Guest saturnmark4life Report post Posted July 17, 2002 well, i was never their biggest fan or anything but it is noticeable how they've gradually got worse with the same riff in pretty much every tune now.
Guest Incandenza Report post Posted July 17, 2002 The band has spent several years making stupid kiddie punk, so in what sense have they sold out? It's the same ol' shit, as far as I'm concerned.
Guest Edwin MacPhisto Report post Posted July 17, 2002 I don't think they sold out, really. They got some better producers, and continued to make lousy music. "Selling out" is inconsequential when your original efforts kinda suck anyway.
Guest Youth N Asia Report post Posted July 17, 2002 No, they didn't sell out...but the music's gotten worse
Guest chirs3 Report post Posted July 17, 2002 Agreed. Not much selling out going on, but their music has been going downhill... fast.
Guest Mindless_Aggression Report post Posted July 17, 2002 Incandenza said it the best...they've always sucked donkey.

Guest Shaved Bear Report post Posted July 17, 2002 they do suck...doesnt matter whether they sold out or not
Guest evenflowDDT Report post Posted July 17, 2002 Although their music was always pretty bad, I'll admit I liked a couple songs off '97's Dude Ranch... I hate the band but I will admit that (who, me, a hypocrite? probably...). However, they have also definitely sold out in the sense that ever since MTV jumped on the bandwagon, they've whored out themselves to every pop magazine and show to get 13-year old girls to wear "punk rock" stickers and buy their CDs. That's a fact... before they were just uninspired musicians, now they're uninspired musicians and blatant "pop stars" in the worst sense of the word.
Guest SuperTonyJaymz Report post Posted July 17, 2002 man am I the only blink 182 fan? Scary...they didn't sell out, theyve always kicked ass. flame away, if you see fit
Guest Incandenza Report post Posted July 17, 2002 This kind of reminds me of all those Weezer fans who claimed the band sold out when they didn't put out another mope record after Pinkerton. Jesus Christ, it has ALWAYS been Rivers Cuomuo's goal to sell as many albums and reach as broad an audience as possible--even with Pinkerton. Hell, I like the friggin' band (Maladroit sucks, though), but I can't stand all those fans that jack off whenever they hear the opening notes of "Across the Sea." Guest chirs3 Report post Posted July 17, 2002 I don't think Blink has always sucked, they've had some good songs on every album. The problem is, since Dude Ranch, the number of good songs on each album gets lower... and lower... and lower...
Guest EQ Report post Posted July 18, 2002 Where is the "Who Cares" option? I'm not trying to make your poll seem less significant, I just feel... who are we to judge whether they sold out or not? Let's say they did. Why should it matter to you? I like their music. I haven't listened to that Box Car Racer CD, but the I enjoyed Take off your pants and Jacket. I'm a fan of the band, and whether they sold out is irrelevant to me. I voted no.
Guest mesepher Report post Posted July 18, 2002 I feel those dorks never had any dignity to begin with, therefore they could not sell out, technically. who are we to judge whether they sold out or not? We are rabid music fans out for blood!
Guest EQ Report post Posted July 18, 2002 I see your point. I suppose if anyone were to judge whether or not they sold out, it would be the fans... But I still say: it shouldn't matter. You either like their music, or you don't
Guest Sebastian_the_Bastard Report post Posted July 18, 2002 I don't think they sold out. Though it's hard to me to say that, because it seems that the Mark songs on the album are going out to pre-teen girls and the Tom songs are saying "yeah, be punk, be rebellious!" Though I agree with the many people who say they have declined after Dude Ranch... but there's no doubt that Enema does rock out. It's a great CD. TOYPAJ has it's songs... but, well, I rarely listen to it. It's expendable. But to the ones who said "they have always sucked." Well, I think you are dead wrong there. They have some really good songs and some really good CDs. One saying they've always sucked is ignorant. They are good for what they're worth. I love you all, Sebastian the Bastard
Guest Phr33k Report post Posted July 18, 2002 Who cares if they've sold out or not? If a sell-out band makes a GOOD song, whereas a band who hasn't sold out makes a BAD song, I'm leaning in favour of the sell-outs. Plus, if somebody told me that I could make a gajillion dollars by "selling out", I'd do it. I'm sure that Blink-182 can think about that while they're counting their millions. Selling out should have no effect on the output of the band in general. They should just be doing the same old things, except some big corporate giant is sending them big fat cheques for it. If that's the case, go ahead and sell out. However, if the output of the band is drastically effected for the worse, then we can make a case against the wrongness (Wrongnity? Wrongnocity?) of the selling out. It's the music that matters.
Guest Mikey2Dope Report post Posted July 18, 2002 No they haven't sold out. My definition of a sell-out is someone who signs a big money contract and then changes their music style to please the record producers. Blink 182 may be on the radio and may be constantly on MTV and MuchMusic but have sounded pretty much the same throughout all their albums. I hate people that call artists sell-outs because they sign big money contracts but have the same music style as they always did. They didn't quit their day jobs to be poor. Here's a quote from Mark Hoppus(Bass/Vocals) on the subject: "We've done the same things that we were doing in the begining, and we never wanted our band to stay small. I mean, we want our band to be as big as it can, and I'm not going to die wondering about some kid that calls us a sell-out at a show. I don't have a problem being on MTV, and I don't have a problem being on the radio. I actually like it. So there. And anyone that calls me a sell out is just jealous."
