he was dominent in matches not featuring himself and the undertaker and he was a pretty sneaky heel, mainly due to harvey whippleman. for an old school heel I would say he did all right. his matches were fucking horrible but he still looked like a force.

My choices for the best old school heels

1. Jake Roberts: All time best heel, no question about it

2. Roddy Piper: Show me someone who drew more heat then Piper did in his prime

3. Randy Savage: Knew how to make people hate him....ex. The way he costed Warrior the strap at RR '92

4. Ric Flair: If the people didn't want to cheer him, he'd be the best heel of all time

5. Raven: Drew massive heat in his early WCW days....the Jake influence didn't hurt either

(These are in no particular order)

Far and away, Rick Rude has got to be the choice. His persona has been stolen by so many other heels it's not even funny.

His work in Texas was awesome, it was so hilarious to see the toothless white trash in the Sportatorium giving him the thumbs-down and spitting while yelling. Then he went to WCW where he teamed with Manny Fernandez as one of the most underrated heel tag teams of all time. And of course his work as a heel in WWF was priceless.

My votes go to Rick Rude and Tully Blanchard. Master heels, without a doubt.

When I was younger, when I first started getting into wrestling, I hated these guys. I mean absolutely HATED them. I would have easily have paid good money (and did, time and time again, or at least my parents did for me) to see them get their asses beaten. After all, isn't that what the wrestling business is all about?

As someone mentioned before, Rude's act has been copped so many times that it's like like heel shorthand now. Well, same goes for Blanchard. Both of these guys were so good at what they did that they've been copied again and again by later generations of heels.

Blanchard had the cocky, badass, "I've got the money, I've got the honeys, I'm richer than you, smarter than you and better than you" heel act down. Absolutely down. He used to call himself "The highest paid athlete in the world." That always killed me. To get a sense of what it was like, think the Rock's old "800 dollar shirt" schtick, except back in the eighties, done in front of mostly southern, middle class crowds (of which I was a part). I had a chance to see Blanchard live a few times years ago, and even though I was a kid I still remember the crowds going absolutely apeshit any time the face would get his hands of Blanchard. They wanted that man's blood. I mean, the man used to put up cash purses for his matches for God's sake. How cool is that? Even cooler than that was everytime he cut a promo in NWA (always accompained by Babydoll and J.J. Dillion), he was always listed on screen as "Tully Blanchard Enterprises." That's the best.

Add good promo skills and great ring work, and you get two of the best heels of all time.

Honorable mentions: Ted DiBiase (I hated the rich prick) and Arn Anderson (Scary. Great DDT. Amazing promos.)

Some Great Old-School Heel Tag Teams:

The Dynamic Duo (Chris Adams and Gino Hernandez) ... I don't know if it was just because how much the fans loved the Von Erichs or what, but I remember how much of a pop the fans gave when Adams and Gino had their heads shaved.

The Fabulous Freebirds ... they were the main heels in both Texas and the original UWF. And I mean the real Freebirds, with Bamm-bamm Gordy, PS Hayes, and Buddy Roberts, not the one with Garvin. Although Jimmy Garvin himself has to be considered for the list.

The Road Warriors (AWA era) ... the team started a frigging riot by hitting Curt Hennig over the head with a chair while he was doing the "hangmans spot" in the ropes.

Exactly. How could you take a guy like that seriously as a human being, let alone a great heel? The guy was horrible.

Ted DiBiase.

He told a kid he'd give him a $1,000,000 if he bounced a ball 10 times in a row. He kicked the ball after 9.

Simple. Pure. Evil.

God I loved it.

I was always partial to Nikita Koloff as a heel in the mid 80's...looking back now, he was definitly not so impressive physically, but at the time he was one bad ass mofo.

Then they had to kill him and make him Magnum TA's freakin butler after the accident...and dont even get me started on his hi-top fade "I Love America" comback...

sheesh
