Guest Dangerous A Report post Posted July 19, 2002 Try to find a sports bar that actually shows WWE ppvs. I lucked out and found one where I live and they don't do a cover charge. You really get a feel of what marks are responding to since 98% of the people there are marks. Plus you can get drunk and that is what is needed to enjoy a WWE ppv this year. Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Report post Posted July 19, 2002 I haven't gone to a bar for wrestling since the ppv where Owen died. That was a crowd killer. I'd assume the crowd wouldn't be much more into it now.
Guest Dangerous A Report post Posted July 19, 2002 Probrably depends on the region. Since I am living in Sacramento (partial hick town) there are fairly strong reactions to things on the show. I just find it fascinating watching the reactions of marks and that's why I suggested it. Also interesting if you can get a conversation started with a mark and pass yourself off as a mark. I do this to see what the line of thinking is on the streets i.e. marks.
Guest Kingpk Report post Posted July 19, 2002 I remember seeing Summerslam 2000 at a sports bar. There were these 3 guys (and a few of my friends) who decided to take a drink for every spot during TLC. Suffice to say, I was the designated driver that night. BTW, the place was called The Charlie Horse, it's in West Bridgewater, MA. Great place.

Guest myburninghammer Report post Posted July 19, 2002 Sometimes it even depends on the bar itself, not the town. I'm in Chicago and used to go catch the PPVs at one of those faux irish bars in terrible trendy neighborhoods like the one I live in....anyway, the crowd of 30-50 who shows up are almost entirely comprised of casual smart marks, which makes it a fun experience, and makes bad matches more enjoyable for being bad. At Backlash, everyone in the bar was having a heart attack making fun of Hogan, which was priceless; for a moment, anyway, I thought there was hope in the universe. Alas, they're charging $10 now to watch, so I've switched to a suburban bar with free admission and cheap beer, though now I'm surrounded by people who show up specifically to cheer for Hogan. The bar, however, is pretty empty on PPV nights... As you said, though, it's worth going to just to talk to strangers and see what they think.
Guest PlatypusFool Report post Posted July 19, 2002 Damnit, I'd love to do that but I live in the UK where the time difference means PPV's are shown from 1AM to 4AM. I'd be surprised if I could find a sports bar open that late.
Guest Zack Malibu Report post Posted July 19, 2002 There's actually quite a few places in my area that do this. Some major spots like Hooters', etc. do it, but I also know that one of the nightclubs shows PPV's on a video wall (I heard the ad for King Of The Ring on the radio). I might go to one of these someday, but usually I either get the PPV at my house and have a party, or get it taped so I can watch it later.
Guest Singular Report post Posted July 19, 2002 The Hooter's here in Austin stopped doing wrestling PPV's a long time ago. The only place I know I can go to watch PPv's is a little hole in the wall redneck bar a couple blocks from my apartment. I think it's called Ragady Anne's. Guest bob_barron Report post Posted July 19, 2002 I watch the PPVs with friends who are smartish but are marks at heart. I remember Backlash we were stunned at how god awful Taker-Austin was
Guest AlwaysPissedOff Report post Posted July 19, 2002 I watch at Hooters down here in Dothan and am always surrounded by marks, although when I went ot Vengeance, I heard a couple of guys accross from my table(I was sitting with friends from work) talking about how Jericho had been held down and that he should win the title that night. Guest AM The Kid Report post Posted July 19, 2002 One thing i like about Canada. I'm underage yet can still go to a bar Whaaaa? I'm in Canada and I believe legally I can only go into a bar when I turn 18.
Guest Lord of The Curry Report post Posted July 19, 2002 I'm Canadian and I've been going into bars since I was 17. I turn 19 in a week and plan on hitting up some bars around here, as I know some show WWF PPVS and others just do RAW and Smackdown.
Guest JMTapes Report post Posted July 19, 2002 One thing i like about Canada. I'm underage yet can still go to a bar I was vacationing in Toronto this past week with my family, and on the night of the Home Run Derby, I went to a bar with my father to watch it seeing as my hotel didn't get ESPN. I'm 17, and they wouldn't allow me in. Also, I wasn't allowed into a resturaunt just because they had a bar. Fuckin' a.
Guest dreamer420 Report post Posted July 20, 2002 the age limit is different in parts of canada. in most of canada the legal age is 18 but in BC where i'm from it is 19. i got to see over the edge 1998 in a bar on ppv and i was only 17 at that time. i was tall enough I guess. the only other ppv i have seen in a bar was king of the ring 2000 and I got fucking tanked for that one. we also went out and hotboxed during the much anticipated crash holly/bull buchanen match. Guest thefrenchargel Report post Posted July 20, 2002 I watched WM X-7 in a BW3's down in Indy. Crowd was drunk and crazy. There were 3 bikers who stood during the entire HHH/UT match...TLC II got the most reactions though. Then they got ugly for the finish of Rock/Austin. Whole place totally was marking out. Guest Mr. Slim Citrus Report post Posted July 20, 2002 The only PPV I've ever gone to see in a bar was in 2000. I can't remember whether it was Judgement day, or Fully Loaded, but the main event was that 4-way for the title with Rock, Benoit, and two other bastards who I can't remember right now (I'm pretty sure one of them was Kane). The whole bar went crazy when Benoit had Rock in the Crossface for like a minute and a half; my friend and I thought for sure he was going to win it at that point... Guest bob_barron Report post Posted July 20, 2002 You saw Unforgiven 2000 with Benoit v. Rocky v. Taker v. Kane
Guest bob_barron Report post Posted July 20, 2002 In terms of crowd reaction at the PPVs I watch-I'd have to say Taker v. Flair got the biggest reaction from people. Everyone was pulling for Flair and going crazy for any one of his comebacks. I went absolutely apeshit and nearly had a heart attack when AA ran in and hit the spinebuster. For each month the most popular match- Backlash: RVD v. Eddy JD: Angle v. Edge/HIAC KOTR: Well no match- the Booker-Rock-Goldust skit kept us laughing so hard we missed most of the main event
Guest Incandenza Report post Posted July 21, 2002 For a short time last year, my school was showing the PPVs for free at the student union. I saw No Way Out and Wrestlemania X-7 there, but missed Backlash. I was in New York City during Judgement Day, but of me and my two friends that were there, I'm the only one who likes wrestling, so I didn't even bother suggesting checking out the PPV at WWF New York. Turns out the JD PPV was the last one my school showed; they stopped after that for whatever reason.
Guest jimmy no nose Report post Posted July 21, 2002 Round here you don't even have to be 21 to see it for free at either Hooters or some place called Dave and Busters that I've never been to.
Guest Nevermortal Report post Posted July 21, 2002 I know a friend who goes to the Friendly Tap for every WWE PPV. And no, the Acolytes don't beat him up in the midst of his viewing.

Guest O.J. Hart Report post Posted July 21, 2002 I saw Royal Rumble 2001 with some friends at Red Dog's in Belle Vernon, PA. They usually do have marks at those and it gets really annoying. It's pretty fun though because my friends and I just laugh at what they said because its that damn funny.
