Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted July 18, 2002 Report Posted July 18, 2002 Hall wins with an Edge. with the exception of some decent out of the ring brawling to start...it looked like every other Hall match. And now Lawler and Krush are getting their heat back. Welcome to Russoville. Population Zero.
Guest HartFan86 Posted July 18, 2002 Report Posted July 18, 2002 Everyone is going to the hospital tonight. JEFF JARRETT WAS DRESSED AS AN EMT! YES
Guest HartFan86 Posted July 18, 2002 Report Posted July 18, 2002 That was quite the ending. You guys think we'll get Hall vs. Jarrett next week?
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted July 18, 2002 Report Posted July 18, 2002 Well...it didn't take long for Russo to tank that one. I can't blame him for Estrada looking foolish or the Styles/LowKi dissapointment... but a midget match followed by a womens match? Hall/Lawler is the main event? Where was my surprise worth ten dollars? DAMN IT! RUSSO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Guest Raven_Effect01 Posted July 18, 2002 Report Posted July 18, 2002 Well...it didn't take long for Russo to tank that one. I thought this week's NWA-TNA wasn't as good as the previous weeks. Styles vs. Lo Ki surprisingly was more like a UFC match on the ground with some strikes, which I didn't get into at all and made the match disappointing. Hall vs. Brian Lawler was a lame main-event, which shows Hall's deterioration in the ring as he didn't really do a lot in the match except for too many punches. And where was the surprise? What a let-down. Jerry Jarrett should get Russo out before he starts to ruin his promotion like he did to WCW, otherwise we're left with the sub-par WWE to watch again.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted July 18, 2002 Report Posted July 18, 2002 I'll tell you what. I'm Jerry JArrett...and Russo comes to my office and says: Alright...we'll do a midget match where they hit each other with food...then move right into a women's match with two untrained valets. I say: You're fired.
Guest Chuck Woolery Posted July 18, 2002 Report Posted July 18, 2002 For a first time TNAer, that was a dissapointment. I missed week two and week for... so I get the bad week? Oh well. I can't order again... but, for what was there, it was worth $7.50. Not the $15.00 I paid (damn you to hell, DirecTV.) - Mike Van Siclen. DierectTV
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted July 18, 2002 Report Posted July 18, 2002 Perhaps they only do good on even numbered shows? Kinda like Star Trek movies. DAMN YOU VINCE RUSSO!!!!!!!!
Guest 4Life Posted July 18, 2002 Report Posted July 18, 2002 What's with all this porn? Jasmine, midget masturbating, "i like your lips" by dupp? WtF? This is a disgrace. If they think they can sell this product on regular TV, they're very mistaken. I give this show thumbs down just for this.

Guest Downhome Posted July 18, 2002 Report Posted July 18, 2002 Now the rumors of Vince sending Russo to NWA-TNA to destroy it, just as he "did" to WCW, begins!
Guest Indy Posted July 18, 2002 Report Posted July 18, 2002 Thank lord My Satalite went out when this came on
Guest Chuck Woolery Posted July 18, 2002 Report Posted July 18, 2002 There was some saving points... - K-Krush's promo was enjoyable. - Styles/Lynn's promo was enjoyable. - Elvises/Skipper-Daniels was good. - Goldilocks is hot as FUCK. Other than that, you have Raw fodder. - Mike Van Siclen. Word foo'
Guest cabbageboy Posted July 18, 2002 Report Posted July 18, 2002 This was the first NWA show I've seen and I really enjoyed it, though it sounds like I am the only one. I am a big Sabu mark though so I was happy to see him. I liked most of the X division stuff but it seemed that the crowd was distracted during the X title match. It was still better than most Raws lately, but if they want a TV deal they outta tone down the bad language and all that.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted July 18, 2002 Report Posted July 18, 2002 Before tonight they used the word Bullshit a few times. The rest came with Russo.
