Guest pinnacleofallthingsmanly Report post Posted July 18, 2002 What guys in sports would you want on your team? Not for any specific sport, but just in general what guys would you want on your team and why? PHIL JACKSON - He's the first coach that I can think of off the top of my head. He's a good leader, stands up for his guys and seems to know how to motivate a team. He also seems to know his shit. WAYNE GRETZKY - I would want him on my team because during his NHL career, he could score goals and get assists. He wasn't the biggest and baddest hockey player in the world, just the best. KYLE TURLEY - People might not like the fact that he ripped someone's helmet off and threw it down the field, but I would want him on my team. The guy that tried to turn Kurt Warner into Linda Blair found out what happens when you mess with Kyle's teammates. Can't hurt to have a guy like that on your team. PETE ROSE - I have to give the guy points just for hustling so much. Has anyone ever seen him sprint to first base on a walk? He might have been overdoing it, but the guy husteld his ass off. In my opinion, a guy that wants to hustle is a guy that wants to win. JOHN RANDLE - I wouldn't want to go against the guy. MICHAEL JORDAN - I want to leave the guy off the list because I don't know if I would want to be his teammate,. The guy wants to win, and he usually does it. He might not always hit the game winning shot, but he usually does and he also does other things to win games. A couple of things specifically made reconsider adding him to my list. In Game 6 of the NBA Finals in 1998, Jordan stole the ball from Karl Malone, went back down court and hit the shot to win the game. He made a defensive play and went back down court and hit the game winning shot. He wasn't going to be denied that win. He also scored alot of points down that closing stretch. Game 5 of the 1997 NBA Finals was the game where Jordan played the game with flu-like symptoms. You know the story: Jordan got food poisoning and was up all night vomiting. He had to drink coffee to keep himself awake, which dehydrated him. At halftime, he drank Gatorlode (a post workout drink) instead of Gatorade, leaving him bloated. He still went out there and played brilliantly to help his team win the game. He came out of retirement to help the Wizards win, and still showed what he could do. He almost took his team to the playoffs and still showed the late game magic. Whether it was hitting shots at the buzzer, or pinning shots against the backboard to win games, Jordan got it done. He's also a guy that never takes a day off. That is all for now.
Guest Redhawk Report post Posted July 19, 2002 Shaquille O'Neal -- Most physically dominant player in any sport Jason Kidd -- Best passer in the game since Magic Johnson Michael Jordan -- Money with the game on the line Randy Moss -- Can score at anytime, from anywhere Marshall Faulk -- When in doubt, go to him Ray Lewis -- Dominates the field Barry Bonds -- If he doesn't hit a home run, it's because they walked him Mariano Rivera -- Forget last year's World Series. When he comes in, it's OVER.
Guest pinnacleofallthingsmanly Report post Posted July 19, 2002 I forgot about Ray Lewis. That guy seems to be everywhere, and he plays with a lot of intensity. I also overlooked Mariano Rivera. The guy has the one of the most stressful jobs in sports. He is put in the game to win it for them, and he gets it done almost every time.
Guest the pinjockey Report post Posted July 19, 2002 I am going to go with a few different names than the norm. Jason Richardson - He may be the most entertaining man in the NBA within the next couple of years. He could pack seats for the next ten years. Shane Battier - Just because he seems like a class act which is a rarity in sports. Trevor Hoffman - I will take him over Mariano just because he has performed just as good in a situation with no real chance at success. It is less pressure but for someone to keep up stellar performance on a losing team shows me character. Donovan McNabb- Proved he can carry a team with little offensive talent to the playoffs. David Akers - Personal Philly favorite. Here is a kicker who sells out to tackle guys and is arguably the best kicker in the league. He is just awesome. Ilya Kovalchuk - Everytime he played the Flyers he just killed them and apparently it was not just the flyers.

Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted July 19, 2002 These are the guys I feel will help me win a Championship. -Bob Gibson-intimating pitcher who strived in big game situations. -Sandy Koufax-almost unhittable for a 6 year span. Pitched 2 shutouts in the '65 World Series. -Derek Jeter.A-Rod, and Nomar might be the better hitters, but Jeter comes up big in the playoffs. Diving into the stands, cutting of the relay to nail Giambi, that game tieing home run. -Mariano Rivera.Dominate when it matters most. Try mixing in a slider every once in awhile. -Joe Torre. Save the mistake of having Jeter playing in, something Torre wishes he could take back, he gets the most out of his team next to Phil Jackson. -Phil Jackson. Like Torre, Jackson has won when he's suppose to. IMO...it's harder to win when your supose to and Jackson and Torre both have done that. -Patrick Roy.In most years, comes up big in the big game. He's got 4 rings to back it up. -Micheal Jordan. Goes without saying -Shaq. A Man amongst boys. -Kobe Bryant. Shaq is the most dominate, Kobe the most clutch. -Bill Russell. The leader of the Celtics Dynasty. A great rebounder, and defender. Guest Jerome Drake Report post Posted July 19, 2002 Patrick Roy is so overrated. I mean he is a good goalie, but not the greatest goalie. He's been on very good teams. I feel Martin Brouder is a lot better.
Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted July 19, 2002 Patrick Roy is one the best big games goalies in NHL history. I never said he was the best goalie ever, just the one I'd want in net in Game 7.
Guest undisputedjericho Report post Posted July 22, 2002 Paul O'Niell: Most intense player I've ever seen. Orlando Hernadez: Money post-season pitcher with a very sneaky arm Randy Johnson: One of the most dominating pitchers ever Andy Pettitte: A fierce competitor with a nasty stare and the best pickoff move in the game Ichiro Sazkui: ESPN showed one night that he has five totally different swings. Has he ever had an 0-for-the day? Torii Hunter: I've been trying to get him on my fantasy teams. The guy can be like '95-'98 Griffey was someday (soon, too). Vladamir Guerrero: One of the most over looked and under rated, a true powerhouse. Ivan Rodriguez: Money behind the dish. George Steinbrenner: He has a wallet and is not afraid to use it. Billy Beane/Brian Cashman: Look at the job they've done in Oakland/New York.

Guest Some Guy Report post Posted July 22, 2002 Jim Thome: The Sox need a power hitting 1B. I think he has the most playoff HRs ever, the guy is clutch. He is an avg. 1B and strikes out a lot, but 50 HR and 135 RBI make up for it. Pedro Martinez: (He is alrady on my team) The guy just gets it done in the big games like noone else, game 5 of the 99 ALDS, 6 no hit innings, 1 hit and 17 Ks against the Yanks, has never lost in the playoffs. Just dominent. Alfonso Soriano: I don;t see the limit to his potential. He will be one of the best ever. Power, speed, avg., RBI, scary bat speed, if his defense improves even more he will be the best 2B ever or damn close. Scott Brosius, Paul O'Neal, and Tino Martinez: Unbelievable in the post season. Barry Zito: Young and great already, tons of future potenial. Curt Schilling: If last year's WS didn't convince people of his greatness, look at his numbers this year. There are more, but I don;t feel like listing them right now.
