Guest The Mighty Damaramu Posted July 19, 2002 Report Posted July 19, 2002 So what games have you played that were supposed to suck? Ones that people said looked unpromising and reviews tore it to shreds? All your friends told you to avoid it like the plague and if you see it kill it on sight? And then you play it and it totally rules. You think everybody is on crack because you're having a great time playing it. I can think of a recent example for me is Way of the Samurai. I heard it was horrible and I fell in love with it. I've been playing it non-stop since I rented it.
Guest What? Posted July 19, 2002 Report Posted July 19, 2002 I would have to say Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1. I read the reviews and all...I heard it was great...but after playing Street Sk8r, I hated all skateboarding games. But, I played it at my friends house as Jamie Thomas and it took up the rest of my night. Great game Also, The Simpsons: Road Rage. Being able to drive in Lil' Bandit was a dream come true.
Guest Big McLargeHuge Posted July 19, 2002 Report Posted July 19, 2002 Legends of Wrestling. Not the best wrestling game, by any means, but I was surprised it wasn't the heaping pile of steaming shit I thought it was gonna be.

Guest Will Scarlet Posted July 19, 2002 Report Posted July 19, 2002 Ephemeral Fantasia - it was BLASTED by the critics. The problem with the game was that it was too darn hard, as you either needed a walkthrough to do it, or pay very close attention to what is being said throughout the whole game. Most reviewers did not get how to get through the initial stages of the game, so they were like, "Screw this. This game sucks." I stuck with it, and was pleasantly surprised. I loved laughing at the reviews though because everyone said something like, "Well, I played it for an hour, and this game sucked." How am I supposed to be to a credibly believe a reviewer who plays a game for an hour, and so eloquently calls it, "Crap," and a "Final Fantasy 7 ripoff." I, at least, try to play a game halfway through before I can safely say the game sucked. That is what I did with the game Orphen, before I decided that this game had no redeeming value, and I could toss it aside. Though, maybe it was a good thing they did that. I remembered those reviews, and decided I would play Final Fantasy 7 all the way through before deciding I disliked it, as that is what most reviewers would suggest playing instead of Ephemeral Fantasia. I played it, and ended up disliking it anyway, but I also searched out Suikoden 2, which was another I had bought that I had never finished, and it became my favourite game after I played it all the way through. So, in a way, thanks to those bad reviews, I found Suikoden 2 which is the greatest roleplay game I have ever played, IMO. Thanks terrible, Thousand Arms - another game most reviewers disliked. I found it hilarious, and a good RPG spoof, so I loved it. I just wish I had not lost the game, as it was another game that became a favourite of mine, despite reviews.