Guest Edwin MacPhisto Posted July 18, 2002 Report Posted July 18, 2002 I can't order PPV stuff while I'm home from college (grr lack of cable box, grr), so I'm wondering: has anyone seen anything from the TNA shows on Kazaa or WinMX? I haven't seen a match from Daniels, Skipper, or Lynn in ages, and I'm dying to check out some of this X division action.
Guest ShooterJay Posted July 18, 2002 Report Posted July 18, 2002 It wasn't actively BAD, it just wasn't as good as last week. Sabu/Malice was entertaining, Elvises v. Daniels/Skipper would have been really good if Estrada didn't blow those spots. Styles/Ki was solid, but not the blow-away ****1/2+ match everyone expected. Krush cut a great promo. The sticking point is that the midget/women's segments almost killed the show dead, where we could have seen talent like the Briscoes, York/Matthews, Lynn, or Corino.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted July 18, 2002 Report Posted July 18, 2002 The good thing that came out of this show...more than ANYTHING is how many feuds and angles they have built up. The NWA title gains credability in my book by how many people want it. It's the opposite of the WWE where 1 guy wants it...but only for a month...then the next contender wants it. JJ wants it Sabu wants it Takao Omori wanted it Malice wants it Hell...Monty Brown wants it... The Lynn vs. Styles feud is still the best angle so far this year in all of wrestling. And they built that up nice. Something that I really like is K-Krush getting pushed. I like K-Krush. I think he has invented himself very nicely.
Guest nikowwf Posted July 18, 2002 Report Posted July 18, 2002 I wasn't going to but I threw down my $10 and got it. Ugh. Thanks Russo. How many people do you think he turned off with that show? What was with all the smut? Just let the damn X guys wrestle, why is this so hard? After the midget and women crap the crowd is so dead that styles / lo-ki suffered. I hate Russo. If he kills this too like he killed WCW i may have to hunt him down. Niko
Guest Angle2004 Posted July 18, 2002 Report Posted July 18, 2002 Why are you so damn ignorant? The X wrestlers are awesome but if the entire show consisted of them doing nothing but 30-minute matches then the only people that would order would be you internet fans and TNA would be out of business in a week. The midget stuff was horrible (they were doing the midget stuff before Russo joined the company) but the women's stuff was ok. They need to do tna in order to attract other viewers. No one had a problem when ECW did it. Same with the cursing. The cursing brings excitement to a feud just like it did to Lynn/Styles last night. The matches were long enough last night and it was a good mix of wrestling/entertainment (with the exception of the midget stuff which was bad.) You can whine all you want about just wanting to see wrestling matches but its not going to happen because TNA can't make money just off of internet fans.

No offense to you, and I do respect your opinion, but that statement isn't true at all. As long as they gave some sort of meaning to the matches, then they would be totally fine. If you ask me, I think a show consisting of solid buildup for those 30 minute matches would do great business, especially for a new company like NWA-TNA. By the way... ...coming on here and starting a post out by asking "why are you so damn ignorant?" is not very mature, and makes you look even that much more less of a poster that matters, just so you know.
Guest Ripper Posted July 18, 2002 Report Posted July 18, 2002 Estrada didn't blow that many spots...I counted 2...and the 2 he blew were really tough. That was the match of the night. And I am not sure what to call that finisher but jeebus, that was something. I really enjoyed the Lo Ki/Styles match. It wasn't as great as I thought it would be, but it had some really nice spots and great selling so go for it. You have to mark for Lynn Styles fued. The womens thing was short enough that I wasn't bothered by it. The midgets...dear god. When I pay for something and turn, you know it has to be bad. Puppet is the man on the mike though. Ok...Stan Dupp...I get it....Fluff Dupp....I get it...Bo Dupp???/ What the hell does that mean. K-Krushes promo was pretty damn good. He works as a yelling psycho. Hall/Lawler was as good as you could expect. Sabu/Malice was enjoyable. Overall, it wasn't great, but better than WWE has been for a while.
