell yah.....if ya want to say hell yah one more time say hell yah...and that's the bottom line....."  Ya, you get the pattern here, and believe me, the actual quotes are almost as lame.

If WWF would just allow these 30 minute promos a little less, like maybe once a month or something, then each one would feel more special, but the tendency to start off EVERY raw with 25+ mins of this and that just ruins it...

Guest Army Eye
Posted

Yeah.. this was one time where a 20 minute promo was warranted.. and held everybody's interest the whole time.  Too bad they are done just about every week and are usually promos that could be condensed into five minutes

I loved the whole promo and the ambulance thing...

I hated all the over acting by The King and JR afterwards, it made me sick to my stomache seeing them treat it like the Owen Hart incedent. They always seem to take it too far.

Guest dreamer420

Afte the Owen Hart Tragedy they need to get away from the goddamn somber moments on Raw where JR and the King act like someone died.  It is in bad taste and also disrespectful to Owen and his family.
