Guest MrRant Posted July 17, 2002 Report Posted July 17, 2002 Which is the best? I have to go with Willy Wonka and the Chocolate factory over Wizard of Oz. Gene Wilder is the man.
Guest The Man in Blak Posted July 17, 2002 Report Posted July 17, 2002 Though it's more of a strict musical, where in the hell is Fiddler on the Roof?
Guest MrRant Posted July 17, 2002 Report Posted July 17, 2002 I forgot... and I guess I was going towards looser musicals. There are plenty of hardcore musicals out there as well.
Guest J*ingus Posted July 17, 2002 Report Posted July 17, 2002 West Side Story, Umbrellas of Cherbourg, and Moulin Rouge kicks half that list's ass.
Guest MrRant Posted July 17, 2002 Report Posted July 17, 2002 Again... fairly SERIOUS musicals. I am looking for mainstream stuff that included musical aspects and was based around the film.. not films based around musicals.
Guest J*ingus Posted July 17, 2002 Report Posted July 17, 2002 Okay, hmmm. How 'bout Wild Man Blues? Or would that not count, being a documentary?
Guest MrRant Posted July 17, 2002 Report Posted July 17, 2002 Goddamnit just vote for what is in the poll!!! j/king I was just picking from what I consider to be good mainstream films with a lot of musical content. I DO agree with you selections about West Side Story, etc as great musicals but I don't consider to really be a film as much as stage musical. I am also not a god of musicals as these are almost all the musicals I like so I am not familiar with each and every one of them unfortunatly.
Guest J*ingus Posted July 17, 2002 Report Posted July 17, 2002 OK. Of the ones in the poll, I'm split between Wizard of Oz and South Park. Oz was the better movie, but SP had better songs. Hmmm.
Guest MrRant Posted July 17, 2002 Report Posted July 17, 2002 Did you ever see the 5,000 Fingers Of Dr. T? That movie was really good. Scared the shit out of me when I was a kid though.
Guest godthedog Posted July 17, 2002 Report Posted July 17, 2002 well, when i saw this topic i thought 'oh, cool, i get to vote for "singin in the rain," i haven't gotten a chance to pimp that movie on this board yet', and...lo and behold, 'singin in the rain', widely considered to be the greatest musical ever and one of the best MOVIES ever, isn't on the list. i say we give up on the poll and everybody just says which musical is their favorite.
Guest starvenger Posted July 17, 2002 Report Posted July 17, 2002 Voted for Wizard of Oz, because it's STILL a pretty good movie and it was pretty mind-blowing at the time. Plus you can't go wrong with winged monkeys.
Guest C.H.U.D. Posted July 17, 2002 Report Posted July 17, 2002 I like South Park, Nightmare Before Christmas and Little Shop of Horrors (remake).
Guest MrRant Posted July 17, 2002 Report Posted July 17, 2002 well, when i saw this topic i thought 'oh, cool, i get to vote for "singin in the rain," i haven't gotten a chance to pimp that movie on this board yet', and...lo and behold, 'singin in the rain', widely considered to be the greatest musical ever and one of the best MOVIES ever, isn't on the list. i say we give up on the poll and everybody just says which musical is their favorite. Probably a good idea.
Guest evenflowDDT Posted July 17, 2002 Report Posted July 17, 2002 From what's in the poll? Probably Willy Wonka or Wizard of Oz. Of all the musicals ever? I really really like Hedwig and the Inch...
Guest 5_moves_of_doom Posted July 17, 2002 Report Posted July 17, 2002 Where the FUCK is Little Shop of Horrors? I refuse to vote.
Guest dreamer420 Posted July 18, 2002 Report Posted July 18, 2002 my two favourites are south park: bigger, longer, and uncut and cannibal: the musical. both from trey parker and matt stone and both are hilarious.
Guest Kinetic Posted July 18, 2002 Report Posted July 18, 2002 I haven't seen many musicals. I can recite the lyrics to most of the songs from "Grease" off the top of my head, though, so that gets a sentimental nod.
Guest Vern Gagne Posted July 18, 2002 Report Posted July 18, 2002 The Musicman is my all time favorite
Guest Vern Gagne Posted July 18, 2002 Report Posted July 18, 2002 Slightly of topic In the Wizard of Oz is Elvira Gulch killed by the Tornado.I assume so, because Dorothy see's the witches shoes under the house.
Guest DARRYLXWF Posted July 18, 2002 Report Posted July 18, 2002 I thought it was Universally recognized that 'Singin' in the Rain' was the greatest musical ever.' As far as storyline goes, Oklahoma was one of the greats, then theres Brigadoon, American in Paris, South Pacific etc
Guest red_file Posted July 18, 2002 Report Posted July 18, 2002 A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum. Soudheim at his best and funniest.
Guest redbaron51 Posted July 18, 2002 Report Posted July 18, 2002 Tommy. Best Musical/Rock Opera ever
Guest J*ingus Posted July 18, 2002 Report Posted July 18, 2002 ::Jingus stares at redbaron and Verne in incomprehension over their choices, and sloooowly backs away.::
Guest Grenouille Posted July 18, 2002 Report Posted July 18, 2002 Out of the choices in the poll I'd give my vote to South Park. In my mind though, the best musical movie would be 1776 starring Mr. Feeny of Boy Meets World fame as John Adams.
Guest Intimacy Goblin Posted July 19, 2002 Report Posted July 19, 2002 Out of the poll choices, I'd have to say South Park takes it, but for others, I'm apalled that no one has mentioned the following: My Fair Lady (Rex Harrison is badass) Rent Jekyll & Hyde As I type I realize that only one of the three was actually a true movie, but fuck it. They are all excellent.
Guest pochorenella Posted July 19, 2002 Report Posted July 19, 2002 What's the matter with you people? Vote for Grease, dammit! Olivia Newton-John dressed in black rules! And I hate The Wizard of Oz.
Guest C.H.U.D. Posted July 19, 2002 Report Posted July 19, 2002 What about Paint Your Wagon? No one can belt out the tunes like Clint Eastwood.
Guest Shaved Bear Posted July 19, 2002 Report Posted July 19, 2002 South Park, it was a musical, and its plot wasnt as lame as every other one of those