Guest Just call me Dan Posted July 18, 2002 Report Posted July 18, 2002 Hall had seriously better step it up because this fed really doesn't need a guy to half ass his matches at the top of the card. I have a lot of faith in this promotion, I really do, but Russo is not the way to go. You have stars needing to be established, needing time in the ring, needing that precious opportunity to do what they can do. Russo restrains that by taking those guys with so much capability in the ring and holding them back with angles and schmoz finishes and gimmicks. For a guy who isn't so great in the ring, being booked like that can give you some heat and turn you into something. But all these guys thrown in these quick match nothing but angle driven matches is hurting them and keeping good wrestling from shining through. Good wrestling should be the #1 priority, but with Russo it is shocking characters. Russo is not the answer by any means. Why are you so damn ignorant? The X wrestlers are awesome but if the entire show consisted of them doing nothing but 30-minute matches then the only people that would order would be you internet fans and TNA would be out of business in a week. Great, another Angle kiss ass who's opinion is the only one that matters.
Guest TheDames7 Posted July 18, 2002 Report Posted July 18, 2002 *coughcheapplug* I'd like your guys reaction on my NWA review, positive or negative, either way. Dames
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted July 18, 2002 Report Posted July 18, 2002 It pales in comparison to my TNA primer and week 5 preview. Other than that...thumbs up.
Guest Angle2004 Posted July 18, 2002 Report Posted July 18, 2002 Downhome, you're right about what you said. Saying that someone was ignorant was stupid on my part and I'm sorry about it. About the 30 minute matches - I still disagree. The masses will not lay down ten bucks a month to just watch 30-minute wrestling matches. The guy I responded to, Nikowwf, was talking about how they should just let the X wrestlers wrestle. He didn't say anything about buildup. He just wanted the wrestling and that will not work for the masses. Like I said - I like the X wrestlers just as much as the next guy but if Styles/Low Ki would go 30 minutes doing what they did last night would be pretty bad and boring. IF they put on the type of wrestling they did in the six-man tag on the first show then it would work for thirty minutes. But I don't know if they can rely on the guys to put on that kind of match every time. I think that there needs to be time for interviews because that's how characters develop. They really need to build the character. You have to remember that most people don't really know who a lot of these guys are. Krush and Lawler cut good interviews and really developed their personalities. That's what needs to be done. If you look at last night's show the only thing that really needs to be cut out is the midget and women stuff. Actually, they could still have the tna but just tweak it a little. Other than that I thought it was a great show. The setup to the Sabu vs. Malice match was done really well. The Jerry Lynn/AJ Styles feud is tremendous. I think that all the cursing brings more emotion to the feud and makes it more exciting. Like I said before, K-Krush and Lawler are really coming along. Jarret is doing great. Shamrock showed some great emotion in the opening segment. The New Church group is really good. Overall, They have some really good stuff going but they need to cut some of the smut and the midget stuff.
Guest massivHEDtrauma Posted July 19, 2002 Report Posted July 19, 2002 Letting the X Division guys wrestle for 30 minutes per show might be a bit excessive, but I see what Niko was getting at, and I agree. Give meaning to the matches, wrestle, give more meaning, wrestle again, promo, wrestle, ambush backstage, wrestle. This is called a good feud, and it's something that the WWE doesn't seem to get anymore. This is supposed to be wrestling dammit, and I really think that if all the matches every week were 15-20 minutes long with a 30 minute main event, the buy rates would really increase. Hell, that's basically what ECW always did, and it worked (well, semi-worked anyways). Sure, ECW had some lewd behavior and whatnot, but they never had anything like a freakin' midget masturbating in a garbage can. That's just about the most tasteless thing I can think of right at the moment and probably one of the stupidest ideas Russo has no doubt ever come up with (aside from Mark Henry/Mae Young thing, that was Russo right?). Ah well, just thought I'd throw my two cents in there. Sabu against Shamrock? Submission vs. Ladder? That assures my purchase next week, masturbating midget or not.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted July 19, 2002 Report Posted July 19, 2002 Why is it that Sabu vs. Shamrock makes both you and me want to order? That's crazy!!! I don't really like either guy that much...but put them against each other and I'm in. Crazy.
