Guest Mindless_Aggression Report post Posted July 17, 2002 Okay, so a friend of mine was babbling about this game earlier and was desperatley trying to explain the storyline to me. He kept noting it was great but the best part was the "sanity meter" I believe he said. Now usually, I can pick stuff up on the first explanation but A: This just sounded confusing/improbable and B: He barely speaks proper English (For Shizzle! Dis game off da hizook the sanity meter fuckin wipe you crackah ass out!) So, if anyone would please take the time to explain the storyline and Sanity meter shit to me, i'd be much obliged. I'll be back in 6 hours, I expect 7 responses, no more, no less. Well maybe more.
Guest EQ Report post Posted July 17, 2002 Basically... as your character comes into contact with all the weird monsters in the game, he/she loses some sanity (represented by the meter). As your sanity meter gets lower, weird things start to happen. Your character starts to hallucinate, and the game starts to screw with you. For example, you'll start to hear voices in the background... the walls will start to bleed. There are a good amount of sanity effects in the game, those are just a couple. You can recover sanity by killing enemies or by casting magic spells. If your sanity gets too low, you'll start to lose health.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Report post Posted July 18, 2002 This game is great. And the Sanity Effects rock. My friend and I sat and played through it and the sanity effects were getting me so frustrated that I started yelling at him for not telling me that there were zombies in the next room. That turned out to be a sanity effect. Damn youse!!!!!
Guest Just call me Dan Report post Posted July 18, 2002 Ok but all those effects that shut off the system, etc, do you have to start over or do you actually get to keep playing and it just kind of makes you jump?
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Report post Posted July 18, 2002 You keep going. It'll go into a reboot sequence and just when you're like...what the fuck? IT comes back on.
Guest Just call me Dan Report post Posted July 19, 2002 That is pretty cool. It is one of those games that I wish I knew nothing about and played, but I couldn't resist asking questions because everyone shilled for this game so much. I'll have to pick it up when I purchase the Gamecube, thanks.
Guest EQ Report post Posted July 20, 2002 Unfortunately, it's much better when you don't know any of the insanity effects... because now you probably won't be caught off guard
Guest Jobber of the Week Report post Posted July 20, 2002 The insanity effects like MUTE and the reset and so on are just too gimmicky. The "should that be like that?" effects like the footsteps and the screaming and stuff is what makes the game creepy.
Guest KANE Report post Posted July 22, 2002 I disagree. The stuff where the game plays YOU is what makes ED novel.
Guest Jobber of the Week Report post Posted July 22, 2002 I disagree. The stuff where the game plays YOU is what makes ED novel. Exactly. And it's at it's best where things are happening that you aren't sure are supposed to happen. "Is that muffled scream really a person? Did I just hear footsteps? No, there couldn't be anything there..." I am unimpressed by a giant "MUTE" in the corner that looks nothing like my TV's mute, nor the gimmicky pranks that are obviously fake. Guest EQ Report post Posted July 22, 2002 I liked those gimmicky effects. Like the one where there were a bunch of zombies in the room and then you got a message saying the controller wasn't reckognized... they kept coming at you... that got me for a sec, especially since I hadn't saved in a while.
